Chapter 86: The Mills of God Grind Slowly
Seeing his reflection with disheveled hair, Su Yi smiled bitterly. He looked just like a barbarian.
The sight didn’t bother him much – during his three years in the Forest of Demons, he had often looked far worse. Compared to those days, his current state was much better. At least now he didn’t have to worry about common beasts.
After a simple grooming, Su Yi planned to find a quiet spot for nighttime cultivation. His gaze suddenly sharpened as it fell upon the opposite riverbank.
A body lay face-down on the shore, and something about it struck him as oddly familiar.
After a moment’s hesitation, Su Yi approached carefully to investigate. The body was drenched, its wet, tousled hair covering the head. The person’s tattered clothes were stained with blood, suggesting grave injuries. Half the body lay in the river while the other half rested on the sandy bank, and Su Yi couldn’t tell if the person was dead or alive.
The sense of familiarity grew stronger as he studied the figure. Using his foot, he gently turned the body over.
Though wet hair covered half of the deathly white face, Su Yi’s gaze trembled when he saw the other half. He unconsciously stepped back, staring cautiously.
“It’s him!” His eyes widened in recognition. This was none other than the skinny old man who had tricked him at the mine.
“Hahaha, the mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceeding small! He didn’t escape punishment – the time simply wasn’t ripe. When it was, he naturally got his due!” Su Yi laughed at the old man’s pathetic state.
“Is he dead?” After careful observation, Su Yi checked the old man’s condition. Though he wasn’t breathing, his body retained some warmth. He hadn’t been dead long.
“This is retribution!” Su Yi sighed. Though he had sworn to destroy the old man if they met again, now that death had claimed him, Su Yi had no desire to desecrate the corpse. The dead deserved respect, and death itself dissolved any lingering resentment.
“An interspatial bag!” Su Yi’s eyes lit up as he searched the body. He found three such bags – fair compensation for his losses at the mine.
“Strange… has the body swelled from being submerged?” Su Yi frowned, noticing the unnatural softness, particularly in the chest area. When he pressed down, he felt an unusual springiness.
Suspicious, he removed the outer clothes. The exposed skin was fair and white as jade, radiant and completely different from the neck and face. A thin waist and tightly bound chest suggested something entirely unexpected.
“A woman?” Su Yi was dumbfounded. The face was masculine, but the body was clearly feminine. His modern knowledge suggested possibilities, but before he could ponder further, he noticed the facial skin beginning to peel.
With a gentle pull, the disguise fell away to reveal a stunningly beautiful face beneath. She appeared to be around twenty, with delicate features, cherry-colored lips, and elegant brows. Though deathly pale, her beauty remained ethereal.
“She might still be alive!” Su Yi realized the body’s warmth might mean there was hope. Drawing on his previous life’s knowledge, he began CPR, alternating between rescue breaths and chest compressions. He even channeled Yuan Qi to enhance the treatment’s effectiveness.
Focused entirely on saving her life, Su Yi failed to notice when her eyes fluttered open. To her, the scene was incomprehensible – awakening to find a strange man’s hands on her chest and lips on hers.
“You perverted bastard, I’ll kill you!” With a sharp scream, she summoned unexpected strength and struck Su Yi forcefully.
The impact sent him flying backward a meter, landing heavily. Poor Su Yi – punished for trying to save the very person who had once betrayed him.
