Chapter 515
by 林方方Chapter 515 Hunter of the Deep!
Su Rui plunged into the water, circled around Hathaway, and with a flick of his wrist, a dagger was already gripped in his palm!
He pressed his fingers against the front of the blade, and the length of the knife instantly doubled!
His eyes were filled with an endless cold gleam!
A rocket attack! The fact that someone could openly use such a weapon was more than enough to show how terrifyingly capable the other side was!
They were probably about ten kilometers from the shoreline right now, and the commotion out here would be hard for anyone on shore to notice!
If… if the guys in the distance fired a few more rockets, Su Rui and the others would likely have no chance of escaping!
Su Rui leaned against the wreckage of the speedboat, his head just above the surface, eyes narrowed, staring in the direction the rocket had come from!
By his estimation, the other party shouldn’t be too far from where he was!
Su Rui’s right hand swept past his ankle, and when it emerged from the water again, a compact handgun had appeared in it!
Sure enough, he could already see a speedboat racing toward them!
A group of people in black wetsuits stood on the boat, each holding a short blade that gleamed and caught the eye!
The most attention-grabbing of all was a short man in the center carrying a rocket launcher — the thing was nearly as tall as he was!
“Under my attack, there’s no way he could have dodged it, but orders from above say we need proof either way — alive or dead. Everyone get in and search!” The short man stared coldly at the speedboat that had been blown into a heap of scrap, his voice ice-cold!
His eyes radiated boundless confidence, yet the words coming out of his mouth were in the most authentic Japanese!
Japanese!
“Yes!”
The black-clad figures around him responded in unison and flipped into the water!
At this moment, Su Rui had already pulled Hathaway behind the wreckage of the hull to hide — it was the only cover available, and under these circumstances, they had no choice but to ignore the risk of a second explosion!
The short man set down the rocket launcher and picked up a submachine gun instead, standing on the drifting speedboat, eyes fixed on the water nearby, fully on guard.
Although the speedboat rocked with the waves, his feet seemed rooted to the deck, standing perfectly steady!
The youngest son of Yamamoto Taichiro, the boss of the Yamamoto group, Yamamoto Gokusen had gone missing in China, and orders had come down from above — find him alive or find his body, and if no definitive news could be found, then all of them would stay in China and be buried with the young master!
Su Rui lay in wait on one side of the speedboat, gently patting Hathaway’s body to signal her not to move.
She nodded. She was a woman who had weathered storms before, with nerves of steel. Though she had been a little flustered at first, she had now fully composed herself. Having witnessed Su Rui’s skills, she wasn’t too panicked anymore.
After reassuring Hathaway, Su Rui narrowed his eyes and glanced at the black figures that had already submerged, then looked at the short man standing on the speedboat with his submachine gun, a look of contempt crossing his face: “Not even as tall as a rocket launcher, and you still have the nerve to show your face out here. The Yamamoto group never changes.”
He shook his head and said, “Fine. If I don’t beat the fear into you, you’ll never give up.”
With that, he sank silently into the water without so much as a single bubble rising to the surface.
The two sides were roughly a hundred meters apart, and that group of Japanese warriors, highly skilled in the water, moved through it at tremendous speed, like a school of black fish!
The warrior swimming at the front was named Suzuki Takayuki. He was the best swimmer among them, and having been entrusted with such an important task, he was naturally eager to distinguish himself.
In truth, as far as they were concerned, after that rocket hit the speedboat, the people on board had virtually no chance of survival. This dive was probably going to amount to nothing more than a formality.
Sure, they had heard beforehand that Su Rui was formidable, but how could any human body of flesh and blood stand up against modern high-tech weaponry?
Suzuki Takayuki scanned the water ahead carefully, when he suddenly felt a chill at his throat!
It felt as though his neck had been sliced open — cool seawater rushed instantly into the wound! Vast amounts of blood were already gushing out, staining everything below him red!
The blood clouded the water and made Su Rui’s figure nearly invisible!
Suzuki Takayuki instinctively clutched his throat and tried to cry out, but when he opened his mouth, he found he couldn’t make a sound!
Torrents of seawater flooded into his esophagus and trachea, and Suzuki felt as though his chest and lungs were about to burst!
He simply couldn’t believe it — from the moment they entered the water until now, he had seen absolutely no sign of any enemy on the surface. Could it be that the enemy had been swimming underwater the entire time across nearly a hundred meters? Without even needing to surface for air?
But the rapid draining of his life left Suzuki Takayuki little time to think about the reasons. His whole body was giving out, blood loss was severe, and he couldn’t even lift his eyelids to track where Su Rui had gone!
