Chapter 23: This Reward Is Too Tempting!
After reading Shelldor’s report, Lolth was utterly puzzled.
What was she talking about? What signs? What ambush?
How did everything match up so perfectly?
It seemed like she had made it all up randomly!
Excited, Lolth even stood up from the ground and blurted out involuntarily,
“What in the world is this all about?”
However, the Demon King didn’t seem to mind this outburst. Perhaps it was because Lolth had performed so well. The Demon King, known for being both mysterious and stern, actually smiled.
“Hahaha!”
The loud laughter echoed through the Abyssal Hall, causing the chandeliers on the ceiling to sway slightly.
“It seems Dear Lolth is a bit unhappy about General Shelldor letting the enemy go. Indeed, Dear Lolth’s intelligence is so precise, and yet she missed the Northman Knight Order!”
As the Demon King spoke, the giant armor’s head nodded gently, as if in agreement.
“I am fortunate to have such excellent and dedicated talent like Dear Lolth in my Demon Army! Promoting you to be the head of the Interrogation Department was truly a wise decision!”
Lolth couldn’t help but twitch her mouth at the Demon King’s praise.
Excellent? Dedicated?
She could hardly believe these words were being associated with her!
And they came from the Demon King’s mouth, no less!
Moreover, her title had changed from “Lolth Lin Da” to “Dear Lolth.”
It was obvious the Demon King was not only very happy but also highly satisfied with her.
For any other member of the Demon Army, this kind of recognition would be electrifying, filling them with magic power. If a fanatical worshiper of the Demon King had been present, they might have fainted on the spot.
For Lolth, it doesn’t have that kind of effect.
She is a nobody, it’s useless to seek the Demon Lord’s approval.
In fact, for her, being overlooked was ideal—it made slacking off much easier!
Yet, the Demon King’s words did remind Lolth of something important.
Although things hadn’t gone exactly as she planned, she had to act like everything was under control.
If the made-up information she provided were exposed, she’d be in big trouble.
Even if the Demon King spared her life out of kindness, the punishment waiting for her would surely be harsh.
Clearing her throat, Lolth gave a slight bow to the Demon King and continued,
“Thanks to Your Majesty’s exceptional judgment in choosing capable people, and the efforts of the Western Front generals who captured the Elf Princess, I had the opportunity to extract valuable information through interrogation!”
Lolth spoke modestly, sincerely wanting to share the credit. She didn’t want a promotion or for the Demon King to assign her more tasks, valuing her contributions even further.
However, when she thought about it carefully, it wasn’t right to deceive and not show any concrete achievements after using so much funding…
But the problem was that the first results that were shown were amazing!
What did it mean when they said, “If it weren’t for the valuable information provided by the interrogator, we would have suffered heavy losses in this battle”?
Shelldor, what are you up to?
No, it doesn’t seem like it’s Shelldor’s fault…
We should blame the Holy Alliance!
Is your flanking maneuver that easy to understand?
Can’t you pick a different location? It’s always the same, attacking wherever we draw the map!
Lolth couldn’t help but criticize the unfamiliar commander of the Northman Knight Order in her heart.
“If I catch that incompetent person, I will have to teach her a lesson on what true military strategy is! The Northman Knight Order claims to be the greatest knight order on the continent, invincible… I think they are just a bunch of hot air!”
But no matter what Lolth thought secretly in her heart, what had to happen would still happen.
“Dear Lolth, even though the battles in the west have not completely settled, I have decided to reward you and the Interrogation Department greatly. I will reward you with a thousand top-quality Abyssal Crystals, and after conquering the west, Abyssal Demons will establish a new rule there. You can choose a territory ten times the size of the torture tower for the Interrogation Department!”
With a wave of the Demon King’s hand, a pitch-black bag suddenly appeared in the air in front of Lolth.
Lolth reached out her hand, and the bag fell neatly into her grasp.
Although it was only the size of two palms and very plain in style, Lolth knew that just the value of this bag was already worth three or four interrogation rooms!
Just like the storage rings in cultivation novels, this bag was a magical bag with added space magic, of top quality!
Being able to hold a thousand Abyssal Crystals meant that its interior space was at least as big as a warehouse, with functions like preventing magic loss, reducing weight, and auto-retrieval!
It could even withstand a magical attack of Superlative Level!
Despite her worries about gaining the Demon King’s attention in the future, seeing this bag made Lolth feel a lot better!
And Abyssal Crystal is the most valuable currency of the Abyss!
Inside the Demon Army, there are Abyssal Sovereigns who were recruited by the Demon King herself. With different factions and a variety of demon creatures living there, a tradition of sharing half of the loot and keeping half privately among different races and legions has been in place. Although logistical supplies are distributed by the Demon King Castle, each Abyssal Sovereign also contributes resources from their territory.
For example, the Second Legion of Shelldor receives support from the Red Dragon clan, and some demon dragon clans still residing in the Abyss provide various Abyss-produced foods and minerals for the Dragon race.
Therefore, it is inevitable that there is currency circulation throughout the Demon King Castle.
The currency in circulation is the Abyssal Crystal!
This is the hardest currency in most of the Abyss territories!
Because it contains the purest Abyss magic, for every Abyss creature, it is essential to enhance strength, quickly replenish magic, and produce Magic Potions or magical devices!
With a bunch of Abyssal Crystals, Lolth could do many things!
Although the ecological chambers that were planned have been mostly built, and simple farms and pastures have been established in an orderly manner, when the Abyssal Demons no longer liked their food, Lolth’s dream of getting rich by selling human food at Demon King Castle was shattered.
Many plans were also put on hold.
After all, this lazy woman would abandon plans at the slightest setback!
Plus, those fancy plans were not necessary for a better life; they were just extra.
Especially when the Demon King not only sent magic crystals but also said she had prepared a territory for her!
A territory ten times the size of the torture tower, almost like a small town!
After receiving the rewards, realizing she could now proceed with the plans she had put aside, Lolth’s mind was filled with just two words.
“So cool!”
