Chapter 48: Nursery-Level Monsters Are Also a Big Problem
Lolth had already noticed that Tina and Isabella were plotting something, but she remained unaware of the exact nature of their “plans.”
Her good mood left her unconcerned, as she felt an exhilarating excitement akin to a young bird preparing for its first flight, a teenager receiving a love confession, or someone achieving their lifelong dream.
In Lolth’s eyes, leaving the Demon King Castle and living in a remote rural town is the beginning of the life she has always dreamed of!
“Mr. King has some land, oh yeah~”
Humming a familiar tune from her homeland, Lolth slipped into a loose black hoodie with a deep hood, adding a hat to obscure her pointed ears and tucking her long tail neatly into her pants to avoid startling any humans she might encounter.
However, she didn’t expect to run into anyone today.
Her goal was to explore Hillenbrand Town and familiarize herself with the surrounding terrain. The rare chance to stroll in an area free of sulfuric fumes was a welcome change, but her primary focus remained on planning future developments.
Figuring out where to place the ecological chambers, warehouses, greenhouses, automated farms, and other upcoming projects required careful thought and planning.
Considering it was her territory and it would impact her future quality of life, Lolth was determined not to slack off on this matter.
The torture tower was located on high ground in the northeast of the town, which was the highest point near the town, even though it was just a gentle slope of less than a hundred meters and couldn’t be called a hill.
However, this gentle slope extended southward and connected to a low, hilly forest area a few hundred meters south of the town.
Lolth decided to take a walk south first.
The view from the torture tower gave her a rough idea of the layout of the town.
Not far to the west of town was a tributary of the Larech River. Along the riverbank and the flat plains to the north of town, the land was fertile and lush, where residents had developed a few small farms and pastures.
Lolth had no intention of taking over land that already belonged to someone else. She noticed that there was also a sizable flat area near the southern mountain forest, which would be suitable for various industries with the mountain behind it and the water nearby. However, she wondered why nobody had utilized that area yet.
Perhaps the river followed a winding path, making it difficult to develop due to its slightly rapid flow, and the population of Hillenbrand Town was not yet too dense.
Still, Lolth really liked that land.
Even without using magic, her stamina was quite good. She quickly walked south along the east side of town and arrived at the open space in the south of town.
When she got there, Lolth found it even more suitable than she had imagined!
Not only was the land flat and the river abundant, but the forest located at the southern end of the town had a perfect slope and lush vegetation.
This area could truly be developed for agriculture, forestry, fishing, and animal husbandry!
They could even raise some farm animals with longer growth cycles — after all, free-range meat has better nutritional value and taste than home-raised ones!
However, in her excitement, Lolth quickly discovered why this place had not been developed.
The rivers and forests in this area had a faint residue of magic.
From the wooden fences and stone walls in the south of Hillenbrand Town to the watchtowers by the river, it was clear that the residents were wary of something in the south.
With a slight activation of Magic Essence Perception, Lolth sensed that there were hundreds of weak magical creatures moving around in the swift, deep rivers and forests to the south.
They were very weak, the strongest being only a few creatures that could barely be considered at an Elite Level.
There were hardly any creatures classified at the official level, mostly equivalent to human apprentices and easily killed by three or five adults, being super-weak magical creatures.
Despite their weakness, their numbers likely posed a certain problem for the townspeople.
Of course, for Lolth, these creatures did not pose any real threat.
Compared to the monsters in the abyss, as long as you could survive, most of them started at the Elite Level. It’s like a kindergarten here!
In the abyss, there are only two possibilities for high-level monsters to survive: either they are protected young or juvenile individuals, or they belong to a large group.
However, Lolth did not intend to exterminate all the monsters here directly.
These weak monsters might be useful in the future — after all, in the process of improving existing edible animals and plants in the past, Lolth had not hesitated to transplant magical properties to those things.
Many successful cases have significantly improved the taste of crops and livestock.
Some of them even developed many interesting attributes. Although they were not included in daily cultivation, their samples were all kept by Lolth.
Therefore, Lolth decided to solve the problem of monster invasion here in other ways.
