Volume 4 + Chapter 83: The Persecuted Joshua  

The doctor gazed at Xia Yi for quite some time, and the atmosphere in the air gradually grew somewhat peculiar.  

After a long silence, he raised his hand, removed his gas mask, and revealed his true face.  

Upon seeing the doctor’s face, both Xia Yi and Elly looked astonished.  

“No way?!”  

Elly jumped down from the bed, staring at the doctor’s face with disbelief.  

“No wonder Xia Lulu told me to come find you…!” Xia Yi seemed to understand something as well.  

Earlier, she had noticed that this doctor lacked a dragon tail, which led her to some speculations—for example, was the doctor from another race?  

It turned out this speculation was correct. The doctor’s appearance was completely unlike that of a dragon.  

His skin was excessively pale, giving off a somewhat sickly impression. His crimson eyes, shrouded in shadow, felt rather unsettling. And those extremely sharp teeth…  

All of this pointed in one direction.  

This doctor named Joshua was a Vampire!  

Precisely because he was a Vampire, he was dressed from head to toe—partly to conceal his non-dragon features, and partly to avoid sunlight.  

“Silver Dragon Princess, as you can see, I am indeed not a dragon. Joshua is indeed a name I once used,” Joshua admitted. “I am a Vampire from the Crimson Empire.”  

In the Dragon Kingdom, non-dragon races were still quite rare, largely because non-dragons held a very resistant attitude toward dragons.  

Similarly, dragons looked down upon non-dragon races, so naturally, they couldn’t get along harmoniously.  

Yet, judging by Joshua’s situation, he must have settled in the Far North Lands for a long time. How… was this possible?  

“It seems you’re puzzled about why I, clearly a Vampire, am staying in the Dragon Kingdom,” Joshua inquired.  

“Yes,” Xia Yi nodded.  

“Actually, the Silver Dragon Queen, Xia Lulu, is aware of this matter. It’s even due to her tacit permission that I am allowed to remain in the Dragon Kingdom, which is why the dragons haven’t expelled me.”  

“Xia Lulu?”  

“I was once a Vampire noble with an extraordinary bloodline. However, due to persecution by the Vampire King, Herman, I fled the Crimson Empire. I was constantly pursued along the way, even driven into a desperate situation. In my urgency, I made an extremely bold move.”  

“Could it be… entering the Dragon Kingdom?”  

“Yes. No matter how powerful the Vampires are, they cannot easily enter the Dragon Kingdom, as your dragon race is the strongest superior species on this land,” Joshua paused. “After entering the Dragon Kingdom, the Vampires pursuing me were all expelled by the dragons, and I was captured by the dragons as well. I was brought before Xia Lulu.”  

“What method did you use to make Xia Lulu spare you?”  

“Actually, I didn’t use any method. At the time, I was already in despair. I simply told Xia Lulu the truth and left my fate to heaven. As a result, she didn’t kill me. Instead, she allowed me to stay in the Dragon Kingdom. I wanted to find a remote area to hide, so I came to the Far North Lands. Since I had nothing else to do, I became a doctor, established the Northern Clinic, and after practicing medicine for a long time, incidentally took on an apprentice—Sheryl.”  

Joshua narrowed his eyes.  

“However, I don’t know why you have come to find me.”  

Xia Yi recalled the matter with Elizabeth and couldn’t help feeling a surge of anger. “Joshua, I came to seek your help. I want to defeat the Vampire Ancestor. Xia Lulu told me to come to the Far North Lands to find you—you understand the Vampires well and can provide me with assistance.”  

“The Vampire Ancestor…?!”  

Upon hearing this name, Joshua clearly appeared shaken, even revealing a hint of fear in his eyes.  

“Yes, Herman used the Progenitor’s Blood to transform the Vampire Princess—Miu Miu Borgia—making her a temporary vessel for the descent of the Vampire Ancestor!” Xia Yi clenched her small fists. “The Vampire Ancestor is too bullying and even declared she would attack the dragons. I must take her down!”  

Although Xia Yi’s explanation was quite general, Joshua immediately understood what had happened upon hearing it.  

That’s because he was aware of the specific details regarding the vessel plan involving Miu Miu.  

“No, Silver Dragon Princess, I will not help you. I do not wish to get involved in this matter. You may not know, but the reason I fled the Crimson Empire was precisely because of this plan of Herman’s. He knew that my ancestry included royal bloodlines and wanted me, like him, to continuously reproduce for his plan, creating suitable vessels. He simply wanted to use me as a tool, even intending to control me with forbidden blood magic!”  

Joshua’s emotions were very agitated.  

“Even if Xia Lulu came herself, it would be useless. I will not yield to power! I wanted to escape this fate from the very beginning. The noble Vampire blood I carry brought me no benefits, instead, it caused the ruin of my family. I finally managed to escape, and now you want me to return?”  

Joshua questioned Xia Yi.  

His past was a disaster brought about by his own bloodline.  

“Why can’t I just stay in the Far North Lands and peacefully be a doctor?”  

“This…”  

Xia Yi couldn’t refute Joshua.  

If his desire was to stay away from Vampire affairs, then such a response was indeed understandable.  

“Silver Dragon Princess, telling you this much is already my limit. You should rest well.”  

Joshua put his mask back on, as if wanting to escape his identity, and prepared to leave the room.  

“Joshua, I can understand you, but the strength of the Vampire Ancestor is not something the current era’s powerhouses can contend with. She will surely wage war, and the Dragon Kingdom cannot avoid it either,” Xia Yi reminded him. “At that time, even the Far North Lands will no longer be a safe place beyond the Vampires’ reach.”  

“…”  

Joshua stopped in his tracks.  

He was aware of these matters as well. Recently, he had been having many strange dreams. In these dreams, a Vampire Ancestor who closely resembled Miu Miu wanted to collect all nine scattered bloodlines, seize them, and use them to repair her own body.  

As a bearer of one of the nine royal bloodlines, Joshua could sense this—it was a resonance of the bloodline.  

He could even foresee the Vampire Ancestor launching a war, invading the Dragon Kingdom, coming to the Far North Lands, and finding him.  

There was no escape. Just as he could faintly sense the Vampire Ancestor, she too could sense where he was.  

“I’m sorry.”  

Yet, in the end, Joshua said nothing more and left the room.  

“Your Highness, he still refuses to help us,” Elly said disappointedly. “He seems dead set on not getting involved in these matters.”  

Xia Yi was also disheartened. Without Joshua’s cooperation, once the Vampire Ancestor fully recovered, she would truly be invincible.  

What should be done? How could they possibly make Joshua change his mind…
