Chapter 22: Misfortune in Test
Extending his hand, Su Yi placed his right palm firmly on the Yuan Testing Stone. At the same time, the Yuan Qi in his body began to flow. Following the instructions of the man from Sacred Mountain, he relaxed his body, and the Yuan Qi surged through his meridians, flowing into the stone through his palm.
Everyone’s eyes, including those of the upper echelons of all the major families, were fixated on this scene, not wanting to miss a single moment.
Liu Yuan Zong and Su Jing Ting’s expressions changed for an instant before fading away without a trace.
Boom!
As Su Yi channeled Yuan Qi into the stone, the Yuan Testing Stone began to shine. At the same time, a powerful aura erupted, swirling like a tornado, with the stone at the center of the storm.
Whoosh!
The aura roared, and even the youths who had already taken the test, though prepared for it, staggered. The intensity of the aura was far greater and more violent than any other they had felt. One by one, each of them stumbled backward, with some even falling to the floor.
Liu Yanni was no exception. Her delicate figure swayed backward, and her face changed. Yuan Qi moved at her feet. Only after three steps did she manage to stabilize herself.
In that instant, four brilliant lights shot out from the stone—black, green, red, and white. Four colors of light poured out, bright and dazzling. The four colors of light alternated, all blindingly bright.
As the alternating colored lights dazzled, a change came over the expression of the initially calm Dharma Protector Wang on the platform. However, soon, his gaze filled with some regret.
As Yuan Qi flowed into the stone, Su Yi sensed thick and abundant energy moving inside the Yuan Testing Stone.
This energy seemed to pry into every part of his body.
Rumble! Rumble!
At that moment, in Su Yi’s mind, it felt as if that mysterious sphere of light, guided by some force, was coming back to life.
A burst of light exploded in Su Yi’s mind, and a mysterious power surged out like lightning, sealing the energy from the Yuan Testing Stone inside his body.
Su Yi was powerless to stop what was happening, but he could clearly feel that the mysterious sphere of light was emanating strange power, absorbing the energy from the Yuan Testing Stone—or perhaps “engulfing” would be a more suitable term.
But it didn’t end there. The strange power from the sphere of light flowed into the Yuan Testing Stone via Su Yi’s palm.
Su Yi could feel a power in his palm that could devour other energies. Finally, like silk being extracted from a silkworm cocoon, the power drew out the energy from the stone.
Boom!
The Yuan Testing Stone on the stone table emitted a tremble, wobbling from side to side.
The previously contrasting black, green, red, and white lights merged together, forming a beautiful, radiant glow that encased Su Yi.
This occurrence had never happened before, and it caused the expression of the man beside the stone to shift dramatically, his surprise evident.
But this didn’t last long. After a few seconds, everything calmed, and the light dissipated.
The Yuan Testing Stone, however, was no longer its usual radiant self. It had lost its luster and turned into an ordinary stone.
Cr-Crack!
A faint sound of cracking filled the air. To the stunned gazes of those present, cracks appeared on the Yuan Testing Stone, multiplying rapidly until it resembled a spider’s web.
Finally, the stone shattered into a pile of dust.
“What happened?”
The youths who had already taken the test were the first to be dumbfounded. They exchanged confused glances.
The man was also shocked. He examined the pile of dust, which was once the radiant Yuan Testing Stone, completely baffled by what had just occurred.
On the platform, the upper ranks of the five major families and Dharma Protector Wang were all equally stunned by the scene.
Whoosh!
The man stretched out his arm, lifting the stone table. Yuan Qi materialized beneath his feet into the faint figure of a leopard, soaring into the air and landing in front of Dharma Protector Wang.
Dharma Protector Wang stood up, his face solemn as he carefully inspected the pile of dust.
A few other Sacred Mountain experts stepped forward to inspect the dust, their faces filled with confusion.
The Su Family members stood nearby, their hearts in their throats. This had happened in front of Su Yi, and if there were any trouble, it would undoubtedly be tied to him.
On the stage, Su Yi was also stunned, unable to recover from the shock.
Su Yi had no idea that this would happen. That mysterious ball of light in his mind had acted on its own, turning the Yuan Testing Stone into a pile of dust.
Su Yi tried to recall the moment. It seemed that a strange power had surged out of the mysterious sphere of light, absorbing the energy within the Yuan Testing Stone, and afterward, the Yuan Testing Stone turned to dust.
“What did that jinx do? Even the Yuan Testing Stone was jinxed!”
The youths, still in a daze, murmured.
Eyes upon eyes turned toward Su Yi. This person truly was a jinx—he had even destroyed the Yuan Testing Stone.
On the platform, after a thorough inspection, Dharma Protector Wang shook his head and turned to the people beside him. His gaze then shifted to Su Yi below him.
His eyes moved slightly, and without any visible movement, his body suddenly appeared in the air and landed directly in front of Su Yi.
“You are called Su Yi?”
Dharma Protector Wang looked at Su Yi, his gaze intense, as if trying to see through him.
“That’s correct,” Su Yi nodded. He could feel that Dharma Protector Wang was far stronger than the man from earlier, his shapeless aura revealing his immense power.
“What did you do just now? Why did the Yuan Testing Stone suddenly shatter?” Dharma Protector Wang asked, his eyes narrowing, sharp and probing.
“I did nothing.”
Su Yi put on an innocent expression, determined to keep quiet about the mysterious sphere of light. The more convincing his explanation, the better. Shrugging his shoulders in feigned helplessness, he added, “I warned you before—what would happen if there was an error in the Yuan Testing Stone? Looks like there’s a problem with the stone now.”
How could Dharma Protector Wang believe that the Yuan Testing Stone had simply malfunctioned? The Sacred Mountain’s Yuan Testing Stones were crafted and refined by powerful experts. While a malfunction was theoretically possible, it had never happened before.
Swish! Swish!
From the platform, two more figures descended—it was Liu Zong Yuan and Su Jing Ting.
“Su Yi, did you do something just now? Do not act recklessly in front of Dharma Protector Wang!” Su Jing Ting’s gaze was stern as he looked at Su Yi.
“Uncle, I really did nothing. I have no idea why it turned out this way. It must have been a malfunction in the Yuan Testing Stone,” Su Yi replied. No matter what, he couldn’t reveal the mysterious sphere of light in his mind.
“Dharma Protector Wang, though Su Yi may be a bit mischievous but he would never dare harm the Yuan Testing Stone. I ask that you check it carefully once more,” Su Jing Ting said, glancing at Su Yi before turning to Dharma Protector Wang. He clasped his hands and bowed respectfully.
Dharma Protector Wang waved his hand slightly, signaling for Su Jing Ting to say no more.
Dharma Protector Wang already knew in his heart that a youth from a remote city, no matter his intentions, wouldn’t have the ability to damage the Yuan Testing Stone.
