Chapter 35: I Feel Your Loyalty, Now Go Move Bricks!
Isabella hesitated before deciding to feign submission to Lolth.
She received a very thorough education in traditional knighthood as a noble, just like the Schwarzwald family itself. She embodied noble honor and pride as a knight.
Loyalty, bravery, fearlessness, a pioneering spirit, and initiative—these admirable qualities in her beliefs sustained her as she willingly lived a monk-like life in the past, almost devoid of emotions and entertainment. Day by day, she became stronger, even to the point of dominance.
However, these dogmatic beliefs were a double-edged sword.
If not for the anti-magic shackles and the Curse of Weakness, Isabella might have decisively ended her own life long ago.
Showing “submission” to a succubus, even if it was feigned, was a colossal disgrace to her.
Luckily, Isabella was not overly old-fashioned.
After weighing the pros and cons, she realized that this was indeed her best choice. Regardless of whether Tina was deceiving herself, only by making the succubus drop her guard could Isabella have a chance to escape—or sacrifice herself meaningfully.
Otherwise, it would only bring shame to her family!
Thinking about the possibility that her father and mother might already feel ashamed of her capture, Isabella felt deeply upset. She had to do something to erase the “shame” caused by her capture!
It was this kind of thinking that convinced Isabella. What made her somewhat relieved was that the succubus seemed unaware of her lies and truly trusted her.
No… that’s not right.
She is the interrogator of the Demon Army, a crafty succubus!
Even Tina had just reminded her that this seemingly ordinary succubus might be more cunning than she imagined. Maybe everything was part of a bigger plan.
But…
Since it had already begun, she could only bravely continue acting.
“No matter what, it would be best if you stop causing trouble,” Lolth’s voice came from above Isabella’s head. “Next, besides tasting delicious food, there are still many ways we can use your abilities…”
As Lolth spoke, Isabella’s body shivered slightly once again.
She lifted her head and met Lolth’s gaze.
Those eyes held a faint smile, seemingly unconcerned about what Isabella was thinking.
“Use where they belong…”
Isabella thought this expression meant Lolth was being secretive.
But she didn’t have time to dwell on it too much; she simply continued mechanically acting out her “expected” reactions.
“It’s my honor to serve you,” Isabella said, then slightly bowed.
“You don’t have to bow every time; I’m not that old-fashioned… Oh, you nobles,” Lolth said helplessly.
“Alright, let me give you some simple tasks first,” Lolth thought for a moment before continuing. “It’s a bit beneath you as a human noble and knight to do the same cleaning and plant care work as Tina…”
Lolth felt like she should act as a leader, recognizing people’s abilities and assigning tasks accordingly.
It made sense to have nature-loving elves take care of the farm, but having a noble knight perform these tasks seemed…
Lolth was very concerned that her precious cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, chickens, ducks, pigs, dogs, and lambs might be overfed by Isabella.
However, Lolth soon came up with a good idea.
“Hey, since you’re a noble knight, you must be very strong. In that case, since we’re moving in a few days anyway, why don’t you start by clearing out the warehouse and piling everything together!”
With that, Lolth clapped her hands and made a decision.
Then, she motioned to Isabella.
“Come on, follow me to the warehouse!”
Without waiting for Isabella to respond, she left the interrogation room.
Isabella quickly followed Lolth’s lead.
One by one, a succubus and Isabella walked through a long corridor and passed interrogation rooms, which made Isabella realize more about Lolth’s ambitions—just like Tina had.
At the same time, she thought of something deeper.
It seemed that the Demon Army’s lack of intelligence and tendency to charge without thinking were not true!
If they didn’t care about intelligence, why would they invest in building so many interrogation rooms for the Interrogation Department?
Each interrogation room showed clear signs of magical spatial energy, indicating the use of spatial magic for expansion.
This must have cost a fortune!
Moreover, this was just one layer of the whole scheme.
If it wasn’t for the Demon King’s attention to the Interrogation Department, the money for these rooms couldn’t have been obtained through deceit by the succubus, right?
With these thoughts, Isabella felt even more determined to escape.
We must tell the Holy Alliance the “truth” about the Demon Army… Otherwise, in the upcoming war, the Holy Alliance might suffer significant losses!
If they were ambushed this time, it would probably be seen as a coincidence, like the Northman Knight Order being unlucky, and their own capture as merely unfortunate.
Just like… when the Moon Elf Princess was captured.
If nobody warned them, the Holy Alliance would need to pay a greater price to truly understand the “truth” about the Demon Army.
While she was thinking about this, Lolth led Isabella to the entrance of a storage warehouse.
She opened the large doors, revealing piles of iron farming tools, kitchenware, and various items like hellstone, obsidian, and abyssal flame wood.
“I’ve heard that you could battle the dragon lady, Shelldor, face-to-face, so you should be as strong as her… Please move all these items to the empty rooms on the upper floors of the torture tower. I have set up some special spatial magic arrays there for later relocation.”
Lolth explained this and then left.
Isabella, looking confused, stayed in place, gazing at the warehouse, which seemed larger than the palace. It was filled with hundreds of tools like hoes, plows, sickles, and axes, along with several sets of iron pots, ovens, and grills, as well as walls of stones, metals, and wood.
When Isabella regained consciousness, her cold face showed a hint of displeasure.
“Exactly… she doesn’t trust me at all.”
The succubus from earlier seemed to be mocking and taunting her.
Now, it was even easier to challenge herself.
Why was she being made to move these things like a laborer? To torture her body and soul?
Like someone in a myth who offended the gods and was punished to push a stone.
Isn’t there a Golem Puppet from the Demon Army that could be used as a laborer?
Even if there isn’t…
If they truly trusted her and wanted her help, they would surely lift her Curse of Weakness, wouldn’t they?
This clever succubus certainly hadn’t forgotten, had she?
