Xu Xinghe cleared her throat ans pressed her finger on the little black cloud. “Hello?”
A gentle and beautiful female voice suddenly rang out. Xie Chenyuan’s body went stiff. He scanned his bedchamber with a confused look, trying to locate the source of the voice.
Xu Xinghe couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. His expression was so blank. He even picked up a pillow to check underneath it.
“I’m in your hands,” Xu Xinghe said, her voice carrying a smile.
Xie Chenyuan’s head snapped towards the painting of the fairy ascending. It was her speaking? She was actually alive.
Xie Chenyuan couldn’t help but feel nervous, his voice trembling slightly as he spoke. “Are you a fairy?”
Xu Xinghe thought about it. Legend had it that this painting was made by a deity who once ascended to immortality. The painting depicted his wife. The man had ascended to the heavenly realm, but his wife could only remain in the mortal world.
The deity missed his wife in the mortal world and had painted this picture of a fairy ascending to the heavens.
The residual immortal power on the painting formed her, so she could probably be considered a fairy, right?
“Hmm, I am Xu Xinghe. What’s your name?”
Xie Chenyuan had never been so nervous in his life like now. She said her name was Xu Xinghe. Such a beautiful name. And she even asked for his name?
Xie Chenyuan’s palms were sweating from nervousness. He replied in a low voice, “Xie Chenyuan.”
Seeing this, Xu Xinghe wished she could fly out and give him a big hug, but unfortunately she couldn’t just yet. Yao Yao told her that she would have to wait seven days before she could leave.
“Ah Yuan~ Can I call you that?” Xu Xinghe’s voice was soft. She had a sly smile on her face.
Xie Chenyuan’s heartbeat skipped a beat. He turned his head slightly to the side, afraid that his excited expression would scare her. His fingernails unconsciously dug into his sleeve.
His voice carried a hint of indulgence as he said, “As you wish.”
His gaze was firmly locked onto the figure in the painting as he asked tentatively, “Then I’ll call you Xing’er, alright?”
Xu Xinghe naturally agreed.
After chatting for a while, Xu Xinghe began to feel sleepy. She said goodnight to Xie Chenyuan and slept soundly inside the painting.
Xie Chenyuan’s eyes were dark. He had never hated his own poor way with words more than he did at this moment. He couldn’t win the fairy’s favor.
He hid the painting in a secret room behind the wall. After making sure everything was secure, he walked out. Eunuch Li immediately greeted him eagerly. “Your Majesty, what are your orders?”
Xie Chenyuan furrowed his brow slightly. He glanced at Eunuch Li and asked, “What do women like?”
Eunuch Li was greatly shocked inside. Could it be that the harem was finally about to gain its first occupant!
Eunuch Li bent over and said, “Your Majesty, women’s preferences are different. Some like gold, silver, and jewels. Others like music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. If you wish to give a woman a gift, it is best to ask her directly.”
Eunuch Li offered this thoughtful advice. When he quietly looked up, he saw His Majesty wearing a thoughtful expression. He immediately confirmed his suspicion.
“Every single thing you just mentioned. Send it all to my chamber.” Xie Chenyuan couldn’t decide what Xing’er might like right away, so with a wave of his hand, he ordered everything to be brought so Xing’er could take her time choosing.
Eunuch Li was shocked. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. “Yes, Your Majesty.” But in his heart, he began to wonder who could make His Majesty care so much.
Eunuch Li was determined to be the first to latch onto that person’s coattails. He wanted to live out his old age in peace, and being by His Majesty’s side was far too dangerous…
…
Song Qinghuan and Ma Er settled in a village. Their home was a small thatched house. Song Qinghuan couldn’t help feeling a bit disdainful.
She had never lived in a thatched house before. Even as an illegitimate daughter in the Song family, her food and housing hadn’t been bad. And later, in the palace, anything she wanted to eat would appear before her in no time.
Ma Er held Song Qinghuan’s hand, his eyes full of deep affection. “Qing’er, we will live a good life soon.”
Song Qinghuan’s eyes immediately welled up with tears. As long as she had Ma Er, no amount of hardship or exhaustion mattered! Their love was priceless!
