Chapter 214
by fanqienovelChapter 214: Lord of the Light City
As a reincarnator, Midi had always amazed others with various surprises, shocks, and awe.
But this time, Midi found himself completely stunned.
He could barely believe his eyes.
The self-destruction he couldn’t stop had been prevented.
The immensely powerful "Wiseman of the Hand of Nightmare," one of Arad’s top experts, had been erased in an instant – wiped away without leaving even ash behind!
Who could possibly do such a thing?
Raising his wary gaze, Midi saw a figure emerging from the void like an ancient emperor claiming his throne.
The man stood over two meters tall, wearing pure golden armor. His patterned blue cloak snapped like a war banner in the fierce winds.
A ruthless golden mask hid his face, but his visible eyes blazed with cold blue flames that seemed ready to destroy everything they saw.
Wherever this cold-flame gaze fell – whether on Elves, Dragonkin, or humans – even the strongest warriors felt their hearts stutter.
Every movement from this masked giant radiated crushing pressure, making people instinctively bow as if facing a dragon’s wrath!
Lord Segarth of the Light City.
The name flashed through Midi’s mind instantly.
Cold sweat drenched his back.
In his past life, Midi hadn’t fought this lord directly, but every adventurer knew the terrifying stories.
This legendary being had slaughtered three thousand Delos Empire elites in Sky City overnight, killing two famously powerful Generals. The Empire finally trapped him using magic veins from the Sea of Three Towers through their magical formations.
Without Lord Segarth destroying those formations, Midi’s awakening might have been delayed for years.
Later, Midi learned the lord hadn’t even been at full power then – awakened early from slumber in the Seventeen Halls of Azure Rock, he’d still crushed the Empire’s best troops.
How strong would he be now, fully awake and prepared?
Midi couldn’t imagine.
History had changed again. The lord wasn’t waiting in his halls but had come to the Floating City. Worse, against this first-awakening expert at his peak, Midi’s forces stood no chance – not alone, not with Vanguard ships, not even with all fortifications and troops.
This wasn’t like fighting Wiseman’s army. Against Earthly stone bombs, both sides had offensive trump cards with weak defenses – victory required attacking first regardless of casualties.
But against Lord Segarth? No tactics would work. Not Vanguard ships, Earthly bombs, nor Belmar and Delos alchemy techniques combined could touch him.
If Midi could dodge an attack, how could they hurt Lord Segarth?
They were moths flying at a inferno.
Only one choice remained.
"Run! Flee Sky City now!"
Midi’s desperate order roared through magical communications to every surviving Hawk Brigade warrior under the crushing pressure from above.
Upon hearing the command, everyone froze in disbelief, many wondering if they’d misheard.
Not defense, not retreat, but… "run away"?
Was this truly a military order?
And coming from that genius commander – the undefeated legendary Demon Swordman Belmar, wielder of the Sword of Victory and Guardian?
Though the fiery-eyed enemy seemed formidable, he was just one man against a full army with air superiority. The Hawk Brigade still basked in their victory over the Delos Empire and elimination of the famously powerful "Hand of Nightmare". Unaware Lord of the Light City had slain Wiseman, they believed their commander’s ultimate technique achieved this, making "run away" unthinkable.
Yet Midi’s authority ran deep in the Hawk Brigade warriors’ hearts. Even the Dragonkin warriors respected this young commander. Though confused, many instinctively moved after brief hesitation.
Running away sounded shameful, but they’d trusted Midi with their lives against Earthly stone bombs. What was fleeing now? So the elites reasoned.
Within seconds, quickest responders began orderly retreat from fortifications with mutual cover. Vanguard ships arced through air, swiftly forming energy-efficient V-formations to withdraw.
But this orderly withdrawal filled Midi with dread. This wasn’t the desperate escape he demanded! At this pace, they’d never evade the Lord of Light City’s attack!
The golden-masked man instantly recognized Midi’s plan. "Insignificant ants dare scheme before me?" boomed Lord Segarth of the Light City. "This is Sky City – Lord Bacal’s sanctum! Intruders should kneel to die!" He raised his right hand.
Starlight converged at his fingertip, erupting into a blinding white beam that outshone the sun. The deadly light swept across half the sky like the Grim Reaper’s scythe, leaving explosive pearls of destruction in its wake.
Twenty-one Vanguard ships and pilots vanished instantly.
Only then did warriors understand their commander’s urgency and the golden adversary’s true power.
"Run! Now! Scatter!" Midi roared through gritted teeth. Using the Ghost Cry skill’s Demon Shadow Flash – meant for pursuit – he teleported to his Vanguard ship. Every second mattered against this foe.
His ship soared like white silk, firing secret silver rounds at the moon-cold lord. The bullets froze midair against an invisible barrier before evaporating. Midi didn’t care – he’d already turned ship toward Star Mountain, fleeing like shooting star.
A blatant provocation. Midi knew Segarth would recognize the bait. But the arrogant lord who saw all as ants wouldn’t avoid challenges. Ants’ schemes meant nothing. By proving himself unique, Midi gambled the awakened peak expert would personally pursue – using himself as bait to save the Hawk Brigade.
This was Midi’s choice.
