Chapter 64: The Power of Legend Upper Level! Failure of Space Magic Array!
Free things are always the most attractive.
After Lolth’s broadcast, the residents of Hillenbrand Town quickly gathered from all directions, even faster than when she made her announcement that morning. Everyone feared they might miss out if they arrived late.
However, Lolth ensured that everyone received a fair share of the huge fish—over 150 pounds, along with rice and side dishes. Everyone was guaranteed a satisfying meal.
With Tina’s help, a long line quickly formed, and each person received a free bowl of fish soup.
Soon, the square was filled with the simple praises of the people.
“This taste… is so magical!”
“My tongue hurts, but it’s delicious!”
“Why is this red soup so sweet and sour?”
“What is this soft texture?”
“I’ve never tasted anything like this… Is this Abyss cuisine?”
“This is even better than what nobles eat!”
“After eating, I feel all warm and cozy!”
“And I don’t feel tired at all!”
“Oh yes, I’m even getting more energized!”
As Lolth had expected, the sour pickled fish and tomato fish quickly captivated everyone present. The bright red color and exciting taste were enough to astonish the ordinary people of the Otherworld, who were accustomed only to basic seasoning like salt.
Cheers echoed through the square, filling Lolth with happiness.
“Indeed, my cooking skills are as impressive as ever!”
As a seasoned cook, her confidence stemmed largely from her culinary abilities—skills she had honed and perfected over ten years spent in the Otherworld.
After all, interest is the best teacher. Learning new skills, many of them were simply ways to make better dishes.
After everyone had happily shared the last of the fish soup, Lolth tapped on the empty iron bucket and announced loudly,
“Residents of Hillenbrand Town, I will also be opening a lord’s restaurant in the south, and everyone is welcome to come and dine. Of course, I will also be selling special ingredients and seasonings later, because in the south, I will establish venues for planting and breeding these unique ingredients!”
She paused, then added, “Residents who wish to try planting new crops and breeding new livestock will also be able to purchase seeds and accompanying planting techniques at the lord’s farm in the south!”
Lolth seized the opportunity to increase everyone’s recognition of her new project.
The residents who had been initially skeptical began to grow more optimistic.
“Truly generous, Lord!”
“I wonder what the yield of these crops we’ve never seen before will be…”
“Maybe next planting season, we can try growing some!”
“A restaurant… does this mean we can eat these new and delicious dishes every day?”
“We can even plant and cook by ourselves!”
To the residents of Hillenbrand Town, the lord from the Abyss had issued excellent decrees on her first day in office. She treated everyone to food that night, taught them the cultivation methods for these precious crops instead of keeping them to herself, and seemed to truly care for her people. She had quickly become a beloved lord.
However, not everyone was so taken with the spectacle. The landlady, Maider, and Ann noticed something different.
“There’s magic in this bowl of fish soup… The effects are like a weak Stamina Recovery Magic Potion,” Uncle Maider mumbled after taking a sip of the tomato fish soup.
Ann nodded silently, “It’s truly amazing… Is this the technology of the Abyssal Demon?”
The two exchanged a glance before turning to the landlady, who hadn’t tasted the soup but merely rolled her eyes.
“So, I guess I’ve become an encyclopedia now, right?” The landlady muttered, her voice thoughtful. “But I’m not entirely sure how she does it. I can guess, though—she must have bred ingredients with properties similar to those of a Magic Potion. These can be consumed directly or used in cooking without needing magic to mix them. The fish itself is ordinary, but the new vegetables and meat contain a faint, active magic that can directly affect the body. It’s not entirely new; there are similar things on the continent—you just didn’t know about them.”
Maider and Ann nodded, as if they understood, but the landlady hadn’t shared the full story.
She hesitated before adding, “From what I know, there are only about five similar items on the continent—Eden’s Golden Apple, Frost Sanctuary’s White Frost Flower… All of them are considered miracles, gifts from the gods.”
“Looks like I underestimated you, too…” the landlady sighed softly.
Meanwhile, Tina and Isabella, who had come from the small town to the south, had long since discovered the magical properties of the food and were not surprised by it. However, both had deeper suspicions about why Lolth was distributing fish soup to the residents.
“Is this Master Lolth’s way of winning people’s hearts?” Tina mused. “By making everyone taste such delicious and magical dishes, they’ll naturally look down on ordinary crops and come to rely solely on Master Lolth’s new crop varieties!”
In her mind, the plan was becoming clearer. “This way, all the residents will be dependent on Master Lolth! They’ll be fanatically loyal to her!”
While handing out the fish soup, Tina’s thoughts raced. “It’s truly wicked and ingenious, Master Lolth. Is this your plan? Truly worthy of being a great being who can control people’s hearts and play with souls!”
Her eyes gleamed with determination. “I must work hard to assist Master Lolth in ensuring this plan is successfully carried out!”
Compared to Tina’s deduction, the knight Isabella, who didn’t fully understand magic and Magic Potions, felt the magical power of the fish soup in her hands and arrived at a more simplistic, direct conclusion.
“I understand!” she exclaimed, her eyes widening.
“Besides restoring physical strength, these magical powers must also have a hidden effect of corrupting the soul!”
She paused, her gaze sharpening as her thoughts connected. “That’s why the succubus kept cooking for me and Tina all the time! And she’s trying to make the residents grow her evil crops!”
Isabella’s voice grew more urgent. “That’s why we fell without even realizing it!”
“Darn, we need to figure out a way to stop her plan!”
Meanwhile, Lolth stood not far away from the two, completely unaware of the conclusions they were drawing without her knowledge, just as she had been before. Even if she had noticed, the current Lolth had no time to care.
She had just sensed something.
The alarm she had added to the array earlier that afternoon had been triggered.
There was at least a Legend Upper Level power erupting near the torture tower in the northeast of the town.
The explosion was so powerful it had even caused a chain reaction, blowing up a Space Magic Array.
