Chapter 47: The Culprit
by WuWangChapter 47: The Culprit
Several minutes earlier.
Walking on the street, Louis looked at the map in his hand, at the red, yellow, and green areas he had marked, and headed towards the green area.
This map was specially drawn by Louis based on the reports from those spies.
Through the spies, Louis could know where the famous people of Blackhorn Alley usually hung out. These areas were marked by him as red danger zones, which he normally avoided completely.
At that moment, a group of passersby had just turned the corner. Looking up and seeing a person without a face standing in the middle of the street, they screamed like they had seen a ghost and ran away. In the blink of an eye, the street was empty.
[The wizards of Blackhorn Alley discovered that Blackhorn Alley was becoming more and more dangerous…]
“The public security lately does seem a bit bad, doesn’t it?” Louis shook his head, thinking he should work harder.
He heard that recently, several factions in Blackhorn Alley had joined forces, forming some kind of alliance, and were searching for a serial criminal, apparently to improve the security of Blackhorn Alley.
He didn’t know if they had caught that evildoer, but Louis felt he had helped them a lot with this matter — regarding this, Stuart insisted that Louis was that criminal.
What a joke, he was clearly a great hero who punished the wicked and eliminated evil.
Stuart questioned Louis’s words. To convince his boss, Stuart even provided a list, saying if Louis didn’t believe him, he should go ask these people.
So, a while ago, aside from the tutoring Ocris gave him, Louis made a special trip to visit each of these people one by one, and casually asked them who had the talent for Apparition — the thing about waking up under the bed was something he learned from their mouths.
At first, these people were quite tough, even boasting their family names — each claimed to be the leader of some faction.
Gray Gloves Igner, The Immortal Jason, Voodoo Gang Ross, The Undead One… they all sounded impressive, and their words were quite fierce — what did they say? They said since the Faceless One had come to their door today, don’t blame them for being rude.
But after Louis finished talking with them, they all changed their tune, saying they weren’t wizards, but carpenters, blacksmiths, stonemasons, farmers, fishermen, hunters…
Clearly, they were lying too.
Because they were all serial criminals.
Sure enough, after all these people were arrested, that alliance in Blackhorn Alley disbanded.
That day, Louis smiled at Stuart.
Still saying the trouble in Blackhorn Alley was caused by me?
Still saying I’m the serial criminal?
After these people were caught, that alliance disbanded. Who the real serial criminal was, isn’t it obvious?
Since then, Stuart never mentioned the criminal matter again.
However, after that, Louis did not stop searching for criminals, because he believed the security in Blackhorn Alley was still not fixed, so there must still be criminals out there.
One thing also proved Louis’s suspicion — recently, he heard that a bunch of impressive ‘wizards’ had come to Blackhorn Alley from the Muggle World. Rumors said they all knew ‘forbidden magic spells that no one else understood and could destroy the world’. Each was swaggering around Blackhorn Alley, and no one wanted to mess with (or even acknowledge) them.
And whenever they stopped someone on the street, they grabbed them and asked who was a wizard. Not only would they lecture people about their newly discovered great theories, but they also looked down on those who couldn’t understand their ideas — so they looked down on everyone.
And they believed Blackhorn Alley might not have any wizards at all — how could wizards dress like common folk?
This puzzled Louis, because every resident of Blackhorn Alley was a wizard — unless those impressive wizards, like himself, also thought the wizards of Blackhorn Alley weren’t worthy of being called wizards.
They seemed really powerful indeed.
Louis planned to talk with them. After all, both he and these strange wizards were looking for that criminal. So maybe they could cooperate.
He heard these strange wizards often hung out in the danger zones, so Louis visited a danger zone today. However, he didn’t see any of them.
At that moment, a group of weirdly dressed Wild Wizards excitedly ran over from the distance. They kept throwing Magic Powder at Louis while randomly chanting Magic Spells that no one could understand.
Louis frowned. He waved his sleeve towards the group on the street and used two spells: “Gentle Breeze on the Face” and “Quickly Refill”.
A violent tornado flew out from Louis’s sleeve. The sky suddenly grew stormy with wind and clouds, lightning flashed and thunder rumbled. In an instant, the people in front were all blown into the sky by the tornado. Then, a massive water dragon poured down from the heavens. The entire street was flooded in the blink of an eye. The 16 Wild Wizards and 138 passerby wizards on the street were partly blown into the sky and partly washed out to sea by the flood.

“Ah, the security on this street has finally improved quite a bit. But it’s also strange, why isn’t there a single Dark Wizard in this danger zone?”
Louis shook his head, feeling puzzled, and decided to leave. He took a step forward, then instantly traversed several blocks in the higher dimension, arriving at a safe zone.
Oddly enough, lately, there were more and more Dark Wizards in the safe zones.
These Dark Wizards often disguised themselves as ordinary people, but with the Storybook, Louis could recognize them no matter how they dressed.
