Chapter 41: Silencing the Witness
“Childish tricks!”
Wang Quan De’s expression shifted only slightly, and his face remained calm. He waved his hand, and a powerful surge of Yuan Qi burst from his palm, colliding fiercely with the beast bone.
During this clash, the aura rippled outward violently, like waves in the sea.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The surrounding rocks shattered, trees split in two, and the ground cracked with a thunderous roar.
“Bastard, this doesn’t look like it is going to end well!”
At that moment, just as the middle-aged mercenary leader hurled his beast bone with all his might, Su Yi’s face changed. He kept his body low and dashed away like a flying arrow, diving straight into the escape route he had prepared earlier.
Su Yi’s escape route led into a dense forest beside the valley, where thick leaves blocked the sky, and thorny bushes were everywhere.
Su Yi knew very well that he wasn’t strong enough. Escaping along the open path? That was out of the question!
As expected, the moment Su Yi bolted out, the middle-aged man set his sights on him. He had long noticed the youth hiding in the vicinity, which was why he had made such a flashy move in front of Wang Quan De. If he could capture this youth, he might be able to turn the situation around.
“Run.”
Only one word echoed in Su Yi’s mind. The mercenary leader had locked onto him, and his only option now was to run as fast as he could, hoping Wang Quan De would catch up soon. That was the only way he could be free.
Through the dense undergrowth, Su Yi twisted and turned. This desperate yet calculated fleeing was the result of countless similar experiences.
Su Yi’s cultivation had reached the Yuan Soul Realm, and he unleashed all his power. With the feeling of boundless strength, he dashed into the forest, covering several tens of meters in the blink of an eye.
The middle-aged man believed he could simply turn around and surprise the youth with an attack, capturing him before he could escape. Then, he would have a chance to threaten Sacred Mountain.
But he had never expected that Su Yi would react this quickly, taking such a tricky path through the forest. This had caught him off guard.
However, there was still a vast difference in their cultivation levels, and the mercenary leader had survived in the Forest of Demons for many years. He swiftly gave chase, Yuan Qi swirling around him like a mini tornado, clearing away any vegetation in his path. He was almost upon Su Yi.
Boom!
A wave of energy struck the ground beneath the middle-aged man’s feet, sending bits of rock flying. The huge impact caused him to stumble, giving Su Yi a chance to cover more ground.
The middle-aged man’s expression changed drastically. He had no time for hesitation—capturing this youth was his only chance at survival. Without a second thought, he pushed himself harder, chasing after Su Yi with everything he had.
While Su Yi was fast for his level, the mercenary leader’s cultivation far exceeded his. Though the dense forest slowed him down, his speed was still lightning-fast.
Bam!
Just as Su Yi found himself in a life-or-death situation, Wang Quan De’s attack struck again, causing the middle-aged man to stumble once more.
The three figures continued to chase through the forest, gradually moving further from the main battle. Only the distant sounds of shouts and explosions echoed behind them.
“Rascal, let’s see how just far you can run!”
The middle-aged man glared coldly. With one final burst of speed, his face contorted in anger. He formed a hand seal that struck Su Yi’s shoulder.
In that instant, the power of the hand seal locked onto Su Yi’s shoulder like iron shackles, halting him in place. He couldn’t take another step forward, and even his Yuan Qi seemed frozen in place.
Though Su Yi had a dagger hidden in his long sleeve, he quickly realized it was useless—he couldn’t move at all.
When the middle-aged man caught up with him, his face beamed with triumph. Before even turning around, he shouted, “Stop! Or I’ll kill this kid!”
“You think too highly of yourself!”
At that moment, Wang Quan De appeared behind the middle-aged man like a ghost. Without a sound, he grabbed the man’s neck.
The middle-aged man froze in shock, as though he had seen a ghost. His face was filled with disbelief as he stammered, “How… how could this happen?”
“Having just entered the Yuan True Realm, did you really think that could you possibly be a match for me?”
These words rang in the middle-aged man’s ear, and then there was the distinct sound of a neck snapping.
Crack!
The middle-aged man’s body went limp, collapsing lifelessly onto the forest floor, his eyes wide open in shock.
Blood seeped from where the hand seal had clutched Su Yi’s shoulder. As Su Yi raised his eyes to look at Wang Quan De, he felt a surge of caution. He had just escaped the lion’s den, only to fall into the jaws of the crocodile.
“I never thought that I would have this chance this quickly.”
Wang Quan De’s cold smile widened as he looked at Su Yi.
“You did it on purpose didn’t you?”
Su Yi’s face fell. He finally understood—this mercenary leader had never stood a chance against Wang Quan De from the beginning.
If Wang Quan De had truly wanted to kill the middle-aged man, he would have done so immediately. The entire pursuit had been staged, to lure the mercenary leader away from the others. This allowed Wang Quan De to create an opportunity to act unnoticed.
“You’re a smart kid, but it’s too bad… What a pity!”
Wang Quan De smiled, and a shapeless aura spiralled out from him, enveloping Su Yi’s entire body. With a single motion, he grabbed Su Yi’s shoulder and, together with the corpse of the middle-aged man, dashed deeper into the forest.
“So Wang Quan De is planning to kill me!”
Su Yi realized his fate. Despite being imprisoned by a formless power, he wasn’t panicking. In fact, he became even calmer.
Su Yi started contemplating. If Wang Quan De wanted to silence him, it could only be due to the his engagement with Liu Ruoxi. There had to be no other reason.
His body was still frozen, held by Wang Quan De’s hand, unable to move. Even his Yuan Qi had been sealed.
“This is the power of that the strong wield!”
Su Yi couldn’t help but feel like a fish on a chopping block, waiting to be slaughtered. In this world, where cultivation ruled all, strength was the only answer that mattered.
After a while, deep within the forest, a figure soared into the air. Su Yi could feel the change as Wang Quan De made several leaps, rising higher.
And as expected, when Su Yi was thrown to the ground by Wang Quan De, they were standing at the edge of a cliff. Clouds drifted around them. The cliff was so high it seemed to reach the very sky.
Wang Quan De tossed the middle-aged man’s body off the high cliff.
“He is throwing the body away so as to leave no evidence. I sure am in deep trouble now!”
Su Yi smiled bitterly in his heart, but he still held firm. Wang Quan De had brought the mercenary’s body here and thrown it off to avoid leaving any traces that others could follow.
