Chapter 45: Concerns from the Residents of Hillenbrand Town
As Lolth got a good look at the ordinary and neatly arranged buildings of Hillenbrand Town, the residents of Hillenbrand Town also noticed the sudden appearance of the black spire on the high slope in the northeast corner of the town.
The first to notice were several children playing on an open space at the foot of the high slope.
“Quick, look at that! What is it?”
A little girl in a rough cloth dress with short black hair pointed at the torture tower that suddenly appeared on the high slope, and shouted.
Although only half the original height, the tower was still much taller than any of the other buildings in town, including the Adventurer’s Union. Its black exterior and obsidian material emitted a sinister aura that made all the children who saw it turn back immediately!

A group of children who looked like they were seven or eight years old, spoke fearfully and excitedly about everything they knew about the Abyssal Demons.
When Kano heard this, she didn’t seem too scared, but instead nodded and looked toward the black tower.
“Do you think this tower could be the Abyssal Demon’s building?”
Kano wondered out loud.
Her words startled all the children.
“It kind of looks like it. This tower looks so wicked!”
“The Abyssal Demon must be coming to eat us!”
“Go quickly to inform the mayor and the elders!”
“Run fast! We’re going to be captured by the Abyssal Demon!”
The children became more and more frightened as they ran quickly toward the town, shouting and screaming.
Kano hesitated for a moment, but eventually followed her friends back.
Soon, the children returned to the town, and the sound of their shouting could be heard throughout the streets and alleys.
“The Abyssal Demon is coming! The Abyssal Demon is coming!”
“The Abyssal Demon is coming to eat people!”
Some of the adults had already noticed the appearance of the black spire, but the children’s shouts alerted everyone even more.
Hillenbrand Town was quite isolated, with very few outsiders visiting except for the tax officials during tax season.
But before fleeing, the nobles and defeated soldiers who passed through this place let it be known that the Abyssal Demon had captured the western front.
However, the people of Hillenbrand Town had never imagined that the Abyssal Demon would actually come here!
