Chapter 4: Wan Er Has Grown Up
“Watch out for Su Wei. It is as plain as day that he wants to kill you, and perhaps it’s not only for the position of the heir but also for Liu Ruoxi. That jerk is a sly one.”
Fatty Wang looked at Su Yi, his gaze expressing his condolences. He truly admired Su Yi for his actions three years ago. Besides this guy in front of him, no one in the city would ever dare to do such a thing.
“No worries. He is still not enough to beat me.”
Su Yi smiled, not too bothered about Su Wei.
Afterward, Fatty Wang told Su Yi that, three days later, the strong cultivators from Sacred Mountain would be choosing some youths to enter Sacred Mountain.
Fatty Wang did not say much more, as he did not have the right to enter Sacred Mountain. Su Yi was not even an equal to him; how would he have the right?
Furthermore, even if this guy had the right, Liu Ruoxi was currently the fairy of Sacred Mountain. Even with ten more leopard’s galls, he might still be afraid to go to Sacred Mountain. But if he did, then Liu Ruoxi would tear him to pieces alive when he got there.
The news of Su Yi returning home spread like wildfire throughout the entire Su Family, causing a huge commotion.
“His clothes did not cover his entire body, and his bones were like twigs. How tragic!”
“He was all skin and bones and returned in rags!”
“That is the Forest of Demons, you know. It is a miracle that he was even able to return alive!”
“He was really lucky, staying in that forest for three years and still managing to return!”
Various conversations spread throughout the Su Family’s huge estate, but no one went to see Su Yi. No one wanted to go near that jinx.
At this moment, Su Yi was resting in the rocking chair of a small yard.
The once luxurious courtyard was not only silent, but its majesty had also faded into the past.
“Young Master Su Yi, you have finally returned! Oh, thank God, I have been waiting for countless days. The bed sheets have all been washed and changed, and I have cleaned your room every day, waiting for your return.”
A girl much younger than Su Yi was ecstatic and kept chattering nonstop.
The young girl had a small face and thin eyebrows. Even though she wore very shabby clothes, her petite figure and radiant skin could not be hidden.
Su Yi had his hands behind his head, leaning against the rocking chair and grinning while looking at the young girl.
Three years had passed. The once small girl had grown up. The initial stage of growing up to have a fine, curvy body was already starting to tempt others. Su Yi thought to himself, “In a few more years, she will be a fine beauty.”
The girl was called Wan Er. Both her parents had died, and Su Yi had met her accidentally on the streets ten years ago. Pitying the lonely girl, he brought her home, gave her the name Wan Er, and kept her by his side.
In Su Yi’s heart, he had always treated her as if she were his real younger sister, but the little girl was stubborn and only viewed herself as a maid.
“Young Master, what are you looking at? Hurry up and go take a bath. Look at you—when have you suffered so much? How could the Old Master be so heartless as to send you to the Forest of Demons? I heard that place is the same as hell itself.”
When Wan Er saw how pathetic Su Yi looked, almost like a beggar, she was heartbroken, and tears started forming in her eyes, almost flowing down her face.
Initially, she cried and begged to follow Su Yi, but she was not allowed to. For these three years, she had been counting down the days until she could see him again.
“I’m fine. Look at me—haven’t I returned alive and well?”
Su Yi had not been afraid of much since he was young, but one of the things he feared was Wan Er’s tears. He could only stand up and go to bathe.
In the room, Wan Er had long prepared everything needed for a bath. She had also specially put sweet-smelling flower petals in the wooden tub, and the scent spread out in all directions.
“Young Master, let me help you remove your clothes.”
Wan Er removed Su Yi’s clothes very naturally, and the tears in her eyes trickled down her cheeks.
“Young Master, you have suffered so much over these years.”
Wan Er cried, her tears wetting her face. She could only see scars of all shapes and sizes on Su Yi’s back, coloring it with different hues.
Some scars had already healed completely, but even by just looking at them, she could tell that the injuries must have exposed the bones when they were fresh.
Wan Er could bear it no longer. Tears drenched her face as her heart ached with sadness.
How could she not guess that what the Young Master had endured over the past three years was far beyond anything she could imagine?
“Silly girl, what is there to cry about.”
Su Yi turned around and smiled, wiping away the tears at the corners of her eyes. “You should go out now. I can wash myself.”
“Young Master, I’ve always helped you bathe in the past. Do you not want me to anymore?”
Wan Er’s face suddenly became nervous. In the past, when the Young Master bathed, she was always by his side tending to him, even though most of the time her eyes were shut and the Young Master only asked her to pass a towel.
“Silly girl, you’ve grown up now. Men and women should not be too close. If word gets out that you’re still serving me during my bath, how will you find a decent man to marry in the future?”
Su Yi laughed. Thinking back to three years ago when he allowed this girl to serve him while bathing, he could only scold himself in his heart for being a beast.
