Chapter 38: The Choice of Dear Lolth Did Not Disappoint!
Little Devil Doyle Candice was currently the most favored individual in the Little Devil clan by the Demon King.
As the head of the Messenger Department in the Demon Tower, Doyle’s power might not compare to the heads of other departments in the Demon Army or the legionnaire leaders of various legions. However, her role was indispensable due to the nature of her work.
Though most demons considered her power slightly below the epic level, ranking just above elite at the Superlative Level, Doyle commanded immense respect. She had cultivated her unique influence by leveraging her position and her affiliation with the Little Devil clan.
The “Little Devil Guild,” under Doyle’s presidency, encompassed key organizations such as the “Little Devil Publishing House,” “Abyss Auction House,” “Comprehensive Transport Team,” and “Demon King Castle Agency.” These entities formed the backbone of the Demon King Castle’s economy, earning the guild the nickname “Trading Square Legion.”
Doyle Candice is the president of this guild.
This fella is much smarter than other Abyssal Demons.
As she walked back to the Demon Tower, map in hand, she pondered Lolth’s recent decisions.
“Hmm… Master Lolthlinda is indeed a quite strange person.”
From their very first meeting, Doyle had noticed Lolth’s peculiarities. Despite being a succubus, Lolth showed no interest in matters of reproduction or desire. She appeared unambitious yet gave the impression of seeing through everything. She disregarded the Demon King’s favor yet was unusually passionate about establishing the Interrogation Department.
Doyle had always maintained a cautious attitude toward Lolthlinda.
On the western battlefield, the crucial information Lolth provided led to a decisive victory for the Demon Army. It was then that Doyle realized the Demon King’s unwavering favor towards Lolth was entirely justified.
This time, the Demon King and the interrogator had again demonstrated remarkable foresight.
However, Doyle couldn’t help but feel that Lolth’s decisions weren’t as straightforward as they seemed.
“But… Hillenbrand Town is too ordinary! It doesn’t have any value at all!”
After thinking for a while on the road, Doyle still couldn’t figure out what Lolth’s intentions were.
In her opinion, the only possibility was that the interrogator was noble and modest, unwilling to steal credit from other frontline soldiers. Considering their conduct so far, it wasn’t impossible! But Doyle vaguely felt that things were not that simple.
With a receipted map in hand, she flew through the long corridor and arrived at the top floor of the Demon King’s palace in Demon Tower.
The place was vast and open, with walls resembling cliffs and a dome almost like the sky.
Under a gray-black hue, there was a huge altar in the center, with black translucent curtains hanging from six tall stone pillars, vaguely revealing a giant human-shaped figure lying sideways in the middle.
The figure had contours resembling mountain ranges, muscles and lines sharply defined, and massive spiraling ram horns that were thicker and more majestic than the tusks of a Behemoth.
Throughout the palace, there echoed a sound like a bellows, mixed with a piercing wail as if from the depths of an unknown abyss—this was the heavy breathing of the Demon King.
No matter how many times she came, facing the armor-less Demon King, Doyle Candice could not muster any resistance.
This was the Demon King, the supreme ruler of the chaotic abyss, the king among kings, commanding with absolute power.
“Demon King.”
Doyle Candice respectfully knelt before the altar, gently bowing.
“Doyle, has Dear Lolth… give you her reply?”
The figure on the altar remained still, and a booming voice echoed from all directions once again.
“Yes, Demon King,” Doyle said, placing the map on the first step of the altar in front of him. After a green light flashed, the map disappeared. “Master Lolthlinda has chosen her personal territory and the new location for the Interrogation Department… It’s in Hillenbrand Town and its surroundings.”
After Doyle Candice finished speaking, there was a brief silence from the Demon King.
Soon after, a deep chuckle filled the air.
“Ho-ho-ho, hahaha!”
The unmistakable laughter of the ultimate villain rang out, leaving Doyle Candice feeling shocked.
While the Demon King did not always exhibit her overwhelming power and authority in front of Doyle, even showing various emotions at times, a burst of unrestrained laughter like this was extremely rare, even for her.
Indeed… Is there a deeper meaning behind Master Lolth’s choice of location?
Just as Doyle Candice was feeling puzzled, the Demon King’s words of praise rang out.
“It’s no wonder it’s Dear Lolth, always able to make decisions that surprise me!”
“Sure enough, her perception and intelligence are even sharper than I imagined!”
“But… she really does enjoy taking on challenging tasks!”
This series of compliments made Doyle realize that her understanding of Lolthlinda Falt Sokabus was just the tip of the iceberg.
She had indeed underestimated Master Lolthlinda’s cunning and schemes!
Throughout the Demon King’s castle, someone who could earn such high praise from the Demon King with just three sentences was almost unheard of.
Indeed, the Demon King and the interrogator were truly strong at the same level—at least in terms of strategy.
The Demon Army was not lacking legendary great lords or epic leaders. Even a Little Devil like myself was above the elite Superlative Level.
However, there were very few Abyssal Demons with strategic wisdom!
Perhaps this was why the Demon King had always esteemed the Succubus Interrogator, whose power had not yet equaled her own!
However, the more Doyle realized the terror of Lolth, the more curious she became about the significance of her choices.
“Demon King, Hillenbrand Town… is there anything special about it? Could it be hiding some secret of the Holy Alliance?”
She couldn’t help but ask aloud.
The Demon King heard Doyle’s rare proactive question and, despite the audacity, was not angered. She simply chuckled disdainfully again.
“The Holy Alliance? It’s just a symbol of an alliance formed by a bunch of inexperienced fools. They aren’t worthy of hiding any secrets… at least, not secrets that would make me or dear Lolth take notice.”
“However, this continent is far more complex than it appears!”
“Even dear Lolth might face difficulties this time… but it’s okay, she always looks calm and detached, which really bothers me.”
The Demon King sharply criticized the Holy Alliance and the many forces behind it.
At the same time, she mentioned something that would shock Doyle Candice even more.
“What is Hillenbrand Town hiding? Soon, the whole continent will know!”
