Chapter 207: The Town Meeting of All Residents of Hillenbrand
“Attention all residents of Hillenbrand Town!
If there are no urgent matters, please gather at the town square as soon as possible.
Lord Lolth will be holding a town meeting and has an important announcement to make!
Please try to arrive before ten o’clock!”
“I repeat, please arrive before ten o’clock!”
Tina’s voice echoed through Hillenbrand Town via the loudspeaker.
The residents, just beginning their morning routines, quickly set aside their tasks and hurried toward the town square.
Over time, Lolth’s reputation in Hillenbrand Town had soared to new heights.
Naturally, the townsfolk were eager to hear what their lord had to say this time.
After all, it was Lord Lolth!
Meanwhile, on the south side of town, a group of Superoperators, led by Isabella, approached the square.
Unlike the townsfolk’s admiration, the Superoperators felt a deep sense of awe toward Lolth.
Although they had come to understand that the demon race was not inherently evil, there was no denying that Lolth was an exceptionally powerful being.
She could:
Cast high-level magic effortlessly
Utilize advanced magical materials for farming
Invent countless magical tools
Perform complex enchantments with ease
Thus, if she called a meeting, the subject must be of great importance.
These former Holy Alliance Superoperators also recognized that Lolth had a notably calm and laid-back personality.
She seldom made public appearances unless the matter truly required her attention.
Now, coupled with the unusual fluctuations from the Plane Magic Tide, the Superoperators sensed that something significant had occurred.
And they were right.
Lolth had called this meeting in response to the opening of the “Evil Divine Kingdom Half-Plane.”
Lolth Takes the Stage
Standing in the bustling town square, Lolth took a moment to observe the gathered crowd.
She then stepped onto a wooden platform, pulled out a large white megaphone, and swept her gaze across the expectant faces before her.
Her eyes lingered momentarily on the Superoperators, who had integrated well but still stood together at the south side of the square.
Then, she began.
“Good morning to all the old and new residents of Hillenbrand Town!
I am your lord, Lolthlinda.
Today, I have called this gathering for two important reasons.”
“First, the magic tide is drawing to a close, and I want to ensure that everyone has safely made it through.
During this magic tide, Hillenbrand Town achieved zero casualties, zero injuries, and zero losses.
This is something to be proud of.”
A wave of cheers rippled through the crowd.
“It’s all thanks to our lord!”
“That’s right! Even though I felt nothing, it was all due to our lord’s protection!”
“I heard that during the magic tide, magical beasts go berserk!”
“We didn’t see a single one! It’s all because of Lady Lolth!”
Excited chatter spread among the townsfolk, but Lolth raised her hand, signaling them to quiet down.
“This was simply my duty,” she said firmly.
“However, just because we were safe this time does not mean that Hillenbrand Town will always be safe.
During the magic tide, we narrowly avoided a major catastrophe.
Thanks to Tina and me, the disaster was prevented.
But as the war at the frontlines intensifies, and the history of this continent continues to unfold, Vera Plain will inevitably be drawn into larger events.
Some may be unforeseen dangers, while others could be deliberate plots aimed at me.
That is why I must strengthen each of you.
And for that, I will need the help of Hillenbrand Town’s newest residents.”
Lolth’s gaze settled on the Holy Alliance prisoners.
The town’s original residents also turned to look at them.
“Over time, I believe you have all built enough trust with the town’s people.
Now, I ask for your help.”
“In the construction of the western district, you may have noticed that, aside from the residential areas, there are several larger public buildings under development.”
“I intend to establish a City Hall, a police station, and a hospital in this new district.
The first members of City Hall will be chosen by vote, with all residents of Hillenbrand Town participating.
Going forward, City Hall officials will be re-elected every two years under the supervision of the townspeople.”
Lolth glanced at the speech draft in her hand before continuing.
“As for the police station and the hospital staff, I ask the Superoperators to serve as the first members—at least for now.”
“I will not force anyone to stay here.
However, at this moment, Hillenbrand Town needs the help of the Superoperators.”
“In the western district, I also plan to build a school that will provide:
Professional skills training
Literacy education
Combat Superoperator training
Medical Superoperator training
Once we have enough trained personnel, you will be free to leave.”
She then paused, watching the Superoperators’ stunned silence.
Finally, she added,
“Of course, if you feel that working for a demon race is too much to accept, I will allow you to leave now.”
The moment she finished speaking, a dwarf suddenly interrupted.
“My lord, what are you even saying? Haven’t we already been working for you?”
His booming voice echoed through the square, louder than a trumpet.
Then, the remaining eighty or so Superoperators began speaking at once.
“At first, I really did want to leave… but now, I can’t imagine parting with Hillenbrand Town’s cafeteria…”
“Our princess hasn’t left, so why should we?”
“Exactly! Life here is far more interesting than being a noble’s pampered son…
Back home, the common folk always avoided me, but now, I can play cards and chat with them!
What’s wrong with that?”
“I see you’re especially fond of chatting with the fruit shop owner’s daughter!”
“What are you talking about…? We just get along well!”
Hearing the lively discussion, Lolth felt a wave of relief.
“It seems everyone has truly settled in.”
“This is all because of your leadership, Master Lolth,” Tina said with a smile.
“That’s right… even the greedy nobles from Seychelles were moved by you.
You should be proud of this, Lady Lolth.”
For once, Isabella actually agreed with Tina.
