Chapter 44: Avenging Master Lolth
“Oh my goodness, look, the tower of the Interrogation Department is gone!”
“What’s happening, was this place attack?”
“Quick, go inform the Demon King!”
“Our interrogator must be safe!”
“Ro-se-big-man-”
“Damn it, it must be those darn Holy Alliance, let’s go seek revenge on them!”
“Cursed humans! Cursed elves! Cursed Orcs!”
After a huge spatial fluctuation settled down, many demons in the Demon King Castle were shocked to discover that half of the Torture Tower, where the Interrogation Department was located, had vanished.
Since Abyssal Demons rarely practiced spatial magic, teleportation arrays were considered unnecessary for most demon race members who could navigate effortlessly day or night. In the chaotic magical environment of the abyss, the lack of expertise in teleportation magic among the more straightforward demons led many to believe the recently esteemed interrogator had been killed.
Suddenly, all the demon race members were stirred up, with groups of fierce-looking demons abandoning their tasks to voice their concerns. Especially the Balrogs, trolls, and spirits, who were also favored by Lolth, dropped what they were holding and began wailing in grief. They pounded their chests and stamped their feet, determined to either retrieve the esteemed interrogator or seek revenge.
Luckily, the Demon Tower had noticed the spatial disturbance early and quickly identified it as the work of Lolth herself. So, when Doyle Candice sensed something was wrong, she swiftly used the city-wide communication system of Demon Tower to make an announcement.
“A message to all demon race members: The spatial disturbance at the Torture Tower was caused by the activation of the Teleportation Magic Circle, relocating the tower to its new location in the West. Interrogator Lolth Linda Falk Socabus is safe and sound, having arrived at her domain in Hillenbrand Town. Please do not spread rumors, do not believe rumors, and remain calm.”
Once Doyle’s voice echoed through the system, the panicked demon race members stopped their cries and recognized their rash behavior. They quickly settled down, somewhat embarrassed, and began making excuses.
“I knew Master Lolth would be fine!”
“Master Lolth Linda actually used the Teleportation Magic Circle to move the Interrogation Department. Truly impressive! She achieved what we couldn’t!”
“She must have used some kind of powerful magic… Well hidden!”
“Once we arrive in the West, we must visit Master Lolth’s domain… What was it called again?”
“Hillenbrand Town—don’t underestimate it. It’s said to hold hidden secrets and was entrusted to Lord Lolth by the Demon King to protect!”
“Yes, our legion leader Zakavido mentioned that the Demon King herself spoke of this town. It’s not as simple as it seems!”
“Could it be hiding powerful beings from other races or humans?”
“That means Master Lolth will have new captives to interrogate, and we will have access to new, accurate information too!”
“Choosing a fief for the greater good—truly setting a good example for us!”
“Learning from Master Lolth!”
“Yes, this kind of spirit is truly worth emulating for all Abyssal Demons!”
The Abyssal Demons began speaking, their admiration and respect for Lolth evident in their words, even if they were framed diplomatically.
Many demons who had little prior knowledge of Lolth gained a better understanding through those who “knew the inside story.” As a result, Lolth’s reputation grew, and her prestige slightly increased within the Demon Army.
Of course, Lolth, who had already been relocated, remained unaware of this turn of events.
Had she known that her simple choice had caused such a stir, she might have regretted it.
At this moment, Lolth sat in the secret control room of the Torture Tower, gazing at the display screen made up of countless magic crystals on the control panel after all the magic arrays had been activated.
“It looks like the transfer was successful… Show the current coordinates!”
Lolth manipulated the control panel, causing the magic crystals to light up and converge into a map. The flashing light finally indicated her current location.
“We’ve arrived at Hillenbrand Town, with a deviation of less than three hundred meters, and all magic arrays are functioning normally!”
Yay, we’ve landed safely.
Lolth let out a deep breath, closed all the magic circles, opened the door to the secret room, and stepped outside.
The entrance to the secret room was located at the corner of the rooftop pasture of the tower. After opening the door, one could directly access the rooftop pasture.
Climbing the watchtower by the side of the pasture, Lolth looked out over the clear blue sky with no obstructions, white clouds drifting by, and the gentle rise of smoke from the nearby town with red-tiled, white-walled houses. There was no trace of the sulfuric stench of the abyss in the air, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief.
“This feels wonderful!”
