Chapter 90: The Upset Young Couple
The next afternoon, Lolth and her group finally arrived at the Port of Vancouver after a long day of travel.
However, the atmosphere during today’s journey had been slightly awkward.
After a night had passed, the now calmer Lolth and Isabella made conscious efforts to avoid making eye contact.
Both of them were quite adept at dealing with the awkwardness between them.
The current Lolth and Isabella resembled a pair of “teased and accepted” students in a high school class, like after one confesses in the heat of the moment and the other doesn’t respond the next day at school.
Anyone could tell those two had secrets!
Ann, suspecting they were secretly dating, had also noticed this change.
“Are the young couple having a lover’s quarrel? It seems last night didn’t go as smoothly as I thought…”
Ann quietly wondered if Lolth letting the group go had made Isabella feel guilty and caused the argument between them.
Being someone who had read many love storybooks, Ann quickly thought of another possibility.
Old Harper, after missing out on an exciting scene due to boasting yesterday, also seemed to understand something now, showing only a sense of nostalgia: “Youth is wonderful.”
Only eight-year-old Kanor remained confused – of course, one couldn’t expect much from this “genius girl.”
Some things couldn’t be fixed by genius.
But Kanor understood it wasn’t the right time to talk.
So, along the way, the inside of the carriage remained very quiet, with only Dadaka occasionally making a “vroom” sound, which Lolth would translate:
“The road ahead is bumpy.”
“About to make a turn.”
“Three more hours until we reach our destination.”
Finally, as the road gradually became flat and wide, occasional human settlements such as villages could be seen in the distance. A small team of demon race creatures was driving away magical beasts, and the Port of Vancouver appeared on the horizon.
As the largest city in the Qinma Principality, housing the Ducal Residence and estate of the principality, the Port of Vancouver was naturally bustling.
Located at the mouth of the largest tributary of the Larech River and in the middle of Vera Plain, it made sense that the Duke chose to reside here.
From afar, Lolth could see boats moving along the river.
While not as prosperous as the Qinma Principality before the demon race occupation, the passing boats indicated that even under demon rule, this city was regaining its vitality.
That’s why Lolth chose the Port of Vancouver in the Qinma Principality as her first stop.
It wasn’t that she had a great relationship with Zacvidor the evil spirit, but because they had a wide range of items here!
Maybe she could buy most of the materials needed at this Port of Vancouver!
At the city gate, many patrolling evil spirit Death Knights, Undead Warriors, and Undead Warlocks recognized the extravagant Happy Dog Car.
“It’s the vehicle of Detention Department Lord Kululu! And Dadaka!”
“Silly, Lord Kululu definitely wouldn’t come to the Port of Vancouver for no reason, it must be Lady Lolth!”
“Really! It’s Mistress Lolth – we must report to Lord Zakavido!”
“I think so too, let’s go quickly!”
After a discussion, two evil spirits glowing blood-red and semi-transparent quickly flew towards the city.
Kanor was lying by the window, watching the slightly scary evil spirits with curiosity.
“Are these creatures Master Lolth’s relatives? They look much uglier than Master Lolth!”
Lolth didn’t reply, but Mayor Harper immediately started explaining to Kanor.
“Abyssal Demons are just a general term, there are different races inside – just like how the mainland has elves, orcs, dwarves, and humans, even though they all live on the mainland, they look different! Those should be undead clan or undead creatures!”
“More precisely, they should be evil spirits,” corrected Ann. “Undead clan is a general term for undead creatures. Undead creatures are the most common undead clan, but evil spirits have both characteristics of undead clan and Abyssal Demons… because they mostly live in the abyss, they are generally considered to belong to Abyssal Demons.”
“So that’s how it is!” Kanor nodded.
Old Harper also rubbed his slightly bald head, muttering, “I never knew about this kind of distinction…”
“The simplest way to tell them apart is that most evil spirits are in warm colors like red, orange, and dark yellow, while regular undead clans and undead creatures are usually in colors like bluish-white and grayish-white… of course, it’s not always accurate, just most of the time,” Ann added.
Lolth looked at Ann in surprise and said, “Ann, you know a lot about the Abyss?”
Even many demons cannot distinguish between spirits and undead, simply referring to them all as undead.
Especially the troll and Barbarian Demon races, which are inherently clueless – it’s because of this that the Ninth Legion’s Majimaji always clashes with Zakavido upon meeting.
Neither Majimaji can remember that Zakavido is a spirit, not undead – they keep calling him the wrong thing.
Upon hearing Lolth’s words, Ann shook his head.
“No, there are quite a few undead in the eastern region… so I just know more about the undead clan.”
If they truly understood the Abyssal Demons, they wouldn’t be so surprised by the succubus’s magical abilities.
Of course, the spirits they encountered today also surprised Ann greatly.
Originally thought Port of Vancouver should be quiet now, but it was unexpectedly peaceful.
Many people are afraid of evil spirits, but they had not seen any evil spirits harming people.
As the dog cart slowly approached the city gate, one of the evil spirits that had just run into the city quickly ran back.
He stopped at the side of the dog cart, stood up straight with a “pop,” and loudly said to Lolth inside the cart:
“Lord Lolth, the Second Legion welcomes your arrival – Master Zakavido invites you for a chat at the Ducal Residence. He says your arrival is timely! Hurry to the Ducal Residence and show your support!”
“What’s happening in Port of Vancouver?” Lolth asked in shock.
“Nothing major for now… but these days, there’s an unknown epidemic spreading in Port of Vancouver, causing many elderly and children to fall ill. It may only be a matter of time before something big happens – Master Zakavido has been troubled by this for the past few nights! Master Lolth, you really need to think of a solution!”
