Chapter 373: Night Pursuit!
The old man in gray couldn’t help but comprehend the gravity of the situation. Liu Yunchuan, Gong Qi, and Yun Lingfeng were prodigies of the younger generation, revered by the sect as exceptional and monstrous talents. Their remarkable cultivation progress left everyone in awe.
Yet, five years ago, when Liu Yunchuan and the others were only fifteen or sixteen, their cultivation levels barely approached the Yuan Xuan Realm.
Now, an outer disciple named Su Yi, who seemed to be around fifteen or sixteen, was rumored to have already reached the Yuan Spirit Realm.
The stark contrast startled the old man in gray, sending a chill down his spine and making him shudder involuntarily.
The tall, middle-aged man gave a faint smile and said to the old man, “For now, there’s no need to act. Let’s pretend we know nothing.”
“But such an outer disciple, once word spreads, will surely create an uproar,” the old man replied, his eyes gleaming. Su Yi was merely an outer disciple, and Elder Su wasn’t on the Thirty-Sixth Sword Peak. Once the news leaked, someone would inevitably move to seize the opportunity, afraid of missing out.
“Whoever acts, it’s still within the Divine Sword School, isn’t it?” the middle-aged man said with a chuckle, though a glint of cunning flashed in his eyes, unnoticed by the old man.
“Senior Brother, Su Yi went to the Divine Sword Cliff!”
Atop the Thirty-Sixth Sword Peak, Xu Jiahui stood trembling, her voice filled with awe as she addressed a young man clad in black battle attire before her.
The outer disciples on the peak stood silent and uneasy in the presence of the disciple from the Court of Justice, their bodies quivering under the oppressive atmosphere.
The young man in black was known as Jian Shiyi, a figure of great renown among the younger generation in the Divine Sword School. Despite his youth, his cultivation was said to be so profound that even some elders held him in high regard.
“Hmph, how bold!”
Upon hearing Xu Jiahui’s words, a group of disciples from the Court of Justice arrived, their gazes cold and fierce as they stared down the outer disciples. Their icy stares, combined with an intangible aura of authority, caused the outer disciples to feel an overwhelming pressure.
“Chase them—they won’t get far!” Jian Shiyi commanded, ignoring the outer disciples entirely.
He tapped the ground lightly with his foot, releasing a surge of elemental energy. The dim black energy expanded, glowing faintly before condensing into the phantom of a black eagle beneath him. The shadow radiated a pervasive, intimidating light as Jian Shiyi stepped onto it and shot forward into the night.
“Roarrr!”
The other disciples of the Court of Justice followed closely, condensing their qi to manifest the illusion of flying demon beasts. Those unable to conjure their own illusions relied on others to carry them.
“Goo!” “Ow!”
At the foot of the mountain, the roars of ferocious flying demon beasts echoed as they took to the sky, joining the pursuit.
As the disciples of the Court of Justice disappeared into the distance, Xu Jiahui and the remaining outer disciples finally exhaled in relief.
“Do you think they’ll catch up to Brother Su Yi?” someone asked quietly, their tone heavy with concern.
Xu Jiahui took a deep breath, her expression resolute. “They’ve already been on the road for a while. Let’s hope Brother Su Yi reaches the Divine Sword Cliff before Jian Shiyi and the others catch up.”
She had done all she could. Now, their only option was to hope that Su Yi’s speed could outmatch his pursuers’.
Once you enter the Divine Sword Cliff, no one is permitted to intrude or disturb.
…
Night had already draped its veil over the mountains. In the half-lit sky, the Fierce Wind Golden Eagle radiated a faint glow.
“Once you have enough points, you can enter the Divine Sword Cliff at any time. The destination is just ahead,” Zhang Qing said to Su Yi, exhaling in relief as they neared the cliff.
“Could someone else be heading to the Divine Sword Cliff at this hour?”
Standing on the back of the Fierce Wind Golden Eagle, Su Yi gazed into the distance behind them. In the night sky, several flickering lights grew brighter, steadily approaching.
“Ow!” “Goo!”
The roars of beasts pierced the night as several flying demon beasts sped toward them. Leading the group was an exotic, fierce-looking beast, exuding a formidable presence.
Several young figures stood upright on the beast’s back, their robes fluttering in the wind, their expressions sharp and unyielding.
“That’s…”
Zhang Qing squinted into the distance. When the figures and their mounts came into full view, his face immediately changed.
Particularly striking was a young man in his twenties, dressed in a tight-fitting black battle suit with a gray cloak billowing behind him. His sharp, chiseled features and cold, ruthless expression left Zhang Qing visibly shaken.
“Jian Shiyi from the Court of Justice! The Court of Justice disciples have caught up!” Zhang Qing exclaimed in alarm. He had just begun to relax, thinking they would reach the Divine Sword Cliff without trouble. Never did he expect the Court of Justice disciples to be hot on their trail, and, even more troubling, that Jian Shiyi himself was leading the pursuit.
“Is Jian Shiyi very strong?” Su Yi asked calmly, though he had already sensed with his extraordinary soul that the pursuing disciples were all at the Yuan Spirit Realm. Among them, the black-armored young man seemed even stronger than Huo Dongqiu.
“Jian Shiyi’s strength is unfathomable,” Zhang Qing replied, his voice tinged with awe. “He’s a leader among the Divine Sword School’s young disciples and holds the fifteenth rank in the Sword Tower!”
For Zhang Qing, the fifteenth rank in the Sword Tower was an unimaginable achievement.
Su Yi’s eyes narrowed as he learned about the Sword Tower from Zhang Qing and Xu Jiahui. The Sword Tower was said to be a mysterious place that measured one’s cultivation and strength. A disciple’s rank within the tower reflected their standing among all the young peers of the Divine Sword School.
To be ranked fifteenth among tens of thousands of disciples was proof of Jian Shiyi’s extraordinary power.
“Ow!” “Goo!”
The pursuing flying demon beasts roared as they closed in. Each one was as formidable as the Fierce Wind Golden Eagle.
The beast carrying Jian Shiyi and his companions was particularly swift. Its immense wings churned the air into violent gusts, creating turbulent winds as it rapidly gained on the Fierce Wind Golden Eagle. It was now only a few dozen meters away.
“Did you think you could hide in the Divine Sword Cliff? Escape is impossible!” one of the Court of Justice disciples shouted, convinced that Su Yi was fleeing out of fear.
“Hmph,” Su Yi snorted. His gaze hardened as he exerted subtle force through his feet. The Fierce Wind Golden Eagle responded immediately, spreading its wings wide and leaping horizontally. It spiraled in midair with a 360-degree turn, stabilizing its position to hover and face the pursuing beasts head-on.
“Ow!”
The leading beast, carrying Jian Shiyi, soared forward to confront Su Yi’s mount. It flapped its massive wings, releasing a surge of energy as it took its place at the forefront of the pursuit.
