Chapter 492
by 林方方Chapter 492 The Earthquake Is About to Begin
Tomorrow is the concert, and Toni Landor needs to do one final rehearsal.
But right now, the whole group has been blocked at the entrance by several security guards, unable to get into the concert venue.
“Why won’t you let us in?” Heathervey asked angrily, already sensing that something was off.
“The stadium is undergoing electrical maintenance. We’ve been notified that no one is allowed to enter.” The security guard said with a grin. Being surrounded by so many beautiful women, he felt great… like he had some kind of power over other people’s lives.
“Electrical maintenance? Why not do it at any other time, why pick right now?” Heathervey said heatedly, her chest heaving up and down, while the security guard across from her shot a lecherous glance.
“Orders from the higher-ups. I’m just a low-level guard, I can only follow orders. As for why the maintenance is happening or how long it’ll take, I have no idea.”
“Do you know there’s a concert here tomorrow?”
“Yeah, so what? You concert stars don’t pay my salary. Whoever pays me is who I listen to.”
The security guard said with a smug smile, “The guys and I are standing guard here today. Unless the higher-ups say otherwise, nobody gets in!”
Heathervey’s gaze sharpened slightly. She had already realized that the retaliation from those young masters in Huaxia had arrived.
Toni Landor sat in the car, watching the situation outside through the window the whole time, her pretty brow furrowing slightly.
Heathervey thought for a moment, then stepped into the car and said, “We’ve got a problem. We’re clearly being given a hard time.”
“Be more specific. Who exactly is giving us a hard time?”
“Probably a lot of people. Like the young master of the Qi family last night, the young master of the Yun family, and the senior executives of the event company.” Thinking about how badly Su Rui had beaten those people the night before, Heathervey couldn’t help but shake her head, a look of worry crossing her face.
Tomorrow was the concert. If by then these security guards were still blocking the stadium and not letting the audience in, the whole situation would blow up into something massive.
The concert had been hyped for nearly half a year. If they announced a cancellation now, it would cause incalculable damage to Toni Landor’s reputation in Huaxia. It might even be enough to permanently cripple her in the Huaxia market.
“I’ll contact the organizers now.” Heathervey started making calls.
As one call after another went out, her expression gradually grew darker.
“No one is handling things. The person directly in charge was… by Su Rui last night in the private room…” Heathervey stopped herself from finishing the sentence. Clearly, the organizers’ retaliation had come.
They were willing to lose several million rather than let the concert go on, just to save face in this matter.
“I never expected these Huaxia people to be so vindictive.” Heathervey’s eyes grew heavy. She had always been someone with a very strong sense of crisis, and whenever she ran into situations like this, it was never easy for her.
“Maybe we should give him a call.” Toni Landor hesitated for a moment. Their group had no connections in Huaxia, and now that the organizers had stabbed them in the back, contacting Su Rui was the only option.
With that man’s remarkable abilities, there seemed to be nothing he couldn’t solve.
“Alright.”
Heathervey could only think of this one solution, and began dialing Su Rui’s number.
But knowing she was about to see the great benefactor who had saved both her and her brother, her heavy mood seemed to lighten just a little.
Su Rui hadn’t gotten out of bed yet. He was lying down doing some flexibility exercises when he heard what Heathervey said over the phone, and his voice immediately took on a dark tone.
He hadn’t expected there to still be so many people who didn’t know what was good for them.
Yun Konglan had been beaten into a terrible state, and Qi Zhanji had been mauled by piranhas in a horrifying way. These people still wouldn’t settle down? Even methods like that hadn’t been enough to intimidate them?
Did he really have to step in and kill a few people to establish his authority?
“Wait at the stadium entrance. Leave this to me.”
After saying that, Su Rui hung up, quickly washed his face, and drove off from the Lin family villa.
While driving, Su Rui called Su Chiyan.
He had asked this woman to handle the aftermath, yet things had ended up like this. There were only two possibilities: either Su Chiyan hadn’t dealt with it carefully enough, or she had deliberately set Su Rui up behind his back.
As for the second possibility, Su Rui personally felt it was unlikely. It was mostly Su Chiyan’s negligence. If that was the case, then he’d just have her continue dealing with it.
But the phone kept ringing with no answer. Su Rui called several times in a row, and every time it was the same.
Su Chiyan hadn’t gotten out of bed either. She had taken the blame for Su Rui the night before, and had been busy dealing with Qi Zhanji, Yun Konglan, and the others until sunrise before finally going to bed. As for her phone, she had long since put it on silent and left it charging on the nightstand.
Su Chiyan was sleeping soundly when she suddenly had a vague sense that the door to her room had opened.
She lived in a duplex apartment, and she was the only one with a key to the whole place. The presence of an outsider naturally meant danger.
But Su Chiyan was just so exhausted. Even though she had a faint flicker of awareness, under the overwhelming weight of her drowsiness, that thread of alertness quickly faded away.
