As Ye Wushuang’s words fell, a hint of confusion flickered in the eyes of the Eight-Winged Red Smelting Python.
“Chi Yuan, is Chi Xuan alright?”
When Ye Wushuang uttered these words, the massive body of the Eight-Winged Red Smelting Python began to tremble uncontrollably. Within and outside the valley, a fierce gale roared incessantly. The storm grew increasingly violent, threatening to engulf the surrounding area for dozens of miles. Even Li Changqing, Tang Chuyi, Chu Hongtian, and others outside the valley were forced to retreat several miles to avoid the devastating force of the wind.
Standing at the edge of the hurricane, several miles away from the valley, the group barely managed to steady themselves.
“What’s wrong with the Red Python?” Tang Chuyi asked, his face turning pale. “Why did it suddenly appear here, and why is it so agitated?”
Beside him, Chu Hongtian snorted coldly, “Since the founding of the Qingyun Academy, only the first-generation dean, with his extraordinary wisdom and strategy, managed to subdue the two Red Pythons. Since then, no one has dared to provoke them.”
“Ye Wushuang is reckless. He didn’t even bow to the Red Python and dared to approach it so brazenly. He must have angered it.”
“Perhaps the Red Python is so furious that it’s ready to devour this young whippersnapper,” Chu Hongtian added.
Tang Chuyi sneered back, “Chu Hongtian, if you don’t speak, no one will think you’re a mute. Do you want me to report the events of this Lingyun Mountain trial to the dean and see how he deals with your Chu clan’s elder mentors in the Qingyun Academy?”
Chu Hongtian humphed but said nothing. He truly hoped the Red Python would kill Ye Wushuang, but he was also worried that if Ye Wushuang was killed, the treasures on his body would be out of reach. He dared not ask the Red Python for Ye Wushuang’s corpse.
Within the Qingyun Academy, both the Heavenly Dean and the Inner Dean were well aware of one thing: the two Red Pythons were like totems and guardians of the academy, and no one could afford to offend them, not even the dean.
Tang Chuyi turned to Wang Xueqi, Xiao Yuan, and Qing Chengtian, whom he had brought along, and asked, “Do any of you know what’s going on? How did Ye Wushuang get involved with the Red Python?”
The three were bewildered by the question. Red Python? Was it the Eight-Winged Red Smelting Python they had just seen? They had never met it before and had no idea what the relationship was between Ye Wushuang and the Red Python.
Around the valley, the gale howled, and debris was swept up in the storm, creating a scene of utter chaos. Yet inside the valley, the air was eerily calm and still.
Li Changqing, Tang Chuyi, and Chu Hongtian, who had referred to the creature as the Red Python, now stared intently at Ye Wushuang.
“Are you truly… Ye Wentian?” a telepathic message echoed in Ye Wushuang’s mind.
“It’s me!” Ye Wushuang smiled and replied, “It seems you haven’t forgotten me.”
“Chi Tian told me that a young man, claiming to be Ye Wentian, had arrived, so I came to see for myself…” the Red Python’s telepathic voice continued.
“Chi Tian? That little rascal?” Ye Wushuang looked at the mischievous creature jumping around on the Red Python’s brow and laughed, “I think it suits the name ‘Little Miser’ better.”
At that moment, the Red Python pressed on, “How can you prove that you are Ye Wentian?”
It could not simply trust Ye Wushuang’s claim just because he said so. Although its name was indeed Chi Yuan, a name bestowed upon it by the former Ye Wentian, that alone was not enough to confirm Ye Wushuang’s identity as Ye Wentian.