Caught every single time.
The most interesting thing was, these guys really liked to set up magic arrays in their residences and the nearby streets. They all thought these arrays would make their temporary hideouts more secret. But in the higher dimension, places with magic arrays were incredibly conspicuous. So whenever Louis saw such an alley, he would go in.
Caught every single time.
Sometimes, some magic arrays were particularly interesting, and Louis would make a special trip to check them out.
On the street before him now, there was a very conspicuous and interesting ‘trap’ that had turned the nearby streets into an Inner World, tucked inside a Magician’s Box.
And in the middle of the street, a magician character was looking at a Magician’s Box in front of him — it seemed this trap was his doing. Because this fat guy seemed to have hidden himself within the higher dimension.
Louis was seeing someone who knew this trick for the first time!
He became interested. To enter the trap, Louis projected his own projection into the Inner World, placing it inside that magician’s box.
Then, to get close to this fat guy existing in the higher dimension, Louis’s own physical body entered the higher dimension and walked over.
At that moment, the magician was sticking his big fat face into the Magician’s Box, carefully and very focusedly looking at something. Curious, Louis walked over with his hands behind his back, stood next to him, and looked. He found that the box and the outside world formed a ‘spatial nesting doll’.
Louis’s projection looked up and saw the sky. A big fat face was there, looking down and smiling at Louis’s projection.
Louis’s physical body turned its head and looked at the fat guy beside him. But the fat guy didn’t seem to see the physical Louis beside him in the higher dimension, yet he could see the projected Louis in the Inner World through the box.
“Interesting!” Louis became intrigued. “You must be the rumored wizard who came here from the Muggle World, right? Quite skilled, but you don’t seem to fully understand the thing you’ve created. This is like walking blindly in the higher dimension; it’s easy to run into problems.”
The Magician suddenly looked around as if he had seen a ghost, but ignored the physical Louis right beside him.
This box was a silent Secret Realm formed by many Crystal Arrays!
No sound could come from inside, because the inside and outside of the box were two separate worlds!
A moment later, he realized something.
Indeed, there was one possibility: Dreams could cross worlds.
The Magician’s expression grew a bit more serious. He had carelessly had his mind invaded. He sneered at the projected Louis in the box, “Rumors say you can invade dreams. It seems you’ve played this little trick well, but mental magic doesn’t mean much to me. Hmph.”
“Alright.” Louis looked at the fat guy beside him, understanding that in this spatial nesting doll environment, the fat guy was blind. So he shook his head and said with some admiration, “It’s quite surprising. I never thought someone could create such a spell without understanding anything — you really are a very talented genius.”
“Magic? No, no, no. This is just a small trick, sir.” Harold took a silk handkerchief from his coat pocket, wiped his hands, then calmly put on his gloves.
Then, he took off his top hat and gave a slight bow, a noble gesture towards the Magician’s Box. “Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Harold. I am a Magician. I know you have been looking for me for a long time…”
After hearing the fat man’s words, Louis was speechless.
Why did every Dark Wizard he met lately say he was targeting them?
He clearly never went to those areas where famous people hung out, yet every time he caught someone, Stuart said they were famous — and even said, while Louis never went to the danger zones, these wizards had specifically fled from the danger zones to the newbie zones.
What did they flee here for? To get caught by me on purpose? Louis couldn’t quite understand.
What confused Louis even more was that after catching them, these people also said he was deliberately targeting them.
Weren’t you the ones who came here on purpose? I just catch people randomly! I never targeted anyone!
This one before him was even more interesting. He said this:
“You came after all — Miss Yingling indeed did not lie to me.” As he spoke, Harold looked at a small cage beside him. The cage was only palm-sized, but it contained a person the size of a thumb.
“It seems she didn’t lie. You are indeed her guardian, who would come to save her no matter what.”
Louis: “???”
Yingling cried her eyes out: “Lord Harold, I really don’t know him, please believe me, all those things I said were made up… I really have no connection with him… Sob sob…”
Louis looked at that Yingling, a doubt rising in his heart — could it be that all these strange things happening to him lately were because of this little vixen?
It seemed he had found the culprit who had been stirring up trouble behind the scenes. But he’d ask her later. It looked like this Magician’s Box, and this wizard’s Magic, were both quite interesting.
“Come on, Mr. Harold. Hurry up and let me see some real Magic. I can hardly wait.”
Hearing this, Yingling felt dizzy — this Faceless One, did he not know his situation? He was about to die, yet he was still provoking Lord Harold!
Sure enough, Harold threw away the handkerchief and laughed coldly. “No need to rush. You’ll see it.”
With that, Harold waved his Wand at the Magician’s Box. Louis, standing beside Harold, raised an eyebrow, interested. With his hands behind his back, he bent over and watched Harold’s magic performance with great interest.
