Chapter 565
by post_apiChapter 565: The Goddess’s Invitation
Theradras took a step down, using one arm to support herself against the cave wall, and then released one arm to grab onto a protruding edge of a nearby cliff. She let go of the other two arms holding onto the wall and directly clung to one side of the cliff.
It wasn’t a smooth climb, more like a crash which caused the crater to shake again.
Jesse noticed that when Theradras’s hand left the wall, the overgrown plants quickly withered, and broken branches and shattered leaves fell like rain.
These plants aren’t completely withered. They are still much healthier than when Jesse first came in, just a little further away from the Element Princess, causing a strong reaction.
Some people didn’t dare to move, as Theradras descended in height, Vereesa was almost covered halfway by the wildly growing vines next to her, and Jesse’s legs were completely entangled.
On the other side, Mosa and Greed weren’t faring any better. A bush next to them had already covered them and even the nearby rocks. But should this be considered a good thing? After all, it provides better concealment.
But Theradras, can she really be seen with the naked eye? She doesn’t have a physical body at all.
After leaning against the stone wall, Theradras seemed to stop moving, enveloping the entire space in an unsettling silence.
Jesse shifted her eyes towards the bushes opposite her, where Greed’s eyes glanced upwards, then sideways towards the tunnel behind Jesse.
The group exchanged glances. The dwarf slowly crouched down, freeing himself from the surrounding bushes, slowly moving towards the cave opening, with Mosa stealthily following his footsteps on the lower ground, until they reached the side of the other two, without causing any commotion above them.
After the dwarf and Tauren moved a bit, Jesse and Vereesa also freed themselves from the entwined plants and followed them.
The power emanating from Theradras not only made people feel the intensity of life and endless resilience… but also revealed chaos, disorder, and madness.
Under the twisted power of life force, the bushes and weeds around were stretching upwards, trying to reach the high Theradras but they were too far away. Unable to draw power from the expanding plants around her, they were like young birds crying for help but getting nothing, standing tall and rubbing against each other, making a soft rustling noise.
But it was because of the tall plants and faint noises that Jesse and the group were able to hide themselves.
Just as they were about to reach a sprint to enter the cave, a huge rock slowly descended from above, blocking the entire cave.
Greed at the front lifted his head, gazing at the stone that fell inexplicably from somewhere.
Overgrown with grass and tree roots, the high stone slowly moved aside, revealing a faint yellow breath of life from the cracks.
It was a Mountain Giant!
He sat there crouched by the stone wall even before opening his eyes, blending in like a part of the wall, indistinguishable!
At that moment, other rocks in the sinkhole also started to move, stretching out and standing upright, their eyes in the rock crevices looking down at Jesse and the others who were now blocked.
Greed gripped the stone axe behind him, Vereesa kept an eye on the high Theradras, Mosa watched the movements of the Mountain Giants around, but Jesse knew that fighting back in this situation was a dead end.
"D……..t……..d……..s……"
The Mountain Giant in front spoke a language that no one understood. The other Mountain Giants above also seemed to be having a conversation in some unknown language.
"B……..d……..t……"
At that moment, a different voice spoke up.
From high above, Theradras opened her mouth, releasing a powerful surge of life energy spreading outward from her huge mouth.
After saying a few words, she fell silent. Jesse guessed that it was the language of Kalimdor, used by the elements to communicate, the same language used when Greed called forth lightning.
"Outsiders." Theradras unexpectedly spoke in a common language.
Her voice sounded like rocks grinding together, mixed with the subtle noise of a mature woman speaking softly.
"Forever, protect, Terramok, soul, Zaetar, stay, accompany, infinite… life, gift, mother."
Even though Theradras was talking in a jumbled way, Jesse and the others immediately understood what she meant.
This is also why the Mountain Giants did not attack right away.
Theradras wanted to bring more people here to help her protect Zaetar’s spirit. In return, she would… The last sentence, did the Stone Element Princess talking about eternal life?
Living here, with the powerful life force, Jesse had no doubt that Theradras could help them live for a very long time.
Jesse thought that the beasts living here might have all accepted Theradras’s invitation to become Guardians, like Snapjaw, Diemetradon, and the huge hydra.
There were even the Satyrs.
But to Theradras, they were all like pets, including Vyletongue.
Staying here was like being in prison, no different from a life sentence. Jesse could not accept that. What would happen to his house in Stormwind? What about his parents?
Greed, who couldn’t stand any form of restriction, would never agree. Vereesa had enough to deal with and many responsibilities in Quel’Thalas. And Mosa hated the ugly monster in front of her and could not accept the deal.
Jesse only glanced at them and could tell they weren’t taking Theradras’ suggestion seriously, but instead, like him, were trying to figure out how to escape from this place…
"Sorry." Greed raised his head and shouted, "Madam, no, Your Highness! I want to say, we mean no harm, we came here just for adventure and foolishly offended Your Highness’s territory…"
The dwarf’s voice echoed in the crater, with many Mountain Giants staring at him, giving no response.
"We do not wish to harm the soul of Demigod’s son Zaetar, Princess," Jesse said immediately. "We do not want to disturb the peace here."
"That Wavethrashing… was also only a retaliatory move made in an emergency situation," Vereesa added immediately.
Greed looked at Vereesa, smiled, and said, "Your Highness, we will leave here immediately, ensuring no further impact."
Theradras spoke slowly, uttering only one word. "Death."
