Meanwhile, on the other side, Liu Yuemei, accompanied by her two children, walked slowly, heading back towards the Ye residence.

“Feifei, does it hurt?” Ye Wushuang asked, looking at his sister’s swollen, red cheek with concern.

“I’m not in pain!” Despite her young age, Ye Feifei was very sensible. She smiled and said, “Big brother is in more pain than me, and he doesn’t cry. Feifei won’t cry either!”

Ye Wushuang smiled and said, “That’s right, don’t cry! What’s there to cry about? Even death is nothing to fear!”

Listening to the conversation between her children, Liu Yuemei felt a mix of emotions welling up inside her, and she forcibly held back her tears. The Ye family had once been glorious, but now they had fallen completely from grace. Their current residence was located in a remote part of the western section of Liuyue City.

Upon entering through the main gate, one could see the courtyard, the living room, and the backyard. The home was utterly destitute, with nothing but bare walls.

As soon as the three of them entered the courtyard, a man in his thirties, pale and emaciated, leaning on a crutch, emerged from the doorway of the living room.

“How did it go, sister-in-law?” The man’s voice was faint, as if he had been suffering from a long illness, yet he still asked urgently.

Liu Yuemei shook her head silently.

The frail man clenched his fists slightly. Seeing the blood on his sister-in-law’s forehead and noticing that Ye Wushuang and Ye Feifei had returned as well, he already understood the situation. But even so, there was nothing he could do!

The Ye family had reached this point in his generation. His elder brother, Ye Qingshan, had died suddenly at the age of forty. And he, Ye Qingfeng, was already thirty-eight years old—death seemed not far away.

The men of the Ye family never lived past forty. It was as if a curse had been imprinted on every generation of the Ye clan.

“Uncle, it’s okay!” Ye Wushuang smiled and said, “I’m still alive, aren’t I? As long as we’re all together, that’s the best thing!”

Hearing this, Ye Qingfeng’s expression turned sorrowful, and he was left speechless. The family was together! Yes, but under these circumstances, how much longer could they stay together?

At that moment, Ye Feifei sensibly changed the subject: “Mom, I’m hungry. Let’s make some food.”

“I’m a bit hungry too…” Ye Wushuang added. “Where’s Uncle He?”

“I’m here, young master!” An old man with one blind eye and a head full of white hair slowly emerged from the side room.

“Uncle He, please fetch some water to the backyard for me. I need to wash up,” Ye Wushuang said with a smile.

“Yes, sir!”

Uncle He had been a servant in the Ye family for many years. The family had long since fallen into decline and could no longer afford any servants or maids. Yet Uncle He remained loyal, staying with Ye Qingfeng, Liu Yuemei, Ye Wushuang, and Ye Feifei as if they were one family, guarding their fragile and tattered home.

Seeing his young master, whom he had watched grow up, now so sensible, diligent, and kind-hearted, yet in such a dire state, Uncle He turned away and quietly wiped away his tears before hurrying off to fetch the water.

……

In the backyard of the Ye residence, Ye Wushuang stood in the courtyard, gradually removing his bloodstained clothes piece by piece. There was not a single unharmed spot on his body; his flesh was torn open, and even his white bones were exposed.

Yet, despite all this, he still stood up!

Ye Wushuang refused the help of Uncle He and his sister, standing alone in the courtyard, gently wiping his battered wounds with a cloth.

His hands and feet had been shattered, and his vital meridians had been destroyed. He knew he wouldn’t survive. Even if Master Mo Chuan were to intervene, he would most likely still die. How could the Yun family possibly let him live after what they had done?
