Chapter 309: War!
“Let’s go together!” Chi Zu agreed with a nod.
“We want to go too!”
Xiong Zhan, Hu Chi, and several others were equally eager. The opportunity to witness Su Yi fighting the Cold Waves Golden-Red Beast was too exciting to pass up.
“No, stay here and don’t wander off,” Su Yi said firmly, shaking his head. He had already promised the Demon Emperor that the disciples of the Divine Demonic Sect would not roam freely in Cang Lan City.
While the Fiery Red Demonic Mink and other demon beasts could move without issue, the same could not be said for the human disciples.
Half an hour later, in a secluded corner of Cang Lan City, Su Yi and Chi Zu arrived at a massive canyon.
“Come on! No need for formalities—let’s fight!” Chi Zu roared as his body began to radiate a bright red glow, growing rapidly until he loomed like a small mountain. The dazzling light made him look even more imposing.
“Let’s fight!” Su Yi exclaimed. Deep down, he had always wanted to test himself against a peer-level monster cub to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.
Now, standing before him was the Cold Waves Golden-Red Beast, a formidable opponent. Su Yi’s fighting spirit ignited.
Although Su Yi had previously subdued the Golden Ancient Scorpion, he had relied on a trump card to do so. Now that Chi Zu had fully recovered from his injuries, Su Yi was determined to measure his abilities without resorting to his hidden techniques.
“Roarrr!”
Chi Zu charged, his body emanating an overwhelming red glow. The air grew heavy with blazing heat as if a raging sea of fire was surging toward Su Yi.
“Fight!” Su Yi shouted, his eyes gleaming like lightning. His hair danced wildly in the wind as his energy surged through his body. With a powerful punch, he split through the incoming sea of fire.
“Haha!”
Chi Zu retaliated with a mighty swipe of his colossal, fiery claws. The sheer force of the blow shattered rocks into dust and sent powerful gusts of wind rippling outward.
Su Yi didn’t retreat. Instead, he advanced boldly, meeting the attack head-on. With unyielding determination, he raised his arms to counter Chi Zu’s assault.
The clash between man and beast was nothing short of cataclysmic. The ground trembled, rocks exploded into fragments, and the surrounding trees withered under the pressure. Sand and stones flew wildly as the battle raged.
“The master has made incredible progress!”
From a distance, the Golden Python, Silver Spirit Fairy Butterfly, Spectral Mouse, and other demon beasts watched the battle with awe. Their gazes quivered as they witnessed Su Yi’s strength.
Half an hour later, the ferocious duel came to an end. The ground had been reduced to rubble, and the once-deafening roars and rumbles faded into silence.
“That was incredible!”
Chi Zu reverted to his normal size, panting heavily. His once-bright scales were dim, and several wounds marred his body, with fresh blood oozing from some of them.
Su Yi didn’t look much better. His hair was disheveled, his face pale, and his breathing labored. However, compared to Chi Zu, he was in slightly better shape.
The battle had been an excellent opportunity for Su Yi to test his abilities. He had refined his techniques, including the Demonic Spirit Truth Interpretation, the Mighty Desolate Verse, and the Heavenly Tiger Art, discovering their effectiveness in suppressing demon beasts. Even Chi Zu, a powerful young demon beast, had been affected. Su Yi felt a deep sense of satisfaction with the results.
“Once I recover, let’s do this again!” Chi Zu said enthusiastically. Despite losing, he was exhilarated. Battles like this were rare, even in Cang Lan City, and Chi Zu knew how valuable they were for honing his skills.
“Alright, we’ll continue!” Su Yi agreed, equally eager. This duel had been a significant learning experience, both in terms of skill and personal growth.
Meanwhile, atop a distant mountain overlooking the canyon, two figures silently observed the fight. Their auras were concealed, making them difficult to detect.
One was an old man clad in a yellow robe, his piercing eyes gleaming with sharpness.
The other was a burly, middle-aged man with copper-red skin, chiseled features, and dark red eyes that radiated an aura of absolute authority. This was none other than the Demon Emperor Chi Qin.
“What do you think?” Chi Qin asked, his tone calm yet commanding.
The old man in the yellow robe, still staring at the battlefield, replied in a tone of astonishment, “It’s extraordinary. That human youth is only at the first grade of the Yuan Spirit Realm, yet he managed to defeat Chi Zu!”
Shock filled the old man’s gaze as he continued, “A young human like him… he’s truly a rare genius.”
“He seems to be much stronger than I expected.”
Chi Qin’s gaze deepened, his eyes slightly lowered as if lost in thought. The oppressive power radiating from him was almost palpable.
“Such a human teenager—if he grows up, he will become a fearsome force among humans. Killing him today would deprive humanity of a powerful ally in the future,” the yellow-robed old man said, his eyes gleaming with a cold light. This human boy was too talented; if left to mature, he would become a significant threat to the demon clan.
“The war between the Demon Clan and the Human Clan ended a long time ago,” Chi Qin remarked with a faint smile. He turned to the yellow-robed elder and added, “Besides, those demon beasts around him are not ordinary either—Silver Spirit Fairy Butterfly, Spectral Mouse, Golden Python, White Jade Swallow Bird, Fiery Red Demonic Mink, Fire-Eyes Beast Tiger. Their bloodlines may not be exceptionally high, but their auras are unusual, complex even. It’s hard to discern their origins.”
The yellow-robed elder’s expression turned pensive. “Could it be connected to the Divine Demonic Sect?”
Chi Qin responded slowly, “I’m becoming increasingly curious about the Divine Demonic Sect…”
Another day passed.
That night, the sky was overcast, with the moon and stars hidden behind dark clouds.
“Grandpa, how are you now? Father and Mother, where are you? Are you still alive?”
By the river, the flowing water gurgled softly. Under the shadowy night sky, Su Yi sat alone by the water, staring blankly at the rippling surface. His thoughts were heavy, filled with concern for his grandfather’s wounds and the fate of his parents in this world.
Not far away, Shangguan Xi Wei approached quietly. The moonlight highlighted her graceful curves, casting an enchanting glow over her figure. Su Yi was momentarily captivated, but he quickly snapped out of it and stepped forward.
“Why are you here?”
Su Yi turned around at her approach. Seeing Shangguan Xi Wei, his expression softened, and he smiled faintly as he asked the question.
“I saw you sitting here, so I came to check on you,” Shangguan Xi Wei replied. Her gaze lingered on Su Yi for a moment before she asked gently, “Are you feeling homesick?”
“I do miss home,” Su Yi admitted without hesitation. He thought often of his family, worrying about his grandfather’s injuries and wondering how Su Wan’er and Fatty Wang were faring.
“You’ve worked so hard recently. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it this far. On behalf of everyone, thank you,” Shangguan Xi Wei said sincerely. She sat down beside him, her bright eyes shining like stars in the dim light of the night.
She was keenly aware of how much had changed since Su Yi entered the Ancient Spirit Village. Without his help, they would have been lost, unsure of how to move forward. Their successful relocation to Cang Lan City was entirely thanks to his efforts.
“It’s my responsibility,” Su Yi replied with a soft smile.
A lot had happened in this short time. They had faced countless dangers, but the rewards had been remarkable. Now, the Divine Demonic Sect was as much his responsibility as anyone else’s. Having obtained the Divine Demonic Ancient Verse and made a promise to the previous generation’s Lord Demon, Su Yi knew that this was his duty to see through to the end.
