Chapter 50
Chapter 50: A Regular Little Tavern, an Ordinary Landlady
After spending the whole afternoon setting up, Lolth felt that the safety of Hillenbrand Town had been upgraded. It was now perfectly protected against monster invasions. Even some large human cities couldn’t match its security level.
However, these magical formations were only the basics. If a legendary spellcaster came, they could easily be broken.
To truly enjoy a peaceful life without disturbances, setting up more discreet magical formations, escape magical formations, and advanced protection magical formations had to be prioritized after the ecological chamber, farms, warehouses, and new projects were completed.
For Lolth now, these were just about enough to manage with.
Of course, Lolth wasn’t entirely sure of the actual defensive capabilities of these magical formations. They were strong enough to keep any main army of the Holy Alliance, along with their commanders, stuck for several days…
"After a hard day’s work, the basic magical formations are in place. Now it’s time to relax!"
Lolth thought for a moment and looked towards the direction of the town.
"Hmm… It’s nighttime now, and the light is dim. I better hide my horns and tail. Hopefully, no one will notice, right?"
"This little town probably doesn’t have any strong individuals. Even if I blend in, no one will recognize me."
"I’ll just say I’m a passing adventurer. It shouldn’t be a problem… It’s been so long since I’ve had a proper meal made by other humans…"
After some consideration, Lolth decided she could go check out the town.
Although the population is only around two hundred people, there should be taverns or restaurants there!
The temptation of tasting various foods from around the world, especially after spending seventeen years in the Abyss and two years in the Demon King Castle, had already reached an unbearable level!
Since arriving in this different world, she hadn’t tasted any truly appetizing dishes made by people from this unique world.
Even though Hillenbrand Town is just a small town, there might not be exceptionally high-quality food.
But the opportunity was right in front of Lolth, and she couldn’t resist!
In the end, she finally stepped into the town.
But what surprised Lolth was that even though it was only around six or seven in the evening, there were no pedestrians on the streets of the small town!
Every household’s doors and windows were tightly closed, with even a faint light seeping through the cracks in the doors and windows!
Places that looked like shops along the street had naturally closed early, with their windows boarded up.
The entire town was quiet, with only the fading sunset glow and scattered fresh garbage on the streets revealing that it was actually a bustling town during the day.
Feeling the moment of tranquility, Lolth couldn’t help but sigh.
"Is this the simple border town, where people work at sunrise and rest at sunset, living a plain and routine life, quite uneventful."
"But the first taste of inter-world cuisine will have to be postponed again, a bit disappointing…"
This succubus completely ignored the possibility that her arrival caused this situation.
Just as she was about to leave empty-handed and return tomorrow, she suddenly noticed a faint warm glow coming from a small alley not far away.
Curiously, she walked over and discovered that it was actually a tavern with its door wide open!
Above the door, a wooden sign in shiny gold letters read "Tavern" in simple common language, with two lanterns emitting soft light hanging below.
The half-closed wooden door allowed her to catch snippets of conversation coming from inside.
This unexpected discovery made Lolth very happy.
"Indeed, no matter how small a town is, there always has to be a place for nightlife!" she murmured to herself.
Muttering these words, she pushed open the nameless tavern’s wooden door and entered.
Inside the cozy but not very spacious tavern, there was only a simple wooden bar counter and seven or eight high stools; behind the counter stood a tall liquor cabinet, with a menu hanging on one side; next to the liquor cabinet, a bar counter and a simple stove were placed side by side, while some common ingredients were piled up in a corner.
Besides the landlady lazily sitting on a chair behind the bar, leaning against the liquor cabinet and smoking a pipe while wearing a thick fur coat, there were only two customers in the whole tavern.
One of them is a strong and muscular middle-aged man with well-developed biceps, scruffy beard, dark and rough skin, and shabby clothes that look like they have been through a lot. He seems a bit drunk, with several empty large glasses in front of him.
The other one appears to be a somewhat quiet and destitute man, dressed in strange light blue clothes. There is a long box by his feet, and his somewhat handsome face shows signs of hardship, just like the story-filled light blue wine jug and small wine glass in front of him.
When Lolth entered the shop, the three people turned their gaze towards her, observing the black hoodie-wearing girl.
After a moment, the average-looking and lazy-looking landlady behind the bar stood up from her tilted chair and walked to the front of the bar.
"Oh, we have a new guest…"
"Welcome."
