Chapter 759
by post_apiChapter 759: The Kirin Tor Investigation
Jesse got the Summon Netherwalker spell from Zardeth and kept the scroll in a box. It was one of the spell scrolls he planned to take back to the Mage Tower.
Later, if he had to summon Kallez from the Storm Altar to the Mage Tower but lacked energy, this Summon Netherwalker magic would be key.
He thought back to the basement, where Zardeth used fel fire to destroy the evil in the fragments. He realized his fire magic hadn’t improved for a long time.
He felt ashamed that he couldn’t even master the Fire Protection Barrier spell from the book "The First Flame" that Master Malin gave him. No matter how hard he tried, he never did it perfectly.
In fact, after Alexstrasza hugged him and blessed him with the Life-Bound essence, Jesse noticed that casting the Mage Armor spell felt harder than before.
Of course, he knew this spell well. He had cast it many times in dangers over the past two years. He was sure that if he got as good at the Fire Protection Barrier, he would succeed. So the slight roughness only bothered him a little and didn’t stop him from finishing spells.
The feeling was this: using Arcane energy to call fire elementals for protection became much tougher. The fire elementals got wilder and hotter as they got close to him.
But the Red Dragon Queen had clearly warned him to be careful with fire magic from now on. That meant his bond with fire elementals was stronger. So why was casting fire spells harder?
He should ask Malin again. Even though he failed with the Fire Protection Barrier, he couldn’t be proud now.
The next morning, Jesse took "The First Flame" to Malin’s study. He knocked, opened the door, and saw a young apprentice standing next to Malin, looking his way.
Jesse suddenly remembered that the Wizard’s Sanctum had reopened, and his teacher had students to teach. He had walked in without asking first.
“Sorry, Master.”
Jesse lowered his head and turned to leave. Then he heard the apprentice’s voice clearly through the door: “That’s Master Jesse Seso! The Jesse Seso who killed the demon king at Nethergarde!”
Malin murmured something Jesse couldn’t catch. After Malin spoke, the apprentice’s voice got softer but still sounded excited.
A moment later, the apprentice rushed out. He looked at Jesse eagerly and said, “I’m so glad you’re alive, Master Jesse Seso! Many people lie about you, saying you used Black Magic to kill the demon king Azgath. That’s just jealous gossip. I won’t interrupt your talk with the archmage. Honored to meet you, Master.”
Jesse stepped inside. Malin gave him a complicated look, and Jesse felt mixed as he shut the door.
“Maybe I should just tell him I did kill that demon using Black Magic,” Jesse said.
“He might not believe you’re the real Jesse Seso then,” Malin replied, leaning back in his chair. “Sit down.”
Jesse nodded helplessly and sat in a nearby chair.
“I have big news for you,” Malin said, pulling a paper from his drawer. “Do you know about the Blackrock Spire mission? A Kirin Tor Mage went to Blackrock Spire and rescued Master Krasus of the Kirin Tor Council from the black dragons. Red Dragons helped too.”
“I heard about it,” Jesse said.
“Of course,” Malin said. “It made waves in Dalaran, and word spread fast to Lordaeron and Stormwind. Dalaran loves to brag about a real Kirin Tor mage.”
“This seems unrelated to me,” Jesse said.
“It does involve you,” Malin said, flipping the page. “Master Krasus has proof of dealings between the Kirin Tor and Lord Dalaran Prestor. His escape from the orcs and black dragons exposed traitors in the Kirin Tor. Now, Kel’Thuzad is under heavy investigation. It’s already started. I’ll send a document with Master Andromath to the Kirin Tor, showing that the report on the Eye of Dalaran theft doesn’t match your story. Kel’Thuzad wrote that report for the Alliance. We’ll send it north by magic, and you might have to go to Dalaran to testify.”
“I’m okay with that,” Jesse said.
“Then I’ll tell Andromath,” Malin sighed. “This is the first time a Council member’s been in trouble since the Kirin Tor began. I don’t like them, but I can’t gloat. Who knows what the black dragons offered to turn such a high mage? It might be scarier than we think. But nothing’s certain yet. Just guessing, Mr. Seso.”
He glanced at Jesse and said, “You’re not shocked. You met Kel’Thuzad when you went to Dalaran with Master Duchamp, didn’t you? He liked you.”
“With only six on the Kirin Tor Council, I’d expect anyone, Master,” Jesse replied.
“Indeed,” Malin agreed.
Actually, Jesse was surprised that Kirin Tor and Antonidas caught on to Kel’Thuzad so fast. It was a good surprise in the mess.
Thinking back, Antonidas’s coldness wasn’t about protecting each other, as Greed thought. It was more like disappointment.
As Kirin Tor leader and Dalaran master, he probably knew Kel’Thuzad was shady. Having an outsider like Jesse hint at it might have hurt Antonidas’s pride.
But it also proved his fears, so he struggled to believe his friend and student Kel’Thuzad betrayed him.
Of course, Jesse couldn’t guess the old archmage’s thoughts. What mattered was that Antonidas was investigating Kel’Thuzad, and Jesse might join in.
“By the way, what did you come to see me about?” Malin asked.
