A *thud* echoed through the air as the sword sliced through the darkness. Blood spurted out, splattering across Ye Wushuang’s face.

In the dim light, a massive python, three zhang in length and as thick as a thigh, coiled menacingly. Its forked tongue flicked out, and its eyes glinted with a chilling malevolence as it stared at Ye Wushuang.

“A first-tier spirit beast— the Azure-Striped Snake!” he muttered.

The Azure-Striped Snake was a formidable creature, easily matching the prowess of a martial artist at the ninth level of the Refining Body realm. Its venomous fangs were deadly, and its scales were as tough as iron. The sweeping force of its tail was equally devastating. Even a warrior at the eighth level would be crippled or killed if bitten or struck by its tail.

At that moment, the snake’s body coiled tightly, and its eyes seemed to regard Ye Wushuang with a strange curiosity. This human youth, who should have been an easy meal, had evaded its ambush.

“If it had been an ordinary warrior at the sixth level of the Refining Body realm, he would have been dead. But you crossed paths with me,” Ye Wushuang said, his voice steady.

With a flash of his sword, a terrifying aura burst forth from him. Despite being at the sixth level, his explosive power rivaled that of an eighth-level warrior. Coupled with the domineering nature of the Nine Heavens Sword Technique, the sword strike he unleashed sent a beam of sword energy slicing through the air, aiming straight for the snake.

However, the Azure-Striped Snake was incredibly agile. It leaped into the air, and its tail lashed out toward Ye Wushuang.

*Boom*!

The collision between the sword energy and the snake’s tail produced a thunderous noise, and a powerful shockwave radiated outward, causing the withered leaves around them to swirl violently in the air.

The snake, sensing that this young opponent was no pushover, tensed its muscles, its forked tongue flicking out in a display of readiness.

*Whoosh*!

Suddenly, the snake’s speed increased dramatically as it charged at Ye Wushuang, its massive maw open wide, exhaling a foul breath that was disorienting to behold.

Ye Wushuang immediately held his breath, but his sword, the Tianya Sword, did not falter.

“Sky-Piercing Sword!”

With a single strike, a sword energy erupted from the blade as Ye Wushuang lunged forward into the fray.

The battle between man and beast raged on within the forest, the wind howling and the ground trembling beneath their clash.

“Sword Shattering the Nine Heavens!”

In a sudden, decisive move, Ye Wushuang’s sword pierced the snake’s tail. The Azure-Striped Snake let out a pained hiss, writhing in agony as it tried to break free. But Ye Wushuang was relentless.

“Spirit Tiger Slash!”

A powerful punch landed squarely on the snake’s tail, causing it to crack and blood to spurt out. The snake’s agonized scream was almost eerie as it thrashed about, but Ye Wushuang pressed his advantage, dodging the snake’s massive body and aiming his sword at its head.

Strike after strike, Ye Wushuang’s relentless assault continued until finally, the snake’s head was reduced to a bloody pulp, and it collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

Exhausted, Ye Wushuang sat down on the ground, catching his breath. The Azure-Striped Snake, which had matched the strength of a ninth-level warrior, had been a formidable opponent.

But the battle had left him with a renewed sense of purpose.

After a brief rest, he extracted the snake’s fangs and skinned it. Then, he made his way out of the forest to a nearby stream.

He cleaned the snake’s fangs and skin, then stripped off his own clothes to wash them in the water.

At that moment, the sound of the stream, which had been a gentle babble, suddenly changed.

Through the water, Ye Wushuang could faintly see something floating and sinking—what appeared to be a corpse.

He tightened his grip on the Tianya Sword and approached cautiously. To his surprise, there were three corpses floating in the stream, each bearing terrible wounds and clearly dead for some time.

His brow furrowed in suspicion. These corpses belonged to warriors who were no pushovers—likely at the ninth level of the Refining Body realm. This place was no longer safe.

He turned to leave, but before he could take a step, the water parted, and a figure lunged straight at Ye Wushuang…
