Chapter 599
by post_apiChapter 599: Infinite Mana
"You know nothing of the torment I endured for ten thousand years!"
Lehaiden roared furiously. She stood taller than most Doomguards but was thinner, her body covered in demonic tattoos that glowed with shadowy purple light when enraged.
Vereesa reacted first. Seeing Lehaiden break free from the Kaldorei shell and rapidly expand, she shot an Arcane-infused arrow. Yet the demon blocked it with her single wing within seconds. The arrow, capable of piercing a black dragon’s hide, deflected harmlessly off the frail-looking wing membrane in a burst of Arcane light!
A magic shield? This demon had magic shield protection!
After the wing deflected the arrow, Vereesa nocked another. Greed’s hammer flew next, trailing lightning that lit the dark hall. When it struck near the demon, an Arcane shield blocked it, showing no weakness even after absorbing such a heavy blow.
Beneath the shield, Lehaiden had already chanted half a demonic spell. Her voice echoed through the hall as shadowy orbs swirled between her claws.
"Shadow Bolt Volley!" Jesse shouted. "Take cover!"
At his warning, Vereesa and Greed dodged behind stone pillars. Mosa scrambled under a fallen column. Jesse stood exposed in the open, no time to flee, and hastily chanted the Dark Protection spell…
Lehaiden screamed, unleashing Dark Energy. Shadow bolts rained toward their hiding spots, several targeting Mosa. The first shattered his Dark Protection into a thin film. Though the explosion destroyed the second bolt, the third pierced the shield and struck Jesse.
His dim Mage Armor flashed eerie purple-green. When Shadow Power hit his Robe of the Void, the Mageweave runes glowed, deflecting some damage—yet dark force still seeped into his neck…
This demon was too powerful! Was this why Eldre’Thalas sent so many Kaldorei after ogres disrupted the magic array?
Other shadow bolts shattered crumbling pillars and rubble barriers, but the group escaped injury. Lehaiden, however, had already begun chanting another Shadow Bolt Volley.
She vented her rage, determined to obliterate them with brute-force magic. Jesse scanned for cover but froze as a Felhound charged from nowhere toward the demon.
Lehaiden glanced back just as the Felhound’s tendrils stabbed. When they touched her shield, the seemingly unbreakable barrier weakened instantly. Vereesa seized the chance, firing an Arcane arrow that pierced the shield toward her heart—but Lehaiden caught it midair.
She abandoned her spell, whirling to seize the Felhound’s tendrils. As she strained, her hands faltered. The Felhound wriggled free and darted away.
Lehaiden turned to see Jesse, who’d just cast Curse of Weakness, now chanting Curse of Agony. She extended a claw and muttered a spell. Jesse’s throat constricted—he couldn’t speak or breathe.
Panic and exhaustion from dodging left him gasping. The sudden chokehold made him dizzy within seconds.
He forced out the Unending Breath incantation, gulping air as if revived. Then a thick arm hauled him up and flung him behind a pillar. Greed, having summoned an Earthen avatar, charged the demon after tossing him aside.
Lehaiden finished her second Shadow Bolt Volley as Jesse struggled.
Greed raised his round shield, but the first bolt burned through it. The next two struck his chest, only to be stopped by his emerald shell armor. "I fucking knew it!" he bellowed.
Shadow bolts pounded Jesse’s pillar, nearly toppling it. A soothing natural breeze swept in, clearing his mind and easing the shadow corrosion.
The Tauren had been stealthily healing their magical wounds from behind cover, watching the hall’s center for attacks while staying hidden. Jesse recalled his old arena druid teammate.
The thought calmed him.
He crawled from the rubble as Greed leaped, axes swinging at the demon’s face.
She flapped her wing, dodging sideways, then chanted. Arcane light coiled around Greed, slowing his movements and even his furious shouts to drawn-out syllables.
Lehaiden smirked at the dwarf, relishing her spell’s effect.
That instant, Jesse finished his Shadow Bolt incantation and hurled it from his magic wand. Sensing the dark energy, she turned but didn’t dodge. The bolt hit her Arcane shield, spreading purple flames.
Her eyes tracked the burning magic, but the shield held.
Jesse chanted another Shadow Bolt. She smiled, reaching to interrupt him—until the Felhunter lunged from behind…
Its tendrils tore at her shield again. Lehaiden staggered, failing to counter. Jesse’s Shadow Bolt struck the barrier. Though it didn’t shatter, the shield visibly weakened!
Vereesa’s Arcane shot delivered the final blow, piercing it. As the shield broke, Lehaiden gripped the Felhunter’s tendrils and snapped one. Molofeel emerged behind her, driving a black blade into her back—but the demon turned too late.
The blade sank deep into her spine. Howling, she flung the Felhunter aside and swung a fel magic–burning claw at Molofeel!
The towering demon dwarfed the smaller, nimbler succubus. Molofeel dodged the swipe but stumbled when her dagger struck the Arcane shield on the demon’s lower back and rebounded.
Off-balance, Molofeel faced the demon’s lunge—until a blinding Arcane arrow exploded against the claw’s magic barrier, staggering Lehaiden.
Vereesa chanted afar, her arrow’s Arcane glow intensifying. Molofeel vanished into stealth. Lehaiden stood unmoved, shadow power rippling her fur—not an attack, but a purge that dissolved Jesse’s Curse of Weakness!
Vereesa’s enhanced Arcane shot blasted forward in a streak of light, only to be swallowed whole by the demon’s Arcane shield!
Jesse felt the shield had strengthened. How? Was her mana infinite?
Worse, her back wound from Molofeel’s strike healed rapidly under the shield. Demons could self-heal with arcane energy—Molofeel did—but this speed stunned him. What monster was she?
No, something was wrong. Why did a demon wield such potent Arcane power?
Caught off guard by her true nature, Jesse finally pondered this mid-battle.
Greed broke free and charged, hammer slamming the demon’s back. Arcane light flared, whitening the hall. Molofeel, still stealthed nearby, was flung meters back by the shockwave.
As the glare faded, the demon seized Greed’s arm.
Even this dwarf—empowered by an avatar—looked shocked. His skin crackled with Arcane energy, while her eyes shifted from fel magic to pure Arcane fire!
The magic tower.
The presence they’d sensed upon entering. If Vereesa was right, she was the victor who claimed it!
In the game, Eldre’Thalas’ ruler Tosadlin controlled Immol’thar’s power to become invincible. Had this demon mastered the tower here?
If not, how explain her limitless mana? But where was the tower? How destroy it?
Surviving this demon strained their entire team—how could they do more?
