Chapter 463: Ambushed!
“It’s all your effort, really. I haven’t been much help,” Situ Muyang admitted, a little embarrassed. Over the past few days, the most he had done was help Su Yi lure out demon beasts, leaving Su Yi to handle the rest.
As he spent more time with him, Situ Muyang realized it wasn’t so bad being around this formidable figure. Everything felt novel and exciting—adventurous yet exhilarating.
Looking at the fierce young man before him, Situ Muyang found himself disliking him less and less. In fact, he even started to admire him a little. It was a subtle, almost imperceptible change.
“You’ve definitely contributed. You lured away so many demon beasts! As we agreed, we share both good fortune and hardships,” Su Yi replied earnestly.
Situ Muyang smiled wryly but didn’t argue. Instead, he asked, “So, where to now?”
During these days of constant action, even though Su Yi was the one handling the danger, Situ Muyang had been deeply affected by the thrill of facing so many powerful demon beasts. It only heightened his eagerness for what might come next.
“There’s no sign of spirit medicines nearby. Let’s head to that dangerous place!” Su Yi decided after a moment’s thought.
The Dark Golden Demon Falcon, the leader of the Wolf-headed Demon Bats, and other demon beast leaders had all mentioned a perilous location rumored to be both mysterious and deadly.
“Roar…”
“Master, that place is very peculiar. The entrance appears and disappears randomly,” the leader of the Wolf-headed Demon Bats informed Su Yi. Its tone was cautious. “The area is full of mysteries and dangers.”
“Master, they say it’s extremely perilous. Almost all living beings that enter never return. Only a very few have ever made it out alive,” the Dark Golden Demon Falcon added. Although it didn’t know much, it had heard enough to feel uneasy. In the Battlefield of Ten Thousand Swords, tales of this place spread like wildfire.
“Humans are largely unaware of this location. The entrance appears intermittently, and the atmosphere within is said to be terrifying. Even creatures who stumble upon the entrance rarely dare to enter. Of those who have gone in, none have been seen again,” the Wolf-headed Demon Bat explained, its voice trembling slightly as it described the ominous place.
“If even the Divine Sword School doesn’t know about it, there must be something special there,” Su Yi muttered to himself, considering the information he’d gathered. It was clear the place was incredibly dangerous, with a slim chance of survival for anyone who entered. Yet, it also seemed to hold great potential.
“We’ll scout the area first and decide what to do,” Su Yi said after a moment’s thought.
From the accounts of the Wolf-headed Demon Bat and the Dark Golden Demon Falcon, Su Yi learned that the entrance to the dangerous place had been appearing more frequently recently. However, its exact whereabouts remained elusive, and even these demon leaders could only describe a general location—somewhere in the surrounding mountains.
“Swoosh, swoosh…”
The group rode the Dark Golden Demon Falcon towards the mountain range where the entrance might appear. Thanks to the falcon’s speed, they covered the considerable distance in no time.
The mountains stretched endlessly, their peaks shrouded in mist. The ancient forest beneath them was vast, with towering trees forming a canopy that seemed to touch the sky. The branches spread wide, lush and verdant, resembling waves of green in a sea.
The trees stood like solemn sentinels under the quiet canopy, their grandeur magnified by the silence of the forest.
As Su Yi, Situ Muyang, Xu Jiahui, and the others arrived, the forest seemed to swallow them whole. All around were deep, dense woods, brimming with towering trees and thriving vegetation.
“Master, we’re close. There are also some powerful demon beasts in this area,” the Wolf-headed Demon Bat warned, its senses attuned to their surroundings.
“The entrance is elusive, but if we come across it, we’ll know,” Su Yi said decisively. He planned to explore the area thoroughly in search of opportunities before making his next move.
After half an hour, Su Yi made a discovery—but it was far from good. A strange demon beast launched a surprise attack. The creature resembled a monkey, with sharp fangs, a body shrouded in a green glow, and hooked claws. It swooped down from the towering trees, targeting Xu Jiahui, who was at the rear.
“Whoosh…”
The beast’s hooked claws glinted as they sliced through the air. Radiant light flickered at their tips, sharp enough to distort the airwaves with fierce, destructive force.
Silent and deadly, the strange beast specialized in ambushes. Its attacks were swift and soundless, striking with the speed of lightning.
Su Yi sensed the danger, but the beast was too fast—help arrived just a moment too late.
“Be careful!”
A flash of white light streaked by as Situ Muyang appeared behind Xu Jiahui. He threw a punch with all his might, generating a shockwave that intercepted the attack.
“Splurt…”
“Bang!”
The impact was catastrophic. Situ Muyang was flung backward, hitting the ground with a heavy thud. He coughed up a mouthful of blood, his body trembling from the force.
“Roar!”
Su Yi acted swiftly. His sword gleamed like lightning, enveloped in a crimson glow. The air vibrated with the faint sound of a dragon’s roar as he unleashed the Three Sabers of the Raging Dragon Emperor Slash.
A fiery red light erupted like a volcanic explosion, surging forward with overwhelming force.
The strange beast’s ferocious eyes widened in shock as the red sword light engulfed it. Yet, it retaliated with a dazzling beam of energy, forming a radiant barrier that clashed against Su Yi’s attack.
“Rumble…”
Sand and stones flew in all directions, and towering trees were shattered by the shockwave. Incredibly, the beast managed to block the powerful sword light.
“Roar…”
The leader of the Wolf-headed Demon Bats joined the fray, unleashing its trump card: the Bloodthirsty Enchantment Barrier. A terrifying aura of bloodlust and killing intent surged outward, flooding the battlefield.
The strange beast roared as its body radiated a blue crystal-like glow. However, it was soon engulfed by the rolling tide of blood and killing intent.
The terrifying aura swept through the area, withering towering trees and suffocating the atmosphere. But when the chaos subsided, the leader of the Wolf-headed Demon Bats stood stunned. The strange beast had vanished—escaping the Bloodthirsty Enchantment Barrier without leaving a trace or a sound.
“It escaped!”
Su Yi’s expression darkened. The strange beast was unlike anything he had encountered before—its abilities were both peculiar and dangerous.
“Are you alright?”
Xu Jiahui hurried to Situ Muyang’s side, helping him up with a look of gratitude. Without his intervention, she shuddered to think of what might have happened.
“I’m not dead, just injured,” Situ Muyang said, his face pale as he steadied himself with Xu Jiahui’s support. “That demon beast is incredibly strong and bizarre. I don’t even know what it is.”
His injuries were severe, inflicted in just one blow. He hadn’t even managed to get a clear look at the creature.
“Be careful,” Su Yi warned, his tone grave. “That demon beast is not easy to deal with.”
