Chapter 67: Everything Is Going According to Plan!
After Doyle Candice finished explaining the last matter, he quickly said goodbye to prevent Lolth from inviting him to dinner again. He hurriedly left the room.
“Well then, goodbye, Master Lolth!” he called as he departed.
As expected, shortly after Doyle Candice left, the familiar Golem Puppet arrived in the reception room. It left a crumpled note for Lolth.
When she unfolded the note, delicate handwriting in the Abyssal demon language appeared.
“Well, I’ve also arrived, so I guess the speed is alright.”
The tone was as cheeky as ever, but Lolth didn’t bother to respond. She expressionlessly crumpled the note again and tossed it into the nearby waste bin.
She stood up, stretched lazily, and glanced at her new tasks.
“Cook up some intelligence on the Holy Alliance’s recent activities…”
She noted that this could wait for another fifteen days, so there was no rush.
“Fix the Space Magic Array…”
Hmm, maybe that could wait for tonight as well.
After all, the gap was directly beneath the torture tower, so if any magical beasts were to enter, they would be noticed right away.
If there were any powerful beings, the torture tower also had a second layer of Space Magic Array for protection, so there was no need to worry.
Besides, it seemed unlikely to be just a coincidence.
Lolth decided to repair the broken magic array in the morning—there was still time.
“Time to sleep. I’ve already exceeded my workload for today!” she muttered to herself.
She had delivered a speech during the day, added new features to the magic array in the afternoon, personally cooked and distributed free food to the residents in the evening, and even welcomed the messenger Doyle from the demon king.
For Lolth, this already felt like a week’s worth of work.
She absolutely couldn’t do any more tonight.
Besides, it was already evening, and time to sleep.
Thinking this, Lolth began her bedtime routine.
Wash up, change into pajamas, choose a room.
As Lolth got ready for bed, in a corner of the central square alley, Isabella stared in shock at the person standing in front of her, completely puzzled.
“Are you… Qiong?”
Standing before her was a petite girl, cloaked in a large garment, her face concealed by a black veil and a hood.
Despite the mystery surrounding the person, Isabella immediately recognized her.
Qiong, from the United Kingdom of South Sotua, had once been a renowned mercenary and assassin in the region.
If you needed monsters or magical beasts killed, she was a mercenary, an adventurer.
If you needed your enemies eliminated, she was an assassin, a killer.
When Isabella was a child, she had gone through the mundane training of the Holy Alliance. The first time Isabella saw Qiong, she had already been recruited by the kingdom and had joined the Holy Alliance as an intelligence agent for South Sotua.
Qiong had never assassinated any demons, but to Isabella, she was still a respected and powerful figure.
With Qiong’s presence, the demons couldn’t hide their movements.
The “Sneaker” team she had single-handedly trained caused significant problems for the demon race amidst the complex defenses and battlefields of the East.
“Yes, I am, Isabella Anno Ruitberd Zu Schwarzwald,” Qiong replied, her voice calm.
Isabella couldn’t help but feel a bit of happiness upon seeing Qiong.
But then, she realized something.
“You’re not here to save me, right?” Isabella asked cautiously.
“Of course not,” Qiong responded shortly.
As a person with a background as a hired mercenary killer, Qiong was even less compassionate than Isabella.
This was also why Isabella realized the other person wasn’t here to rescue her.
A rescue mission clearly wouldn’t be entrusted to Qiong. Her best skills lay in stealth and assassination.
It was more likely that Qiong was here to eliminate her. After all, they were both symbolic figures of the Holy Alliance, and they knew far too much.
“Well, then please,” Isabella said, gesturing for Qiong to proceed.
She was calm about death. In fact, it was something she had been longing for.
Being killed by a powerful opponent like Qiong, rather than by demons, seemed… fitting.
With that thought, Isabella slowly closed her eyes.
A moment passed.
Suddenly, she felt a rough texture in her hand.
Opening her eyes, she found a letter in her hand.
Qiong had vanished from sight.
Puzzled, Isabella opened the letter and quickly realized she had misunderstood.
The letter contained the Holy Alliance’s counterattack plan.
In a month, the Holy Alliance would launch a full-scale counterattack on the western front.
By then, the recently occupied Vera Plain and the unstable demon forces would be caught off guard, leaving their rear extremely vulnerable.
The reason for informing Isabella was to give her an opportunity to escape the Demon Army’s control and to understand the Holy Alliance’s deployment and main direction of attack. This would make it easier for her to meet up with them during her escape.
Of course, there was also a possibility that she might not escape.
Though it wasn’t explicitly stated, Isabella knew well enough that the Holy Alliance wanted her to hold off some of the high-level demon forces in the rear. After all, she was at least a legendary Grand Knight.
If she ran, the Demon Army would likely send out a legend to pursue her.
Of course, the premise was that Isabella first had to lift the curse and shackles—and somehow manage to escape.
Upon realizing this, a bitter smile touched Isabella’s lips.
The Holy Alliance likely didn’t know that she was no longer able to “escape.”
Now, the only thing she could do was keep this secret safe and ensure that the succubus didn’t discover the Holy Alliance’s plan.
What Isabella didn’t know was that on the outskirts of the town, Qiong had already slipped through a gap in the Space Magic Array. She was now using communication magic devices to report everything to the high-ranking officials of the United Kingdom of South Sotua within the Holy Alliance.
“Yes, I have successfully met Isabella.”
“Hillenbrand Town is a place where prisoners are kept. It is highly valued by the demon race, surrounded by magic arrays.”
“I sneaked in just before a mysterious explosion, which seemed like an internal conflict in the magic array.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve left plenty of clues behind; everything is part of the plan.”
“That letter—Isabella will destroy it too.”
Under the cover of night, Qiong’s small figure moved silently toward the direction of the Holy Alliance’s new Western Front, blending into the shadows.
