Chapter 51: Escape Plan, Start Implementing
Just as Lolth entered Hillenbrand Town to hunt for food, Tina and Isabella began to act. Though they were highly suspicious that this could be a trap set by Lolth to catch them, both decided to proceed with their escape plan ahead of schedule.
After all, even if it was intentional on Lolth’s part, this opportunity was too good to pass up. The risk was worth it. If they succeeded, they might be able to save the two hundred innocent people of Hillenbrand Town from certain danger.
Isabella made her decision. Tonight, before Lolth returned, they would attempt a daring escape. Once she’d decided, she quickly informed Tina. According to the plan, they first made their way to Lolth’s “lab.”
The lab was where Lolth used to study and cultivate various new breeds of livestock and crops. However, it had not been used for some time. The variety of ingredients available now included most of the specialties from all over the continent, as well as those from Lolth’s past life. The taste, nutrition, and growth of these ingredients had all been carefully adjusted and were in almost perfect condition.
As a result, the laboratory no longer had any active projects. It mostly served as a record-keeping space for the breeds Lolth had previously researched. Some of those breeds were already being raised daily, some were still in the experimental phase, and others were temporarily on hold. A few of them were even… accidental products.
Though Tina had been informed about the existence of the lab and given certain permissions to make it easier to plant seeds in the future, she had never actually been inside before. Standing in front of the door now, she started to feel a bit nervous.
“Stay calm, Tina,” she whispered to herself. “This is your best chance for self-redemption!”
She took a deep breath, looked back at Isabella, who nodded, and together, they solemnly opened the door to the “laboratory.”
The moment they stepped inside, they were teleported to the torture tower in Hillenbrand Town—specifically, to the thirteenth floor. The first three levels consisted of rooms called “special interrogation rooms” in an ecological chamber. But from the lab on the fourth level, the door itself said a lot about the importance of this place. Clearly, it was something significant to Lolth; otherwise, she wouldn’t have dedicated an entire level to it.
A sliding door, distinct from the others, opened with a metallic crash, its track grinding as it moved.
Inside was a room similar in style to the “modern interrogation room” they had encountered before: white, solemn walls, clean, cool lights, and metal tables and chairs. But this room was much more spacious, almost overwhelming in its size.
On the metal tables, various instruments and devices caught their attention—many of them seemed sinister to Tina and Isabella. Some transparent containers held light green liquid, soaking the roots of plant seedlings. There were branches grafted onto trunks from different species, and seedlings from the same plant, each placed in separate containers. Some were wilted, some had white leaves, and others were simply soaking in a solution. Each one was tagged, as if comparing different growth conditions or species.
The plant section alone was disturbing enough, but it was the animal section that sent shivers down their spines.
Many animal skeletons were displayed in frames, each labeled with details about the parts of their bodies. Some livestock were enclosed in cages, but upon closer inspection, their breeds were unclear, often combining traits from several animals. Even more unsettling, they saw live animal organs being cultivated in a box-like container.
“This is just too wicked…” Tina whispered, her voice trembling with disgust.
Isabella closed her eyes and sighed deeply. Despite her many encounters with the demon race on the battlefield, she had to admit that this succubus was more evil than all the demons she had ever faced combined.
“This is one of the true faces of that succubus…” Tina murmured, her soul shivering as the fear buried deep within her heart resurfaced, gripping her once again.
“Cheer up!” Isabella’s firm voice rang out, pulling Tina back from the brink of despair.
“What we need to do now is find a way to stop her from continuing these misdeeds!” Isabella declared, her determination unshaken.
Tina nodded, the strength of Isabella’s words giving her the resolve to act. “I understand… I will go to the lab’s cold storage to get seeds and hatchlings!”
Using the knowledge Lolth had shared with her, Tina retrieved a special magic bag from under a nearby table. The bag, enhanced with various protections—low-temperature freezing, time delay, and protective wind—was clearly a rare and valuable item.
Carrying the bag, she made her way to the innermost section of the laboratory’s cold storage. Following the required protocol, she sterilized herself, activated the magic essence vacuum environment, and opened the cold storage. Working quickly, she retrieved seven or eight sealed containers filled with seeds, seedlings, young animals, and eggs in a half-hatched state, carefully stuffing them into the magic bag.
Once finished, Tina hurried out of the cold storage and waved the bag toward Isabella, who was waiting anxiously outside.
“Got it! Let’s go quickly!” she called, her voice urgent and resolute.
