  As the scream faded.
The dozen or so people standing in place immediately scattered, their eyes wary as they scanned their surroundings.
  ”Young Master, it’s Xuanze!”
A disciple of the Xuan family spoke up: “Xuanze… his head is gone…”
Everyone looked over and saw that one of the Xuan family disciples who had followed Xuan Yutang now had his head sent flying, his corpse collapsed on the ground, blood gushing uncontrollably.
  Xuan Yutang’s expression darkened.
  And the next moment.
Around the group, blood-red pearls rose one after another, then exploded, transforming into clouds of blood mist. The mist writhed and took shape, forming figures clad in blood armor and wielding crimson blades.
  ”Here they come again!”
Huang Yu’s face turned grim at the sight.
Earlier, the massive mushroom-shaped blood cloud in the sky had dripped blood mist, giving birth to blood beasts and blood-human hybrids.
Now these blood-red pearls had transformed into blood-human hybrids once more.
Dozens of blood-colored figures, without hesitation, raised their blades and charged at the group.
Ye Wushuang wasted no words, gripping his sword and lunging forward.
Zhou Yuan also didn’t hesitate, summoning the Tianyuan Sacred Cauldron, which emitted radiant glows to shield himself.
Huang Yu didn’t retreat either, instead charging straight into battle.
The slaughter began, instantly turning into a brutal and bloody scene.
These blood-armored warriors were at least at the early stage of the Star-Plucking Realm.
The people brought by Xuan Yutang and Pei Wenjie also included a few Star-Plucking Realm experts, but most were at the Delusion Realm. Within just a few exchanges, five or six had already been killed or injured.
  ”Fall back!”
  Xuan Yutang shouted.
Although opportunities were important, the men by his side were all trusted aides. Dying here wasn’t worth it.
  ”We can’t retreat anymore!”
A warrior from the Xuan family yelled, “Young Master, our retreat path is blocked.”
Only then did the group turn to look behind them.
They saw the middle section of the hourglass-like structure now covered in layer upon layer of bloody light webs. Pei Wenjie had already led his men to attack, but they couldn’t break through at all.
  ”This… we’re done for…”
  Xuan Yutang’s face turned grim.
  The slaughter continued relentlessly.
One warrior after another collapsed to the ground.
Huang Yu, at least at the early stage of the Star-Plucking Realm, barely held his ground. But he faced danger repeatedly, and if not for Ye Wushuang by his side, he would have been injured long ago.
But if they kept expending energy like this, their entire group would inevitably be wiped out.
”How hateful that my imperial family is in turmoil, and I, Huang Yu, am to die here.” Huang Yu said with a face full of sorrow.
  ”Shut up.”
Ye Wushuang’s stern shout startled Huang Yu, making his body tremble.
Xuan Yutang and Pei Wenjie were doing their best to protect their own people, but the blood-armored warriors around them were too fierce, making it impossible for the two to shield everyone.
People kept dying, and the screams made Pei Wenjie and Xuan Yutang increasingly agitated.
At this moment, Ye Wushuang’s gaze turned toward the depths of the valley, where the blood-jade skeletal figure on the altar in front of the stone wall seemed to be summoning something, causing the blood aura on its body to grow visibly weaker.
Zhou Yuan, taking shelter under the Heavenly Abyss Sacred Cauldron, also turned his eyes toward the altar.
”Senior Zhou, have you noticed anything?” Ye Wushuang shouted in inquiry.
  ”Hmm…”
Zhou Yuan’s expression turned grave as he said, “I only know that Gu Wentian had a lover in his youth named Ning Xi, but she died many years ago. As for Gu Wentian’s affairs, very little is related to Ning Xi…”
Hearing this, Ye Wushuang’s expression turned stern.
  ”Ah…”
  Another scream echoed once more.
Ye Wushuang’s gaze shifted, and beside Pei Wenjie, a young man had one of his arms severed directly by a blood-armored figure.
  ”Wenxiu!”
Seeing this scene, Pei Wenjie could no longer remain calm. With a low roar, he charged forward without hesitation.
