Chapter 73: Hillenbrand New Oriental, Training Begins!
Isabella originally wanted to stop some people from eating Lolth’s roasted meat, but the fragrance was simply too tempting!
Even though she usually didn’t care much about indulgence, after tasting the roasted meat, she found herself feeling a bit conflicted.
After all, the Ryman people naturally loved roasted meat.
For anyone who enjoys eating meat but has never tried barbecue before, the sight of it alone can be overwhelming. No one can resist this mouthwatering temptation.
“Darn, this succubus really knows how to make these foods unbelievably enticing!” Isabella thought angrily, all while munching on grilled skewers.
Still, one’s willpower wouldn’t be corrupted by the magic of these foods, so she justified having a little.
It was just a pity for the innocent residents of Hillenbrand Town, who were slowly edging closer to corruption!
With the blessing of this barbecue meal, everyone’s work efficiency in the afternoon improved significantly.
After all, Lolth had promised a barbecue and a drink called “beer” after work, naturally sparking everyone’s enthusiasm.
Moreover, the barbecue itself had the added effect of replenishing energy and increasing strength, far surpassing the benefits of a regular magic potion!
Thanks to this momentum, Lolth realized the first phase of the project, originally scheduled for completion in one month, could likely be finished in just over a week.
And that was without anyone working overtime or exhausting themselves.
Still, she had an odd feeling, as if something wasn’t quite right, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
However, finishing ahead of schedule was undeniably a good thing, so Lolth decided not to dwell on it too much.
The afternoon passed quickly in the bustling Southern New Development Zone. After spending some time fishing by the river, Lolth caught a few big fish for a barbecue dinner, which was met with high praise, especially when paired with beer!
However, Lolth realized it was time to hire help for the kitchen.
As much as she loved cooking, she couldn’t handle everything herself.
Isabella and Tina didn’t seem particularly skilled in the culinary arts either.
In Hillenbrand Town, there were plenty of women and elderly folks staying at home without work.
It seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce Earth’s unique cuisine to this otherworld. Why not give it a try?
After a day’s work, before nightfall, Lolth drafted a recruitment notice and posted it on the bulletin board:
“Recruitment Notice for Hillenbrand Town Southern New Development Zone:
Hiring 10 cooks and kitchen helpers to provide meals for the construction workers in the Southern New Development Zone.
Salary of two silver coins per week, with Lord Lolth personally responsible for training, providing full guidance.
Interested parties please come for an interview in the southern area.”
This was also considered a type of experiment since there would be plenty of training to handle in the future.
When the farms, ranches, fisheries, and forestry were established, Lolth planned to hire helpers for Tina and Isabella.
In fact, Lolth intended to implement a contracting system, dividing these areas into smaller sections and hiring different farmers who would receive a share of the produce.
There was an old saying: “Give the lord his share, keep enough for the collective, the rest is yours!”
Many of the magical devices created by Lolth, along with the novel crops, livestock, and farming techniques she introduced to the local farmers, would require proper training.
Some of this could be taught by Tina, and once the first group of trainees was trained, they could pass on their knowledge to others, sparing Lolth from teaching every new batch herself.
An additional “reward” this time was to select intelligent, capable, and efficient individuals to form the first group of trainees for the contracting system.
Training a group of chefs now would be good practice for Lolth.
Tina, the Elf Princess, was the only person Lolth had taught before, so she was unsure of her teaching abilities and how well the common folk in this world could adapt to new concepts.
If she couldn’t even teach her best skill—cooking—properly, she would need to work hard to prepare for the upcoming training sessions!
The next day, Lolth selected a few chubby-looking aunties who seemed skilled at cooking from the applicants. She built some simple houses near the market construction site, equipping them with stoves and cooking utensils to serve as a basic kitchen and training area.
“Starting today at noon, I will demonstrate how to use kitchen tools while cooking lunch. You can assist me and ask questions if you don’t understand anything. In the afternoon, you’ll practice on your own. By evening, you must work together to prepare the same dishes I made for the construction workers’ dinner. Do you understand?”
At noon, Lolth stood in the kitchen with her hands behind her back, addressing ten aunties dressed as chefs.
“Understood!”
The aunties answered meticulously.
“Great, full of spirit—let’s get started!”
Lolth had meticulously planned the menu for the training sessions.
Over the next week, she intended to teach the aunties classic home-cooked dishes, fast food, and snacks.
These dishes were affordable, beloved by common people, and easy to learn, making them practical and suitable for the aunties.
On the first day, Lolth chose to teach the classic Chinese fast-food box meal: the rice bowl with toppings!
Sour and spicy shredded potatoes, tomato scrambled eggs, mapo tofu, braised pork, and flavored eggplant—are common dishes found in canteens and lunch boxes. Each dish, from cutting to cooking, was prepared with Lolth’s classic Chinese vague teaching of “plenty of oil and salt for stir-frying evenly”, presented to the aunties.
These simple and down-to-earth aunties from Hillenbrand Town, who were used to cooking peas, stewed vegetables, and baking bread, had never seen such a grand display before and looked at each other in amazement.
“No wonder you are a noble lord… Your cooking skills are truly exceptional!”
“I have never seen these cooking methods before… ‘stir-frying’, it looks really difficult!”
“Can we learn this?”
The aunties even started to back down.
But at the thought of a reward of two silver coins, they gathered their courage again.
“Alright, I’m not asking you to be as skilled as me, the taste can be slightly inferior, but, by tonight, what I want to see is at least a passing grade of work!”
Aunties looked at each other when Lolth said this.
“Master, I can do it for sure!”
“That’s right, even a young girl like the Master can do it, I’ve been cooking at home for twenty years!”
“We can’t embarrass Hillenbrand Town!”
“We need to live up to the Master’s silver coins!”
The aunties all quickly became fired up too!
Their enthusiasm quickly reignited. Seeing their fighting spirit, Lolth nodded and left the kitchen.
What she didn’t notice was a small head peeking through the window of the temporary kitchen, quietly watching her cooking process with great interest!
