    Chapter 512: Severing an Arm

    Misunderstanding?

How could this possibly be a misunderstanding?

The Water Spider’s Great Warrior immediately sensed something wrong.

He couldn’t comprehend why this elder – who moments ago radiated killing intent – now wore such a friendly smile and spoke with earnest sincerity upon meeting Midi.

Why would a level 67 expert need to explain himself to a level 64 human newcomer who’d only been in Mososbury City for two months?

Since when did the notoriously domineering Death Scorpion family bother justifying their actions to anyone?

Even more confusing was Midi’s aggressive attitude toward the elder.

    What exactly was happening?

As the Great Warrior’s mind flooded with questions, Midi snorted coldly.

"Misunderstanding? Then explain why Death Scorpion members just happened to appear here."

"We…we have business ties with the Blue Serpent," the elder stammered, wiping sweat from his brow.

"Interesting," Midi pressed, glancing mockingly at the Great Warrior. "Then why did Water Spider – a Death Scorpion subsidiary – attack Wolf Spider and me? Are you claiming Death Scorpion ordered this?"

The question was rhetorical. Everyone knew Water Spider’s assault on Wolf Spider with Blue Serpent’s help had Death Scorpion’s fingerprints all over it.

But Midi lacked the strength to directly confront Death Scorpion yet. Such schemes rarely left concrete evidence – without written orders, the family could easily deny involvement.

Midi never planned to pursue Death Scorpion directly. He simply wanted them to pay – through their proxies.

Water Spider and Blue Serpent would be the cost. By destroying both subordinate tribes, he’d sever Death Scorpion’s claws. If the family accepted this loss, the matter would end here.

If they resisted, Midi would drag them before the city council. The Death Scorpion’s rivals would gladly watch the family bleed in such disputes.

The Death Scorpion elder understood perfectly. Arriving too late had let Midi seize the initiative. Had he come later, evidence would’ve been harder to obtain. But arriving mid-purge left him trapped.

One wrong word, and the family head would sacrifice him to avoid scandal. Worse, his opponent was Midi Asreks – Mososbury’s most ruthless fighter.

This was the man who’d crippled Dakhni of Flame Serpent in Crystal Dragon Fortress, slaughtered Simon and Cort of Two-Headed Warwolf without mercy, and even defied Thor, the level 67 "Warrior".

Although this elder was also Level 67, he had no epic equipment or powerful bloodline, and he knew exactly how limited his combat strength was.

If Midi became displeased, the elder might not even get the chance to return to the Death Scorpion family to beg forgiveness—he could die right in this damned Blue Serpent cave!

As Midi’s gaze turned icy, his lips quirking in a faint smirk while Dragon Flames surged around him, the elder’s heartbeat raced.

    He needed to save himself!

The elder’s eyes immediately snapped toward the Great Warrior who’d caused this disaster.

"Mr. Midi, the Water Spider Tribe is indeed under Death Scorpion’s command. But even subordinates sometimes disobey orders—surely you understand," the elder blurted, steeling his resolve. "Of course, since they’ve rebelled, Death Scorpion will naturally offer an explanation!"

"Oh?" Midi’s smile widened. "What explanation does the elder propose?"

The elder answered not with words, but action.

His strike didn’t target Midi. Instead, it smashed onto the Water Spider Great Warrior’s skull.

Caught off guard, the Great Warrior died instantly, blood gushing from every orifice.

"How’s this explanation?" The elder swallowed, refusing to glance at the corpse as he stared at Midi.

    Midi shook his head. "Insufficient."

"Insufficient?" Bitter taste flooded the elder’s mouth.

He’d killed the man himself, representing Death Scorpion’s authority! Yet this human still demanded more?

"The Water Spider and Blue Serpent’s harassment of Wolfspider Tribe lasted months—far beyond what a few warriors could orchestrate. This was the tribes’ collective doing," Midi stated coldly. "Thus, both tribes must bear the consequences."

"Mr. Midi… you mean…" The elder’s heart clenched.

"Exactly. Both tribes must be eradicated," Midi said flatly. "I’ve already disposed of Blue Serpent Tribe. No need for your involvement there. But Water Spider…"

Midi trailed off, but the elder understood.

Death Scorpion must resolve this themselves—thoroughly—or Midi might intervene again.

This matter exceeded an elder’s authority. Only the family head could decide.

"Three days. Death Scorpion will deliver results regarding Water Spider’s misconduct. Otherwise, I’ll handle it personally." Midi waved dismissively.

The Death Scorpion elder spun around and fled without another word, terrified Midi might reconsider and kill him.

Let the family head deal with the Water Spider mess.

After all, Simon had provoked Wolfspider Tribe on a whim. Now that Simon was dead, his father would shoulder the blame.

"Will Death Scorpion’s family head really annihilate Water Spider Tribe?" Master Hawke asked as the elder retreated. Detaining the elder as evidence for the city council seemed wiser.

Midi chuckled. "He’ll agree. Otherwise, I’ll destroy Water Spider myself—then target their sole Black Dragon warrior, Alexis. What choice does he have?"

Sacrificing a subordinate tribe would tarnish Death Scorpion’s reputation. But faced with losing Alexis or a minor tribe, any family head would pick the Black Dragon warrior.

Thus, Death Scorpion would amputate its own limb.

In return, Midi wouldn’t touch Alexis unless provoked.

    Such was their transaction.

On Arad, such deals hid beneath layers of pretense. In the Shaded Realm, they lay bare—survival of the strongest.

But both realms shared the same truth: the weak existed to be sacrificed for the strong.

    Power ruled all.

"Let’s go. No one will trouble Wolfspider Tribe now." Midi turned to leave.

Wolfspider’s warriors watched silently, awestruck. Initially thrilled by Midi’s arrival, then emboldened by his power—now they were speechless.

Death Scorpion, one of Mososbury City’s four major families, could crush Wolfspider with a single order. Yet before Midi, they’d groveled, forced to obliterate their own Water Spider proteges!

What had happened during Midi’s two months with Death Scorpion?

"I never imagined you’d rise so high… when you were once my… servant," Galantis murmured, avoiding the word "slave," her gaze conflicted.

Midi knew her words held no malice—just bewildered nostalgia. He even detected sorrow in her eyes.

    "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing." She shook her head. "It’s just… after two months apart, you feel distant."

"Nothing’s changed. Status means nothing—I’m still me." Midi smiled, tousling her silver hair.
