Chapter 654: The Secret of Man City
“I’m fine.”
Old Man Su Yuntian spoke, then furrowed his brows, his face etched with sorrow. He sighed and said, “Another calamity has struck. Thousands have perished, tens of thousands have been gravely wounded, and even more have suffered minor injuries. I had a feeling the Immortality Gate would return, but I didn’t expect it to be so soon. This time, they even brought a formidable expert from the Demonic Emperor Realm. Thankfully, the powerful warriors from Sacred Mountain arrived in time.”
“Was it the Immortality Gate that attacked us last time?” Su Yi inquired. He had heard about an attack on Man City two decades ago but never realized it was the work of the Immortality Gate.
“Yes, it was them. I never imagined they would return to stir up trouble after twenty years,” Old Man Su Yuntian sighed.
“The Immortality Gate…” Su Yi murmured, puzzled. Why would the Immortality Gate continuously target Man City? It was merely a small town on the border, not particularly significant. What made it worth their attention?
“Could they be seeking vengeance for their defeat twenty years ago?” Su Yi wondered. That seemed to be the most logical explanation.
If revenge wasn’t the reason, then why would so many formidable warriors from the Yuan Void Realm and even a Demonic Emperor be interested in such a minor city? It simply didn’t add up.
Observing Su Yi, Old Man Su Yuntian’s expression turned solemn. “Child, there is something important I must tell you.”
Seeing his grandfather’s sudden seriousness, Su Yi was taken aback and grew more intrigued.
“This matter has always been known only to the heads of the five great families, passed down from generation to generation.”
Old Man Su Yuntian fixed his gaze on Su Yi and continued, “The Liu, Su, He, Mo, and Song families have always resided in Man City. It is said that our ancestors chose to settle here, prospering through the ages because Man City is no ordinary place—it is a land of hidden value.”
“Man City is special?” Su Yi asked, his eyes widening in astonishment.
“Indeed, it is a place of significance. The ancestors of the five great families left behind messages, instructing their descendants to protect Man City at all costs.”
These words had been passed down to Old Man Su Yuntian from his father.
“Could it be that Man City holds some hidden treasure?” Su Yi’s eyes sparkled at the thought, envisioning hidden riches within this seemingly unremarkable city.
Old Man Su Yuntian shook his head with a wry smile. “If only that were true. Over countless generations, our families have searched every corner of Man City but never uncovered anything. Eventually, most dismissed the belief that Man City held any treasures.”
“I see…” Su Yi mused. After so many generations, if any treasure truly existed, the families would have uncovered it long ago. It seemed unlikely that anything remained hidden.
“Even though the five great families no longer believe in the legend, Man City remains our ancestral home,” Old Man Su Yuntian said with firm resolve. “Man City must not fall into the hands of others!”
“Could the Immortality Gate have caught wind of some rumors and decided to keep targeting Man City?” Su Yi asked, his tone thoughtful. A secret passed down within five families shouldn’t be common knowledge.
“Possible, but improbable. Only the leaders of the five families know this history. How would the Immortality Gate learn of it?” The old man contemplated.
Su Yi frowned. The leaders of the Immortality Gate and the Green Emperor had both managed to flee. If an opportunity arose, capturing and interrogating them might reveal the truth.
But Su Yi knew this was just wishful thinking. Given his current strength, attempting to capture the Green Emperor or the leader of the Immortality Gate was nothing short of suicidal. He would only be courting disaster.
“Grandfather, is there truly nothing special about Man City?” Su Yi asked, growing increasingly curious about his homeland.
“Nothing particularly remarkable,” the old man replied, shaking his head. “I’ve spent my entire life in Man City and never sensed anything extraordinary about it.”
“But…” Old Man Su Yuntian hesitated, then looked at Su Yi seriously. “There is something I have never shared with anyone before.”
Su Yi immediately focused all his attention on him.
“Twenty years ago, I was only at the eighth level of the Yuan True Realm. Everyone believed that I was the one who defeated the sect leader of the Immortality Gate and their powerful members, but in reality…”
Old Man Su Yuntian paused, a flicker of sorrow crossing his face.
Su Yi’s curiosity deepened. Ever since he learned about the invasion two decades ago, he had wondered about the truth.
The old man had barely stepped into the Yuan Void Realm. Back then, rumors claimed that he led a fearless charge against the enemy, personally cutting down countless foes and ultimately slaying the sect leader before withdrawing.
Based on the strength displayed by the Immortality Gate in their recent attack, Su Yi reasoned that their forces twenty years ago could not have been much weaker.
Even with the old man’s cultivation back then—or even now—it would have been an impossible feat.
“At that time, I had resigned myself to death, hoping only to buy time for Man City so that some could escape. But then, something inexplicable happened—I felt like a completely different person. My strength surged beyond imagination, and when I regained consciousness, I had already slain the sect leader and learned that many of their elites had been vanquished,” Old Man Su Yuntian recounted, his eyes filled with wonder.
Su Yi was stunned, staring at his grandfather in disbelief. It took him a moment to process the revelation. Judging by the old man’s expression, he wasn’t jesting.
“Even now, after two decades, I still have no idea what truly happened that day.”
For a long while, Old Man Su Yuntian was lost in thought. This secret had weighed heavily on him for twenty years. Finally speaking about it lifted a burden from his heart.
Taking a deep breath, he continued, “Regardless, the Immortality Gate has failed again, and both the Green Emperor and Zhuba Yi have suffered severe injuries. They won’t dare cause trouble for the time being. The future of Man City now rests in the hands of you young ones.”
The old man felt a sense of relief. His grandson, Su Yi, was extraordinary. Given time, he would undoubtedly become a force to be reckoned with. By then, Man City would be safe from harm.
“Grandfather, you are still young and have much room for growth.”
Su Yi dismissed his concerns. The entire matter remained shrouded in mystery. Perhaps Man City did harbor some hidden truth. But for now, after his recent encounter with the mysterious space, he was certain—his grandfather had the potential to break through to the Yuan Emperor Realm in the future.
