Chapter 28: This Succubus Must Die!
When she reached Trading Square, Isabella used the last of her strength to conceal her presence, and slipped into a transport cart filled with treasures from many defeated knights, where she rested among the items to try and recover.
Her clever disguise, along with the items emitting similar energy as that of human knights, actually fooled all the demon creatures, who were heavily pursuing her.
Even Achilles, the Balrog Lord who was chasing after her and who had fallen behind, lost track of Isabella’s whereabouts.
The demon creatures here never expected a legendary human knight like her to be able to sneak away from them.
The cart of treasures was pushed into a makeshift warehouse, giving Isabella a chance to catch her breath.
Blocking the passage to Dragonspine Mountain mine, battling two Abyssal Sovereigns, and fleeing for miles had drained her energy reserves to the limit.
Her magic, strength, and unwavering will had been almost completely depleted.
In order to flee again or cause a commotion in the future to make her escape, Isabella knew she needed a moment’s rest first.
Otherwise, with her current terrible state, even if a few Elite Level Demon Army soldiers surrounded her in this “market” and attacked her, she would definitely lose!
Compared to the naive Tina, Isabella had a better understanding about the Demon Army. She didn’t believe, like that little girl, that the Demon Army and Abyssal Demon were just as the Holy Alliance described them – barbaric, backward, cruel, and chaotic.
She quickly realized that she had arrived at the legendary Demon King Castle “Trading Square.”
However, this was her first time experiencing the true aura of the Demon Army.
While waiting for her magic and strength to recover, Isabella hid in a warehouse and listened to some “useful” information amidst the noisy shouting to analyze the current situation she found herself in.
Mostly, the conversations she heard were from the transport officials and intelligence officers returning from the western front that day.
From them, Isabella finally understood the key to her failed ambush earlier.
“Master Lolth’s intelligence was crucial!”
“If it weren’t for the interrogator conquering that Elf Princess, the Holy Alliance might have succeeded again this time!”
“Truly worthy of being the Demon King’s chosen interrogator!”
“Yes, I am from the Second Legion. Lord Shelldor insisted on trusting the information provided by the interrogator, so we successfully ambushed the reinforcements at Dragonspine Mountain!”
“I heard that the Demon King has summoned Lolthlinda; there must be great rewards awaiting her!”
“That captured Moon Elf truly deserves praise too, haha!”
All of this happened because of one… interrogator.
As a result of this, Isabella was filled disbelief.
Because she had a deep understanding of the Demon Army, she came to the realization that the Demon Army’s Intelligence Department and Interrogation Department were underestimated this time!
Without that Abyssal Sovereign or legionnaire leader, who favored using intelligence, the Demon Army wouldn’t have succeeded.
Shelldor’s commanding ability, prudence, and sharpness were already exceptional among the Demon Army’s rough generals, but she hardly ever used intelligence!
But lying among a pile of treasures seized by the Holy Alliance, Isabella calmed down and thought about a terrifying fact.
The fact that she was in a huge crisis because the Demon Army suddenly used crucial information was true.
In other words, it was also true that the Demon Army actually never used intelligence.
Considering the impression that the Demon Army did not use intelligence and tactics in the past, there were two possibilities.
One was that that the Demon Army was changing from this point onward.
The other was that more significantly the interrogator frequently mentioned in the Demon King Castle actually understood the importance of intelligence and interrogation.
However, that individual deliberately allowed the Demon Army to not use intelligence in the past, which went on to deceive the entire Holy Alliance!
In reality, the Demon Army could use intelligence at any time!
Furthermore, it would be extremely advantageous!
‘Was my own defeat caused by thinking that the “Demon Army wouldn’t use intelligence” ever?’
Maybe that was the other side’s goal this entire time!
‘If the other side really planned this, then my position as the leader of the Northman Knight Order at legend level is already in trouble.’
‘But…’
‘Am I really just the other side’s pawn? To be used and shaped according to their will from now on?’
Since the “impression” of the Holy Alliance had followed a particular pattern, it wouldn’t be easy to change that sort of thinking in such a short amount of time!
Even now, there was no sign of it starting to change!
After all, it was only when she was inside the Demon King Castle and heard those conversations that she realized this!
The other Holy Alliance commanders probably wouldn’t be able to realize this in the short term they were given!
Even if the western front fell, they couldn’t undo the Demon Army’s “excellent intelligence work.”
Thinking of this, even the usually cold and rational Isabella felt a hint of worry, even fear.
This fear stemmed from the rather unsolvable problem.
‘No, no, no…’
There had to be a solution!
She had to remind the Holy Alliance, or…
Kill the mastermind, kill that interrogator!
Faced with the two options, Isabella obviously thought the former was simpler.
But as she was about to make a decision…
She heard some new greetings that happened to reach her.
“Sir Interrogator, you’re here!”
“Master Lolth!”
“Is this the Elf Princess you trained?”
That woman actually showed up in this Trading Square!
In that instant, Isabella, who never believed in fate, almost thought this was fate’s gift to her!
She struggled to get up, looked through the warehouse vent, and finally spotted the interrogator of the demon race who was in the middle of buying some books.
It was a succubus that looked rather average in strength.
Following behind her was Moon Elf Tina, who wasn’t wearing any shackles but was dressed in a very embarrassing maid outfit, with a numb and submissive expression, avoiding eye contact and who seemed to be filled with fear.
“Indeed, has this captured Moon Elf fallen?”
Isabella squeezed her fists tightly.
The instigator and the traitor… both must perish!
This was not just for the defeat on the western front, the peace of the continent, but also to truly live up to the honorable surname of Schwarzwald and that crimson family emblem!
She absolutely did not want to become like that Moon Elf.
Thinking until there, Isabella dragged her heavily wounded body, enduring both pain and exhaustion, and picked up a knight’s spear from the pile of spoils.
“For Ryman, for the glory of the Northman Knight Order!”
She recited silently, mustering the last bit of her strength. After that, Isabella raised the spear, and charged toward the evil succubus and the fallen elf in front of her.
