Chapter 22: It’s All Thanks to Miss Interrogator!
Most of the time, Lolth was reluctant to go to the Demon Tower.
The reason was the same as last time when she turned back halfway: the Demon Tower was too far away.
In the corridors of the Demon Tower, running, riding mounts, and even using magic runes were mostly prohibited.
All the ways to slack off had been eliminated.
Most of the time, Lolth preferred to submit various approval budget documents to the Demon King through messengers or by having someone else deliver them.
She had personally delivered the intelligence the other day only because it was her first interrogation mission.
Of course, she still had Shelldor deliver it halfway.
But today, Lolth was very thankful for the Demon King’s summons because she desperately wanted to escape the awkward atmosphere from earlier.
At this moment, she followed behind the Little Devil flying in the air, walking along the corridor leading to the Demon Tower.
Even this messenger Little Devil looked quite pleasing to her.
Although this Little Devil had become one of the Demon King’s exclusive messengers, she was already quite good-looking.
She was only one-third Lolth’s height, with a body and face resembling a human girl, bat-like wings that weren’t much bigger than a real bat’s, and somewhat translucent.
She wore a gothic-style little dress.
However, beneath this appearance, she concealed a brain ranking in the top three in average intelligence among all Abyssal Demons and a generally cunning personality.
“Lord Lolth, it seems she completely has the soul of that Elf Princess under control,” the little demon messenger said, slowly flapping her wings ahead of Lolth. “No wonder she was personally appointed by the Demon King as the interrogator! That’s why she submitted the intelligence in just one day!”
“Just kidding…”
Lolth couldn’t directly tell the demon king’s messenger that the information was made up, or else the demon king would punish her.
So, she just laughed it off and tried to deceive them.
The Little Devil didn’t seem surprised by Lolth’s vague response. She chuckled and continued, “Oh, but I heard it outside the door earlier. The proud Elf Princess called Lord Lolth her master! And her embarrassed outfit… quite amusing! If the elves found out that their princess had become a servant to a succubus, they’d surely go crazy!”
Hearing the Little Devil’s teasing, Lolth couldn’t help but twitch her mouth.
“I think you must have misunderstood something…”
She weakly explained.
“Ah, I understand. This kind of news can’t be revealed now. We have to wait for the right moment,” the Little Devil chuckled twice. “Impressive, Lord Lolth—no wonder the Demon King decided to summon and reward you even before the outcome of the western front battle was clear!”
“What nonsense is this?”
When Lolth heard what the Little Devil said, she became alert again.
Having a reward was good, but Lolth deeply knew that no work meant no reward!
Even though news of the victory on the western front had spread, those who had played a small part like herself might also receive some rewards.
But it wouldn’t make sense for her to be called for a reward meeting while the situation was still uncertain!
At first, she thought it was just a regular meeting.
Now, it seemed suspicious!
Could it be that the Demon King had discovered the information was fake and was preparing to execute her directly?
The Abyssal Hall might already be ambushed by eight hundred troll axemen. When the Demon King gave the signal, eight hundred Elite-Level or even Superlative-Level trolls and Barbarian Demons could charge out and mercilessly hack a poor, helpless succubus into pieces.
However, when Lolth regained her senses, she realized that dealing with her, a weak elite succubus, didn’t require such a big fuss!
Still, it was always best to be cautious. Lolth decided to be ready to run away at any time.
No matter what, with her hidden power, even a Demon King might not be able to catch her right away!
If things went wrong, she would simply vanish and leave without a trace!
With the chaos on the west side of the Holy Alliance, she could easily sneak off to a human kingdom, open a small restaurant selling special stews, hide her presence, and ensure no one could find her even after the war ended!
With these thoughts, Lolth felt calmer.
Soon, she arrived at the entrance of the Abyssal Hall
The Little Devil pushed open the heavy wooden door for her.
“Hey—Lord Lolth, please come inside!”
Lolth nodded and entered the Abyssal Hall.
She hadn’t been here many times, but the magnificent hall still left a deep impression on her.
Paintings, candles, carpets, domes…
And there, perched on the tall throne, was the Demon King, resembling a colossal statue!
“I am Lolthlinda Faerel Sokabus from the Interrogation Department, paying respects to the Demon King.”
Lolth knelt before the throne, showing a respectful gesture as she spoke.
The Demon King then spoke.
Her voice was a multitude of voices overlapping: like a man, like a woman, like an old man, and also like a child.
“Lolthlinda, you have done well!”
When Lolth heard this, she wasn’t sure if the Demon King was teasing or mocking her.
She quietly recited a spell for teleportation magic, preparing to use it to escape at any moment.
Then, the Demon King on the throne gently waved her arm.
In front of the throne of the Abyssal Hall, a figure appeared out of nowhere.
It was the face of Shelldor.
The Red Dragon Grand Monarch stood in the Demon Army camp on the western battlefield, with a background of chaotic warfare.
She had just been through a fierce battle, with scales and wounds visible on her face from recently ending her dragon form, looking very excited.
“Demon King, a great victory on the western battlefield! The credit goes to the Interrogation Department—the interrogator accurately predicted the Holy Alliance’s forces and the details, marked all camp locations accurately, and even included the Divine Artifact of the Molten Iron Fortress in her calculations!”
“Most importantly, the information from the interrogator also mentioned that enemy forces would attack from behind at the Dragonspine Mountain’s abandoned mine, and she even anticipated that the attackers would be the Northman Knight Order of the Ryman Empire—I must admit, I didn’t understand the meaning of the interrogator’s red cross mark at first, not until Isabella pointed out that it represented the Northman Knight Order’s flag…”
“Achilles and I fought off the invading Northman Knight Order… If we had understood the interrogator’s signs earlier, we might have been able to trap the whole knight group on the west side! However, we have also dealt a heavy blow to their leader, and Achilles is currently chasing them!”
“In short, without the interrogator’s information, we would have suffered heavy losses in this battle!”