“But I have not made any plans to marry. My entire life is to serve Young Master.”
Wan Er looked at the now-turned Su Yi, her gaze lingering on his figure. He was much taller than three years ago, and now, with his robe removed, his skinny frame had transformed into a tanned, copper-brown body. His muscles were tough and robust, radiating explosive strength.
“Actually, Young Master, I think it’s better if you bathe by yourself.”
Girls naturally matured earlier than boys, and a red blush crept up Wan Er’s face as she darted out of the room, closing the door behind her.
Su Yi shook his head, then turned to look at his densely scarred back. This was the price he had paid over the past three years
The Su estate was enormous, comprising the inner courtyard, the outer courtyard, the North Wing, the South Wing, the East Wing, the West Wing, and more.
The main Su Family already had quite a few members, not to mention the branch families, guards, servants, and maids. Altogether, the people living in the Su Estate numbered over a thousand.
Outside a quiet courtyard stood a few figures, hesitating as if trying to decide whether to approach.
“Fifth Chamberlain, are we really going to enter? I’ve heard that the jinx Su Yi is back. Over the past few years, we’ve given Wan Er a hard time. What if she complained about us? Wouldn’t we be in trouble?”
A servant around 20+ years old opened his mouth, and he was the same as the other servants beside him. He kept looking around the courtyard, his face troubled.
For the past 3 years, they have bullied Wan Er quite a bit.
In front of these servants was a middle-aged man in his thirties. Though not tall, his attire was bright and clean, and his burly figure exuded confidence.
The middle-aged man turned to look at the servant who had spoken and grunted coldly, “Humph! It’s good that he’s back. I heard he returned looking so pitiful that one could hardly bear to look at him. I think he’s learned his lesson after surviving in the Forest of Demons for the past three years. We can use this chance to beat him down further and make our lives easier in the future.”
With those words, the Fifth Chamberlain gathered his courage and strode into the courtyard with his head held high and chest puffed out.
The servants behind him, reassured by his confidence, followed closely. After all, the Fifth Chamberlain had already reached the Foundation Building Stage and was nearly at the Yuan Soul Realm. They figured they wouldn’t suffer any losses under his protection.
Inside the courtyard, Wan Er was tidying up. Her thoughts drifted back to the scene she had just witnessed. It was her first time seeing a man’s body up close, and Su Yi’s physique was far different from the guards she had seen training shirtless. The feeling it evoked was completely different. The more she thought about it, the more her face flushed.
“Fifth Chamberlain, what are you guys doing here?”
When she saw the Fifth Chamberlain approaching with the other servants, Wan Er instinctively took a few steps back.
Seeing Wan Er’s flushed face, the Fifth Chamberlain could not help but be captivated by her beauty.
He had had his eyes on the girl for quite some time, but being the personal maid of that good-for-nothing Young Master made her identity somewhat special.
Over the past three years, he had tried many ways to tempt and threaten her, but all his attempts had failed. When he finally decided to bide his time and take her by brute force, the jinx had unexpectedly returned.
Recalling how he had made life difficult for the girl over the years, the Fifth Chamberlain felt slightly uneasy. He had two reasons for coming here today: first, someone had asked him to check on the situation, and second, his curiosity and worry had gotten the better of him. He wanted to see with his own eyes what had become of the jinx after three years in the Forest of Demons.
“Wan Er, I told you last time that I would give you half a month. The time is up. When you first joined the Su Family, you were not officially registered. I have the authority to kick you out of the household.”
The Fifth Chamberlain looked at Wan Er with a predatory gaze. The little girl had grown into a fine young lady over the years, like an unripe green apple—still a bit tart, but uniquely tempting. He feared that if he didn’t act soon, she might slip out of his grasp and fall into someone else’s hands.
“Fifth Chamberlain, don’t cross the line. I have been Young Master Su Yi’s maid since I was young. Everyone in the Su Family knows you don’t have the authority to kick me out. Moreover, the Young Master has returned. If you don’t leave now, the Young Master will not let you off easily!”
Wan Er glared at the Fifth Chamberlain, her brown eyes like autumn lakes beneath fine, curving lashes. Her petite red lips were slightly pursed, and she bit down on them softly. Amidst her stubbornness, she carried an air of pride.
“Haha, are you talking about that jinx? Do you think that good-for-nothing Young Master can protect you? Let me tell you the truth: the Su Family has changed. If you’re smart, you’ll know what to do. Follow me, and you’ll have a comfortable life. If not, well, hehe…”
The Fifth Chamberlain sneered. That Young Master was nothing but a relic of the past, now reduced to garbage. He had returned to the family in disgrace; what could possibly be expected of him?
That jinx had caused so much trouble. Even though he had returned, his fate within the family was uncertain.
As a mere chamberlain, the Fifth Chamberlain had no need to fear such a useless Young Master.
“What an audacious slave! If not, what would you do?”