Her hair was spread across the pillow, her red lips slightly parted, her whole being in a hazy half-sleep. The usually alluring and captivating beauty, in her state of utter exhaustion, actually let slip a hint of adorable drowsiness.
Su Rui walked over and, seeing Su Chiyan sleeping so soundly, couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh and shake his head.
He wasn’t foolish enough to yank off Su Chiyan’s covers and give her a big surprise. In Su Rui’s view, anyone who woke people up that way was purely looking to take advantage. What if she wasn’t wearing anything under the covers?
The reason Su Rui sighed was that he had long heard that, despite Su Chiyan’s seemingly flirtatious appearance, she was an extremely self-disciplined woman at heart, holding herself to very high standards. Even on days off, she would never sleep in.
It was already nearly noon, and she still hadn’t gotten up. That alone said everything about how busy and exhausted she had been the night before.
Even so, Su Rui still had to steel himself and wake her up. When it came to the unexpected situation with Toni Landor’s concert, she was the most suitable person to handle it.
“Hey, wake up.” Su Rui patted Su Chiyan’s face.
“Don’t bother me.”
She mumbled groggily, rolled over, and exposed her snow-white shoulder to Su Rui.
But in the next few seconds, Su Chiyan suddenly shivered.
This was her own home. How could there be someone else talking beside her bed?
The shock jolted her almost instantly awake. She opened her eyes and saw a familiar face.
“Su Rui? What are you doing here?”
Su Chiyan quickly pulled the covers up over her chest.
“What’s there to cover up? I’ve not only seen it, I’ve touched it too.”
Su Rui seemed to be trying to put on the air of a proper gentleman who kept his eyes straight ahead, not realizing that his words had completely exposed his true nature as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Hearing him say that, Su Chiyan couldn’t help but think back to the first time the two of them had met, and what had happened in the cloakroom. Two rosy blushes instantly bloomed across her fair, delicate face.
But then Su Chiyan caught herself, remembering that Su Rui was still her uncle-in-law. The flush on her face vanished completely in an instant.
Su Rui had no idea what was going through Su Chiyan’s mind. He said, “I need your help again, which is why I came to find you.”
“Whatever urgent matter you have, this is my private space. Could you please knock next time before coming in?” Su Chiyan said with displeasure. Anyone would feel uncomfortable having someone barge into their bedroom like this.
Come to think of it, the two of them weren’t really friends in any true sense. Su Rui breaking in like this was indeed a bit much.
“I practically knocked the door down.” Su Rui said irritably. “Something’s come up again with Toni Landor. A few security guards are claiming the concert venue is undergoing electrical maintenance and no one is allowed in. I’m guessing it’s Qi Zhanji, Yun Konglan, and the others pulling strings again.”
“They couldn’t possibly be pulling strings.”
Hearing that the international superstar had run into new trouble, Su Chiyan said helplessly, “Whether it’s Qi Zhanji or Yun Konglan, they’re both lying in the hospital right now, completely out of it. There’s absolutely no way they’re behind this.”
“Then it’s the organizers who can’t swallow this and want to make things difficult for Toni Landor.”
“That’s not possible either. All the senior executives from Borei Entertainment who were there last night have been taken care of by me. How could they possibly be retaliating?”
“How can you be so sure the information hasn’t leaked out?”
“I can say with complete certainty. There’s no need to doubt that at all.” Su Chiyan’s words carried a strong sense of confidence.
“Then regardless of the reason, just hurry up and deal with it.”
“Why should I deal with it?” Su Chiyan said. “I’m not Toni Landor’s babysitter.”
“Because you’re already in too deep to back out.” Su Rui said with narrowed eyes. “Right now Qi Zhanji has been taken care of by you. If his mother, your aunt, finds out her son has been hurt this badly, won’t she come after you with everything she’s got?”
“He was hurt by you. It has nothing to do with me.” Having carried the blame from last night until now, Su Chiyan was worn out. She could have stayed out of it entirely, but had ended up being dragged in by this shameless Su Rui.
“But no one is going to believe you when you say that. By then, your Su family might end up with some internal friction over this, and I’ll just be watching from the sidelines.” Su Rui said shamelessly.
“Our Su family?” Hearing Su Rui’s words, Su Chiyan’s expression turned slightly odd, and she couldn’t help but think of a line from an old commercial — yours? No, it’s yours.
Our Su family? No, it’s your Su family.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing Su Chiyan’s expression, Su Rui was a little puzzled.
“Nothing. Let’s head out now.”
Looking at Su Rui, Su Chiyan let out a quiet sigh in her heart.
When it came to the Su family, who had more right to speak than you?
He and his adoptive father Su Wuxian were just too alike, too similar. Even their personalities were nearly the same — fearless, the kind who would be the first to step up and hold up the sky even if it came crashing down.
“Now that grandfather has personally revealed the answer to this mystery, the day you return to claim your rightful place in the family can’t be far off. The old man has been calculating his whole life. I wonder what kind of earthquake your return will set off in this country this time?”
