Chapter 79: Happy Number… Dog Cart?
After Lolth’s visit, Mayor Harper Dolun gladly accepted Lolth’s invitation.
In fact, after Lolth’s arrival and recognizing their superior administrative abilities and dedication to benefiting Hillenbrand, Harper chose to spend his days drinking tea at home to avoid causing any trouble for the lord as the “mayor.”
During this past week, the retired adventurer in his sixties felt restless, just like any normal retiree. After all, not everyone could enjoy slacking off like Lolth without guilt.
Being invited by the lord again to shine in Hillenbrand Town, Old Harper was naturally delighted. As for Isabella, Ann’s concerns about demon race conspiracies, the continent’s reputation, and his own pride, Old Harper didn’t think about any of those! He was just a small town mayor, a basic adventurer, who didn’t understand such matters at all.
After agreeing to meet the mayor early the next morning on the north side of Hillenbrand Town’s main road, Lolth returned to the torture tower to prepare for the journey. This time, she didn’t plan on using any spatial magic!
Firstly, long-distance teleportation without coordinates consumed too much energy and the spellcasting process was too complex – last time, using a magic circle to transfer the torture tower had put the whole tower in an energy-charged state for days. Lolth firmly believed that magic should make life easier, not cause problems!
Secondly, she enjoyed a leisurely journey with frequent stops!
This kind of official trip needed proper preparation. Taking out a mountain travel bag made of magical beast leather, she stuffed in various homemade snacks, lunch boxes, and ingredients, adding a magic crystal with photo functionality as a camera.
The land area of this otherworldly world was much larger than in her previous life, with a sparse population, so they would likely need to stay overnight in the wild. She brought a camping kit as well.
Gradually, the backpack grew fuller, so Lolth simply added an expansion enchantment to turn it into a simple space magic bag. However, it didn’t have the exaggerated portable and fresh-keeping functions of a true space magic bag.
As for why not just use a space magic bag… Lolth felt that using one would take away the fun of traveling!
The last step was choosing transportation for the trip. This actually revealed Lolth’s lack of knowledge. After this lazy fish had traveled through time, she’d learned space magic early on to make moving easier. She didn’t really understand the transportation commonly used in the Demon King Castle.
Luckily, she still had a helper by her side.
Turning right when leaving, she found the golem puppet hanging in the corridor. Lolth wrote a note to Kululu:
“Kululu,
Tomorrow, we’re going far to the human city to buy things. Get us a ride;
There are five of us, don’t drive too slow but not too fast either;
It would be great if it could carry goods and leave it at the north entrance of Hillenbrand Town;
Oh, and make sure it’s not too difficult to drive.”
She patted the Golem Puppet, and the large figure started moving on its own, holding Lolth’s note and slowly walking away, disappearing at the corridor’s end.
Lolth didn’t know where it was going. This guy always managed to find Kululu somehow.
After waiting a moment, the golem returned with heavy steps. In its hand was Lolth’s note, which it passed back to her.
When Lolth took it, she noticed the elegant words “求爷” written at the end.
“Begging grandpa.”
“Begging your highness!”
Lolth cursed, and the magical writing on the paper seemed to activate at her touch, transforming into a new line of text.
“Don’t scold others, do you have manners? I won’t argue with you, everything is ready. Tomorrow you just need to sit and it will be done!”
A very Kululu-style response, but Lolth understood the meaning. She didn’t need to worry about anything anymore.
After packing her luggage, Lolth went to sleep. Early to bed, early to rise! She wasn’t a primary school student who couldn’t sleep well because of an upcoming trip.
However, the others traveling with her were definitely having trouble sleeping.
Isabella couldn’t rest well thinking about going to a city within the former Republic of Seychelles territory the next day. She had been captured by the demon race. In the middle of the night, her stomachache turned into bloating.
“I ate too much barbecue rice and fried chicken rice… I also drank too much of that fizzy sweet water…”
The lady knight lay on her bed, feeling stomach discomfort.
Meanwhile, Ann, the young boy living in a house next to the Blacksmith Shop, held his box while lost in thought about the landlady’s earlier gossip.
“Do I… really still have a chance?”
Ann murmured, looking at his delicate fingers. His once desolate heart, which had long lost hope and fallen silent, was starting to feel restless again.
As for Mayor Old Harper and Kanor, these two were simply excited like children before a spring outing.
“It’s time for me to show off my skills again, I must protect everyone well!”
Old Harper sat before his bed, taking out his long-handled iron war hammer that he hadn’t used in ages, wiping the dull hammerhead with a towel. He had no idea that he might be the least skilled among the group, except for eight-year-old Kanor…
As Kanor lay in the residence behind the tavern, having been informed by the landlady about tomorrow’s journey with Lord Lolth, she grew excited. Indeed, the landlady knew her well. This must be an opportunity to find a mentor!
Therefore, she couldn’t disappoint the landlady, who was practically her mother, by refusing her kindness.
“This time, I must officially become Master Lolth’s disciple… or at least build a good relationship with Master Lolth!”
Kanor thought to herself. After a week of observing and learning, she was completely convinced by Lolth’s exquisite cooking skills, vast culinary knowledge, effortless techniques, and incredibly innovative dish creations, already considering her as her teacher!
After a night of little sleep for everyone, the five arrived at the designated meeting point on Hillenbrand Town’s northern edge at six-thirty in the early morning, just as the sky started brightening.
Then, all five noticed the strange thing lying across the main road simultaneously.
There was a huge, fluffy gray and white creature sound asleep, with a bridle as thick as a bowl hanging from it, pulling a pink carriage.
The creature looked like Isabella’s former mount White Frost Direwolf, but not quite. It was grayer, fluffier, and more good-natured.
On one side of the carriage, there was a universal symbol shimmering with colorful light.
“Happy Number… traveling dog carriage?”
Lolth muttered as she looked at the symbol with a twitching mouth.
“Kululu, you really did come through…”
