Chapter 591
by post_apiChapter 591: The Arena
The arena was bustling with activity, not only Ogres but also many other groups like Quilboar, Gnoll, goblins, humans from unknown places, dwarves who looked like they belonged to the Bronzebeard tribe, and even two Tauren.
They gathered in small groups, some standing and chatting, some strolling along the corridors, some hiding in a corner observing the whole arena like Jesse.
"Gnolls are everywhere." Greed squinted and said, "I can handle the Bronzebeard, but I never expected to come across Gnolls here."
Mosa had no interest in the two Tauren, didn’t want to talk to them, didn’t even want to look at them, and the two Tauren also seemed indifferent to their new companions in the arena.
The two Tauren had dark fur, wore heavy fur armor, carried huge axes and swords, looking completely different from the peaceful Tauren at Sun Rock Retreat.
Jesse guessed that these could be Tauren from the Grimtotem tribe, who had some unpleasant history with Mosa’s Woodmane tribe.
However, it can be said that the Tauren from the Grimtotem tribe have tense relationships with most other Tauren tribes.
Even for Tauren from other tribes, it’s normal for Mosa not to want to talk to them.
Jesse saw a few humans along the aisle wall, they were all dressed in simple armor like bandits or thieves, looking like pirates or wanderers here to make money. Just by looking at their appearance, Jesse didn’t want to have anything to do with them.
Not far away, an Ogrewarlock was sitting against the wall as if napping, while on the other side, an Orc in a dark red cloak had a succubus sitting beside them.
When the succubus saw Jesse, she immediately stood up and stared intensely, but Molofeel didn’t care about her at all.
Jesse used Detect Demon to scan the entire square. Besides the succubus, there was also a blurry shadow of an imp in the distance. In short, this wasn’t a place filled with demons, but the air was filled with their presence.
Even he could smell it, let alone Molofeel.
Several people crossed the arena-like outer wall and arrived at the center of the square where they saw the edge of a large oval pit. The arena was quite beautifully constructed, with walls and arched doorways in and out below all in elven style, hardly modified by the Ogres.
Before the Ogres came here, this place must have been a leisure spot for the nobles of Eldre’Thalas.
When Jesse approached the stone walls, he smelled a very unpleasant odor. Looking down into the giant pit, he saw dark bloodstains and messy scratches covering the floor.
Two Ogres were fighting inside, tumbling around in a brawl. It seemed like a regular conflict, not a competition. Apart from Jesse’s group, no one in the square seemed interested in watching the clumsy fight.
Vereesa sounded slightly disappointed as she remarked, "This Eldre’Thalas is not quite like I imagined. Before coming to Kalimdor, I heard Eldre’Thalas was one of the greatest cities of the ancient Kaldorei Empire, like the stars and moons in the night sky alongside Ursula Mar in the north… But it’s been destroyed by remnants of the Horde, filled with broken, smelly tents and fences. A group of barbaric bloodthirsty monsters have claimed this place as their own home."
"If it was just like those completely collapsed ruins outside, that would be one thing," she mused, looking up at the towering walls and Kaldorei spires. "But… here it stands as it did ten thousand years ago, the contrast is heartbreaking."
"My father would understand how you feel, elf," Greed said. "When he witnessed those black creatures in dwarf skins invading the great city of Grim Batol, defiling that magnificent artwork with their dirty Black Magic, he must have felt as sad as you do."
Jesse reminded them, "Don’t forget what the guide Ogre named Kulak mentioned. There are still Highborne here, not all of them have been killed. We’ve been brought in as gladiators, now we need to figure out how to go deeper, find the prison where the Doomguard is trapped."
"Are you saying we should go ask an elf?" Greed asked.
Pointing to the tall towers behind the wall across the square, Jesse said, "Do we really have to search every corner of such a big city?"
"I don’t really feel like talking to another group of ancient beings who have lived for thousands of years," Greed sighed heavily. "I felt a lot of pressure in front of that sentry general earlier."
"Don’t forget about the armor that the general gave you, Greed," Jesse said.
"That’s true," Greed replied. "But I still think it’s better to ask these Ogres first to see what they know. After all, they’ve been living here for a few years, surely they know something…"
Jesse was looking at Greed as he spoke when suddenly a small Ogre appeared behind them, sneaking up quietly behind the chatty dwarf.
The Ogre made a "shh" gesture to the humans, elves, and Tauren staring at him, then gently took off the demon helmet from Greed’s head and put it on his own.
It fit perfectly!
Greed turned around in shock as the Ogre giggled and tried to run away. Greed quickly grabbed his belt, lifted him up, and punched the helmet on his head.
With a loud clang, the Ogre sat on the ground, holding his head and groaning. Greed took the helmet back and put it on himself again, then kicked the Ogre on the forehead, knocking him down motionless.
"Is he dead?" Vereesa asked.
Greed walked over, looked at the Ogre, who took a deep breath, puffed up his belly, then exhaled, lips buzzing like he was falling asleep.
"What’s going on here?!" Greed turned around and asked with wide eyes.
"It’s the legendary Ogre thieves." Jesse chuckled leaning on the railing, "Are you still planning to ask these Ogres about the demon prison?"
Greed raised an eyebrow and said, "Why don’t we ask the Ogre where the elves are hiding?"
Vereesa said, "Have you forgotten, we are gladiators. A group of gladiators coming here asking about demons or the whereabouts of other elves could raise suspicion, don’t you think, Greed?"
"What’s wrong with asking out of curiosity?" Greed replied, "Especially as an elf from another continent, isn’t it normal to be curious about your homeland?"
"This is not my homeland…" Vereesa corrected.
Asking the Ogre is indeed feasible. If the Satyrs have not yet entered Eldre’Thalas, it means the eastern district might still be under the control of this goblin. The condition of other districts cannot be fully evaluated just by the game’s situation, but Vereesa’s concern is valid.
Jesse glanced at the Ogres in the distance, several guards were observing the entire square from the east. There was even a two-headed Ogremage standing on a high platform in the distance.
"Let’s go ask those guards over there," Jesse suggested. "The two-headed ones might be a bit smarter and notice something, as Vereesa mentioned."
Vereesa nodded, and Greed also agreed.
They went around the middle arena and arrived at the east. The ranger suddenly stared at a tightly closed giant wooden door to the east and said, "I can feel it… the magical clue we are looking for is inside there, Jesse."
