Chapter 94: Lord Lolth Is as Wise as the Demon King!
Achilles had no intention of roasting all the people in Cassilda City alive; she wasn’t even doing these things for her own comfort.
Since all the Balrogs of The Seventh Legion were soaking in lava pools they had dug in the mountains outside the city, Achilles used precious lava and hellstone for Cassilda’s construction, following the Demon King’s instruction to “treat the people well.”
She simply thought the residents of Cassilda City might be too cold.
“How can people live in such a cold place?! No wonder everyone here looks so sickly! Those human nobles don’t even share lava with the people—they are incredibly foolish!”
These were Achilles’ original words, as retold by the Balrog leader while lighting the hellstone on fire.
After hearing this, Lolth halted everything before the average temperature of Cassilda City rose to thirty-nine degrees and residents began fainting from heatstroke. She then went to the Balrog settlement that Achilles had built outside the city, pulled Achilles out of the largest lava pool where she was bathing, and spent half an hour explaining the ideal human living temperature and why lava cannot flow in the moat.
Although Achilles’ stubbornness surfaced at first, faced with the facts and Lolth’s serious demeanor, she eventually admitted her mistake and personally apologized to the residents of Cassilda City.
“I, Balrog Achilles, have made errors of experientialism and dogmatism in the construction of Cassilda City. I failed to recognize the different temperature requirements of humans and Balrogs in their living environments. I wrongly believed that higher temperatures are always better, causing great inconvenience to all residents. Under Master Lolthlinda’s guidance, I deeply acknowledge the mistakes I made due to ignorance and arrogance. I sincerely apologize! I hope you can forgive my mistakes, and I will strive to improve myself, listen to your feedback, and lead The Seventh Legion of Balrogs to continue living harmoniously with all residents!”
“Furthermore, to compensate for my faults, all residents of Cassilda City will receive two free pieces of Hellstone, a type of brick that stores heat energy. As winter approaches this year, it can be used for heating… After the stored heat energy is depleted, I promise that any resident can receive free recharging from any stationed Balrog guard or patrol member. I also hope you can forgive me for my mistakes.”
This apology statement in Cassilda City received a positive response, as learning that Achilles had not intentionally meant to cause heatstroke led to a significant shift in perception of her!
Moreover, when would nobles and lords ever apologize for their mistakes to commoners?
They even proposed compensation… It was unbelievable!
Were these demons really so wicked?
The people of Cassilda City began to see things differently.
Lolth didn’t realize the impact her actions had caused.
After finishing her tasks, she spent a normal night in Cassilda City, enjoying the clear moat and the now harder cobblestone streets. She ate the delicious food made by the residents, then set off again with a pile of magic materials provided by Achilles.
Shortly after Lolth left…
Doyle Candice arrived in Cassilda City!
“Hmm… the Demon King ordered us to keep a close eye on Achilles this time, as Balrogs can easily cause trouble due to their fiery tempers.”
Little Devil flew into Cassilda City and saw a long line of residents forming in the square.
Achilles and a group of Balrogs had extinguished their flames and stood before the residents, handing out dark red bricks.
“Be careful not to touch the heat release button—it’s hot!”
“When heating indoors daily, just use the lowest setting. Master Lolthlinda said if you turn it on high, you’ll get too hot!”
“Because it uses magic energy to heat up, it can’t be used to boil water or cook!”
Achilles stored heat in the hellstone in her hand while calling out to the residents.
Doyle found this scene very strange.
“Achilles… What are you doing?”
Doyle flew up to Achilles.
Seeing the Little Devil, Achilles temporarily handed the hellstone to her subordinate and greeted this messenger representing the Demon King.
“Your Excellency Doyle, I am distributing hellstones to the residents of Cassilda City,” Achilles replied.
“I can see that,” Doyle waved her hand and asked, “But why are you distributing them?”
“Um… well…”
Before Doyle, Achilles honestly explained the whole story and Lolth’s instructions.
Hearing Lolth’s name, Doyle smiled knowingly.
“Oh my… Is this Lord Lolth’s work indeed…”
“Yes,” Achilles agreed, “if it wasn’t for Master Lolth… I might have caused a great disaster!”
Unlike Zakavido’s planting of the Withered Spirit Rose, which disgusted people, if Achilles had really covered every road with Hell Rock, people might have started dying of heatstroke on a massive scale within days!
After all, a city with an average temperature of fifty degrees is not suitable for ordinary people to inhabit!
She would probably have ended up having her magic drained and being thrown into an ice cave for a hundred and eighty years.
Speaking of this, Achilles felt relieved.
“Thank you, Master Lolth… By the way, Your Excellency Doyle, did the Demon King give you any orders for coming to Cassilda this time?”
“Well, the Demon King asked me to do two things in Cassilda. The first is to distribute this month’s wages and salaries to The Seventh Legion and Balrogs, and also to inform you that the supplies for Balrog’s territory in the Abyss are on their way…”
Doyle took out a space magic bag filled with magic crystals.
“Thank you to the Demon King,” Achilles graciously accepted the magic bag and respectfully asked, “So, Lord Doyle, what is the second thing?”
“It seems there’s no need for the second thing now… The situation at the Abyss remains the same—Lord Lolth has already taken the lead,” Doyle waved her hand, “Just as expected, Lord Lolth is as insightful as the Demon King. Well, she should be heading to Shelldor next; I need to catch up with her quickly this time!”