After struggling for a few moments, he drifted quietly in the water, completely incapable of swimming any further.
Su Rui struck and vanished immediately!
Because Suzuki Takayuki had been swimming so far ahead, it was only now that the people behind him noticed something was wrong!
“What’s going on?”
A few of them exchanged quick glances, then warily picked up their pace. In a situation like this, there was absolutely no room for error!
But just then, the person swimming at the very back suddenly felt a faint, almost imperceptible disturbance in the water behind him!
The disturbance was so subtle that he didn’t pay it any mind!
Yet a dagger seemed to reach out from nowhere, sweeping past the lower right side of his back!
Against that razor-sharp blade, his wetsuit was as good as nothing — it was not only sliced open with ease, but the knife cut deep into his kidney as cleanly as slicing through tofu!
All of this happened without a sound!
With every swimming motion he made, blood surged wildly from the kidney wound as his muscles contracted and stretched!
By the time the pain registered, the water around him had already turned red!
In underwater combat, there are only two points of attack that are truly effective for killing an enemy!
One is the throat, and the other is the kidney!
The logic behind slashing the throat is simple — sever the airway, making it impossible to breathe. The kidney is even softer than the throat, with no bone to block the way. Once it is cut open, every swimming motion causes the muscles to contract, and blood will pour out continuously. Every time the person struggles, the bleeding won’t stop — until death!
It’s a simple principle, and the most effective killing technique there is!
Don’t ever believe the idea of driving a dagger into someone’s heart. If you do that, even a razor-sharp blade may get caught on the sternum after entering the chest cavity — stuck and impossible to pull out — resulting in nothing more than a surface wound that won’t be fatal at all!
And doing so puts you in close range of the enemy’s attack, greatly increasing your own risk!
When the blood turned the seawater red, Su Rui’s body vanished once again!
Soon, the person in the second-to-last position noticed something was wrong. He turned to check, only to see a figure suddenly plunge down from above like an arrow cutting through the water — the dagger drove into the throat, in and out in an instant, casually claiming a life!
That move seemed to make a bit of a commotion, and the four remaining people ahead all turned around at once!
But in the very moment they turned, a spray of blood exploded from the back of the fourth person’s head!
The compact handgun in Su Rui’s left hand had already been shoved into the other person’s throat!
This was not an underwater assault rifle. While it had some degree of waterproofing, its effective range underwater was limited — but for the purpose of jamming it into someone’s throat and blowing their head apart at point-blank range, it was more than capable!
In just two short minutes, four of the seven were gone!
At this point, two of them tried to flank Su Rui from the sides, while the third prepared to surface and signal for help!
They had already realized that if their leader didn’t come down, the three of them might not be a match for Su Rui!
Su Rui held his breath, swung his arm wide, and a dark streak shot from his hand!
Even underwater, the speed of that dark streak seemed completely undiminished — it drove straight through the throat of the man heading for the surface!
Blood spilled out, and the man instinctively dropped his dagger, clutching his bayonet-pierced neck in disbelief, opened his mouth, and a stream of bubbles rose toward the surface!
Su Rui could stop the man from rising, but he couldn’t stop those bubbles!
He shook both arms, kicked his legs hard, swept the dagger left and right, and broke through the encirclement of the two men — five meters, covered in almost an instant!
He grabbed the handle of the four-edged bayonet, and Su Rui’s foot slammed hard into the man’s chest!
A large section of the ribcage caved in, and with his throat already pierced, this Japanese warrior had no chance of surviving!
After killing the man and pulling out the bayonet, Su Rui didn’t spare another glance at the two close behind him — not even stopping to breathe — and dove deeper again!
His descent was even faster than before!
The two men watched, their eyes filled with deep disbelief!
Su Rui had no need to breathe, but they had already been holding their breath to the absolute limit! Their lungs felt ready to burst! They had no choice but to abandon their target and surface for air!
The short man stood on the nearby speedboat with his submachine gun, his eyes sharp — that long trail of bubbles had not escaped his notice!
“Not good!”
At the sight of it, he felt a deep sense of dread!
They had been underwater for so long — by all rights, no one should still be down there without surfacing for air. What was going on?
The short man kept his eyes fixed on the water. He trusted his own eyes, and he had seen absolutely no trace of the enemy!
Could it be that this unfathomably dangerous enemy had never been blown up at all, and had simply been lurking in the water the whole time, waiting for them to come?
An underwater predator?
What kind of enormous, terrifying lung capacity would it take to pull off something like that?
The short man’s eyes blazed with intense, dangerous light, because he could see patches of red spreading across the surface of the water!
Without a moment’s hesitation, he aimed at that patch of red and squeezed the trigger of his submachine gun!
