Chapter 212: A Chef Creates Hope Through Cooking!
“Kanor, intelligent beings cannot be used as ingredients, especially this turtle, as it is your friend.”
As Kanor’s master, Lolth felt it was her duty to teach her not only how to use extraordinary powers but also to shape the little girl’s worldview and moral values.
Clearly, while the tavern landlady provided for Kanor’s basic needs, there was a lack of spiritual education. This little girl didn’t even understand that cooking a talking turtle was highly inappropriate, which somewhat surprised Lolth.
You must alter Kanor’s mindset!
After all, she plans to teach Kanor to attain at least epic-level extraordinary power, and she might even help raise several of her professions to epic-level.
An epic-level powerful individual, whether as an adventurer or part of any faction, is essentially a leader. In some small countries, they can even become the strongest in that nation. With basic common sense, becoming a duke in a small country is not particularly difficult.
So Lolth deeply understands the saying “With great power comes great responsibility,” which truly exists in this world of extraordinary powers.
To teach a powerful person, you must also take responsibility for shaping their character.
However, the turtle atop Kanor’s head remained quite calm.
“Oh, Lord Succubus, great Master Lolth, there’s no need to be so concerned. I have a good relationship with Kanor; she’s merely joking—this little girl knows her boundaries. On our pirate ship, we have a saying: ‘If you try to bind the waves, the sea will respond in kind.’ Free will is very important… children need space to grow freely!”
The turtle continued chatting, but Lolth smiled and shook her head, dismissing its words.
In Lolth’s eyes, this creature, even when not a turtle, is still essentially a little pirate. What profound insights could it possibly have on educating children?
Hearing Lolth’s teachings, Kanor nodded and displayed a serious expression.
“I understand, Master Lolth, I won’t try to cook you again.”
The turtle on her head heard Kanor’s serious tone and the content of her reply. It finally realized something was amiss, peered down to look at the solemn Kanor, and lost its playful demeanor.
“Hey, hey, hey, Kanor, my little chef, you are serious!” the turtle exclaimed in fright, “I thought you were joking every time you said you wanted to make me into soup!”
After the turtle spoke, Kanor didn’t respond, but in her gaze toward its head, the turtle detected a hint of regret.
The shivering turtle looked at Lolth, changed its expression, and said with a serious tone.
“You are right, Lord Lolth, this child needs a proper lesson… Children today are truly frightening. How did this ‘will’ choose such a young one…”
The turtle mumbled, jumped off Kanor’s hat, stood on its feet, and walked into the kitchen sink where it had resided for a long time, with its front limbs behind its shell.
“So, you may continue cooking without concern for me. I’m somewhat tired and need to rest.”
After saying this, it jumped into the sink, withdrawing its head and limbs inside its shell, and made no further sound.
“Look what you’ve done, you frightened it.”
Lolth made a “tsk tsk” sound, pursed her lips, looked at Kanor, and continued, “Remember, if you encounter a wise magical creature in the wild, don’t kill it if it shows no hostile intentions… Even if it appears dangerous, try to avoid killing it.”
“I know, Master Lolth,” Kanor nodded and glanced at the sink, lowering her voice. “I’m just scaring it… That fellow, even like this, if you don’t frighten it occasionally, it becomes quite bold.”
When Kanor said this, Lolth was momentarily taken aback, then she began to laugh.
“Alright… even I was fooled!”
She looked at Kanor, smiled, and shook her head, then began her own herbal cooking.
Meanwhile, Kanor also resumed her practice of baking fruit snacks, and the kitchen became bustling and lively for a while.
Although teacher and student were preparing completely different types of dishes, they surprisingly felt very similar sensations.
In Kanor’s hands, the kitchen tools constantly shifted form, with liquid metal flowing like mercury around the entire workspace. Kanor held a sharp knife in one hand, slicing fruit, while the sliced pieces were guided into a bowl by the “Versatile Kitchenware.” The uncut fruit was being gently pushed over as well. In her other hand, a tool resembling half a whisk extended out, continuing to whip the egg whites.
On Lolth’s side, ingredients filled with magical energy floated in the air as she cast simple spells on them. Several knives, controlled by magic, danced up and down in the air, chopping and slicing different ingredients. The faucet activated automatically, pouring clear water into a pot. Various seasonings hovered around the ingredients that needed to be marinated, with sea salt and pepper being evenly distributed over the meat and vegetables, quickly completing a marinating process that would normally take several hours under the influence of magic.
In fact, Lolth rarely cooked in this extravagant and flashy manner that utilized extensive magic; for her, cooking was more of a process to enjoy.
Using abundant magic and mystical techniques is akin to skipping all the story in a single-player game while activating cheat codes. While it increases efficiency, it removes much of the enjoyment.
The reason for employing this method today is simply because it is not the time to savor the experience.
The result she created is comparable to several high-quality Magic Potions; once Dorothy awakens, it will greatly benefit the weak body and spirit of that little girl.
Lolth understood deeply that her passion for cooking stems not only from the lengthy process of experimenting and creating but, more importantly… from the moment when good food brings happiness, assistance, and emotion to people.
This is the essence of cooking!
Watching Lolth’s movements, Kanor noticed that her teacher’s cooking style differed this time. Gradually, she paused her own work and retracted her Versatile Kitchenware, observing Lolth’s elegant yet grounded actions with a sense of wonder.
Although Lolth did not explicitly state it, the perceptive Kanor immediately understood why Lolth was so focused on “efficiency” today.
Lolth’s busy figure seemed to be imparting a vivid cooking lesson through her actions.
About the essence of cooking and being a chef.
“A chef is someone who brings smiles to others through cooking!”
“Indeed, becoming a great chef like Master Lolth and bringing happiness to people is what I am meant to do in this life.”
At that moment, Kanor affirmed her dream once again.
