Chapter 298: Beastly Ambush!
Su Yi reluctantly declined Da Bao and Xiao Ling’s request to accompany him, instructed the Golden Pythons to continue their meditation in the mysterious space, and then departed.
Upon returning to the Ancient Spirit Village, Su Yi found it oddly quiet – only a group of children remained.
“Brother Su Yi, the masters have gone to find a way to deal with the demon beasts!” a child informed him.
“Demon beasts!” Su Yi’s brows furrowed at this news.
Suddenly, he spotted Su Tian Que sneaking out of the dormitory.
“Su Tian Que,” Su Yi called out, sensing this fellow was up to no good.
“Oh, you’ve emerged from the room? Something serious has occurred here,” Su Tian Que responded with an embarrassed smile, shaking his head. He shuffled closer on his short legs, trembling slightly.
“What are you searching for?” Su Yi examined Su Tian Que’s body. Nothing could be concealed on this bald chicken’s frame. “Did you pilfer some food?”
“Stealing food? What could I steal? Those Hundred Fruit Wine and Spirit Medicines must be with Shangguan Xu,” he declared with an imposing expression.
Immediately realizing he had said too much, Su Tian Que hung his head and smiled at Su Yi. “I’m actually doing this for the people of the Ancient Spirit Village. If those demon beasts outside break in, we can’t let them destroy the Hundred Fruit Wine and Spirit Medicines.”
Su Yi could see through the pretense – this fellow was clearly searching for the wine and medicines.
“What’s the situation with these demon beasts?” Su Yi inquired.
Su Tian Que explained that several days ago, demon beasts had discovered people in this area and entered, but were driven away by Shangguan Xu, Xiong Liu, and Hu Bu. Since then, increasing numbers of demon beasts had gathered, blocking all exits.
“Those demon beasts intend to capture us all, waiting for a powerful beast to arrive,” Su Tian Que warned. “We should retreat while we can. If we delay too long, escape may become impossible.”
“Let me assess the situation first.” Su Yi’s brow furrowed, and his figure vanished instantly.
Having reached the Demonic Spirit Realm, Su Yi’s Hundred Transformations Step had gained another level of speed. Though his recent seclusion focused on cultivating Mighty Desolate Verse, Demonic Spirit Truth Interpretation, and Heavenly Tiger Art, he had made notable progress.
“Such speed!” Su Tian Que’s eyes widened in surprise as he watched Su Yi’s departure.
At the cloud-shrouded canyon entrance, members of the Hunting Tiger Tribe, Mighty Bear Tribe, and Ancient Spirit Village had gathered with grim expressions, prepared for battle.
Outside the canyon, massive beasts appeared dimly through the mist, their continuous roars echoing. Occasionally, flying demon beasts circled overhead, their gazes sharp and predatory.
The three elders – Shangguan Xu, Xiong Liu, and Hu Bu – wore grave expressions. Behind them stood Shangguan Xi Wei, Xiong Zhan, Hu Chi, and Xiong Lie, all appearing uneasy.
“Elders, what course should we take?” Shangguan Yan asked, gripping his sword tightly while watching the approaching demon beasts.
“Is Heaven determined to destroy the Divine Demonic Sect?” Shangguan Xu sighed. Even if the elders could escape, most were children with nowhere to flee.
“We must break through now, while we can. The demon beasts grow more numerous – escape may soon become impossible,” Elder Xiong Liu advised.
“Where could we possibly go?” Elder Hu Bu shook his head. Even if they managed to break free, they were still trapped in the Demon Woods.
“Brother Su Yi!” someone called out as Su Yi arrived hurriedly, causing a stir among the crowd.
“Master!” The Serene Void Brutal Heavenly Leopard bounded forward, its fierce eyes gleaming like moons, its scales shimming with dark light.
Shangguan Yan, Shangguan Ye, and Shangguan Xiu gathered around him with solemn expressions.
“What’s the current situation?” Su Yi surveyed the dense presence of demon beasts ahead, noting the powerful ones among them. He surmised they were likely waiting for an even stronger beast to arrive before attacking.
“More demon beasts keep appearing, and the elders have sensed a Demonic Void Realm beast approaching,” explained Shangguan Xiwi, her black hair elegantly coiled, her delicate face framed by a low-cut yellow dress.
“What should we do?” The younger members immediately approached Su Yi, having witnessed his previous defeat of a Yuan Xuan Realm python.
“What do these demon beasts seek?” Su Yi asked, noting their unusual gathering.
“This is the Demon Woods, their territory. Demons and humans are natural enemies – they simply wish to devour us,” Shangguan Yan explained, acknowledging the fragile peace that existed on Yao Luo Mountain.
Su Yi stepped forward, observing the shadows moving through the mist. In the outside world, such a gathering of demon beasts would likely face immediate hunting by human warriors.
“Three elders,” Su Yi greeted the Divine Demonic Sect’s leaders, whose presence had thus far prevented the beasts from attacking directly.
“The situation is indeed grave,” they responded in unison, nodding to Su Yi.
