Chapter 963: Cangyue Mercenary Group!
Su Yi’s attention was particularly drawn to a group of young disciples, notably the formidable beast known as the Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger, a third-grade Demonic Void Realm creature. Anyone with such a powerful mount must possess an extraordinary background.
“Roar…”
A commotion erupted as dust clouds swirled in the air, and the wind howled around them. A group of demon-beast riders departed in a grand, arrogant fashion, completely disregarding anyone in their path.
“They belong to the Seven Star Sword Sect!”
“They must be the younger generation returning from training in the mountains. They’re so full of themselves!”
“They’re incredibly arrogant! The Seven Star Sword Sect truly has no shame!”
“Who cares about their arrogance? They are from the Seven Star Sword Sect. These young people are not only prominent within the sect but also hold significant positions. They’re highly valued by the Seven Star Sword Sect!”
“Moreover, that Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger was already in the Demonic Void Realm. It’s said that it’s the mount of Ran Jianxuan, the Sect Master of the Seven Star Sword Sect. Since it wasn’t Ran Jianxuan riding it, the person must be his son, Ran Yan, the Young Sect Leader!”
“Now it makes sense why that terrifying creature seems so powerful—it’s from the Demonic Void Realm!”
As the people around talked, their expressions were filled with mixed emotions. The young disciples left in a confident, proud manner, and no one dared to challenge them.
“Who are those people tied up at the back? They look pitiful. I wonder who angered the Seven Star Sword Sect; surely they have a deep grudge?”
Someone asked, observing the prisoners. Their miserable state hinted at a serious vendetta.
“Keep your voice down. There’s a demon beast from the Demonic Void Realm nearby. Be careful, don’t let them hear you.”
One person whispered back, speaking quietly, “Those people are from the Cangyue Mercenary Group. I heard that they did something to upset the Seven Star Sword Sect. The Seven Star Sword Sect’s powerful experts wiped out their entire group. These remaining ones seem to be the strongest among them. They’re probably left behind to intimidate other forces.”
“The Cangyue Mercenary Group… they’re quite powerful!”
“I’ve heard of the Cangyue Mercenary Group; they have a good reputation. How could they have angered the Seven Star Sword Sect?”
“Who knows?”
“…”
Su Yi could hear every word, even the slightest whispers. But none of this concerned him, and he had no intention of getting involved.
The city before him was grander than he had imagined. The massive city walls snaked like a dragon, with towering walls reaching tens of zhang high. The city gate was wide enough to allow massive beasts to pass through, and the words “Sword Star City” were engraved into the stone above.
As Su Yi approached, he noticed a crowd gathered at the city gate, seemingly blocked from entry.
A colossal tiger stood in midair, exuding an overwhelming presence. Its eyes glowed with a chilling blood-red light, sending shivers through anyone who dared look directly at it.
Several demon beasts, resembling wolves and horses, formed a tight formation outside the gate. The young disciples of the Seven Star Sword Sect were confident, their eyes sharp and filled with authority.
There were twelve people in total, each hanging from the city walls on either side of the gate. Their bodies were stained with blood, which dripped down the walls, creating a somber atmosphere.
These individuals, once disheveled, now had their hair pulled back deliberately, revealing their bloodied faces. They appeared to be in their thirties or forties, with their qi suppressed and showing signs of heavy injuries. Some had their tendons snapped, making them appear utterly helpless.
Among them, a slender figure that had been dragged behind the Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger now hung in the most visible spot beside the gate. Her disheveled hair had been pushed aside, revealing her face.
This woman appeared to be in her thirties. Though her complexion was pale, a dark red birthmark covered half her forehead. Without it, her delicate features would have made her a beauty.
Her face was smeared with blood. Her dark gray tunic clung to her body, but it had been torn. Her exposed thighs, slender waist, and other parts of her body, stained with blood, added a striking beauty that left a strong visual impact.
“That’s someone from the Cangyue Mercenary Group!”
“It’s Nangong Ningyue from the Cangyue Mercenary Group!”
The crowd murmured, their expressions changing drastically. Many cast heated, lingering glances at her exposed figure, which stirred intense feelings. However, when they noticed the birthmark on her forehead, their expressions faltered with regret.
Everyone present was no stranger to danger and battle, and they knew enough about women. Had it not been for that noticeable birthmark, Nangong Ningyue would have been irresistible to many of them.
“Listen up, everyone! If you provoke the Seven Star Sword Sect, this is what happens to the Cangyue Mercenary Group!”
A voice filled with energy rang out from the young man standing tall above the Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger.
“Yuan True Realm, eighth level!”
Su Yi was a bit surprised as he studied the young man. He appeared to be of a similar age to Young Master Wang from the Green Dark Sect, but his cultivation was stronger, and he exuded remarkable talent.
Once the young man finished speaking, he stood proudly on top of the Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger, gazing at Nangong Ningyue on the city wall. His eyes wandered over her form, his passion clear, though he was slightly disappointed that he couldn’t gaze directly at the birthmark. Otherwise, he would have enjoyed tormenting her, making the experience all the more memorable.
“Roar!”
The Aoka Split Heavenly Tiger let out a roar, carrying the young man as it turned and entered the city, followed by the disciples of the Seven Star Sword Sect.
As the Seven Star Sword Sect members left, the onlookers around breathed a collective sigh of relief.
“Whoosh, whoosh…”
Outside the city gates, people heard distant roars. Immediately, several figures emerged from the crowd and joined in to observe the commotion.
Suddenly, the area outside the city gate was filled with flickering figures, the crowd swelling to a dense mass. All eyes were on Nangong Ningyue and the others, who hung from the city wall. People whispered, showing their concern for the prisoners.
On the city wall, dozens of Cangyue Mercenary Group members hung in plain view, their injuries making them appear almost unrecognizable. It seemed like they were unable to speak due to some sort of restriction, but their determined gazes betrayed their resilience.
Su Yi found himself squeezed among the crowd. A faint energy stirred around him, subtly pushing people aside as he made his way to the city gate.
It felt as though someone’s gaze was fixed on him from the crowd, different from the usual stares he’d felt before. Su Yi’s sharp senses caught the presence of that gaze.
He looked up and followed the direction of the stare.
To his surprise, he met the gaze of Nangong Ningyue, the leader of the Cangyue Mercenary Group. Despite her face being covered in blood, her torn clothes, and her numerous wounds, her eyes revealed an unwavering resolve.