However, he was already surrounded by three blood-armored figures. As he rushed toward the young man named Wenxiu, Pei Wenjie paid no heed to the blood-armored figures behind him, focusing solely on slaying those near Wenxiu.
  ”Scram!”
Wielding a sword, Pei Wenjie struck repeatedly, managing only to repel the blood-armored figures and pull Wenxiu to his side.
  ”Big brother, I can’t go on…”
Pei Wenxiu’s face was deathly pale as he staggered to steady himself, his life force gradually dissipating.
  ”Nonsense!”
Pei Wenjie scolded, “Hold on, I’ll get you out of here.”
Of the six members of the Pei family, only Pei Wenjie, Pei Wenxiu, and another early-stage Transformation Realm cultivator remained.
As for the eight from the Xuan family, only Xuan Yutang and three Transformation Realm experts were left.
But the situation grew even direr.
The blood-colored pearls on the ground rose one by one, continuously transforming into more blood-armored figures, their numbers swelling.
Pei Wenjie could have protected himself easily, but with Pei Wenxiu by his side, he repeatedly found himself in peril.
Another early-stage Heaven’s Reach expert from the Pei family ultimately lost his life as well.
The two brothers huddled together, looking rather disheveled.
  Swish swish swish…
Suddenly, several blood-armored warriors, wielding weapons, closed in on Pei Wenjie and Pei Wenxiu.
  ”Brother, let go of me.”
Pei Wenxiu shouted, “If you keep holding me, you’ll die with me.”
”If we die, we die together,” Pei Wenjie retorted.
In an instant, six blood-armored warriors charged at them with weapons drawn.
Pei Wenjie was struck, blood streaming from his wounds, yet he still refused to release his younger brother.
  And just then,
  another six blood-armored warriors attacked.
Pei Wenjie saw no way to fend them off.
  From the side,
a barrage of sharp, menacing sword qi came whistling through.
  Bang bang bang…
Low, muffled explosions rang out as one blood-armored warrior after another fell lifeless.
Pei Wenjie hurriedly helped his brother up.
At that moment, Ye Wushuang arrived with Huang Yu in tow.
”Huang Yu, take care of Pei Wenxiu.”
With those words, Ye Wushuang continued to intercept the oncoming blood-armored warriors.
Pei Wenjie wasted no time either, summoning his sword to fight, shielding his brother behind him.
  ”Senior Zhou, you…”
  ”Don’t look at me!”
Zhou Yuan immediately said, “See how much firepower I’ve drawn for you?”
The Heavenly Abyss Sacred Cauldron hovered above Zhou Yuan’s head, surrounded by hundreds of blood-armored men, besieging him relentlessly.
”I’d like to shield you all, but I’ve expended too much energy earlier. Now, with my soul still unstable, I can only sustain myself.”
  Ye Wushuang gritted his teeth.
He still had some strength left, but if this battle continued, he would be worn down to death.
Huang Yu shouted anxiously, “Young Master Ye, Young Master Ye, Pei Wenxiu is about to collapse…”
  ”Wenxiu…”
Hearing this, Pei Wenjie’s expression turned even grimmer.
Ye Wushuang flicked his wrist, tossing out a spirit pill. Huang Yu caught it, sensing the radiant glow and swirling aura on its surface—extraordinarily rare.
  ”Nine Revolutions Soul-Restoring Pill!”
Huang Yu grinned, “An eighth-grade spirit pill—these are incredibly scarce.”
”Enough talk, give it to him.”
  ”Got it!”
Pei Wenxiu, having lost an arm and severely injured, swallowed the pill. His internal energy gradually stabilized, at least preventing immediate death.
Seeing this, Pei Wenjie sighed in relief and turned to Ye Wushuang, saying, “Thank you.”
”Thanking me now is a bit early!”
As Ye Wushuang’s words fell, he turned his gaze back to the altar.
On the altar, the blood-bone man spread his arms wide, his life force completely dissipated, leaving only a crimson skeletal figure standing there, devoid of any vitality.
And before the man, at the center of the altar, a coffin slowly rose…
