Chapter 211: Is Turtle a Nourishing Ingredient?
“Is she going to be okay?”
In the Golden Peacock Kingdom’s special interrogation room, Isabella gently laid the unconscious Dorothy on a soft, feather-covered wooden bed. Looking at the little girl with her eyes closed and her face pale, Isabella couldn’t help but feel worried.
Although it was clear that Dorothy’s life force remained intact, her breathing was steady and even, making her appear as though she were merely asleep… Isabella still couldn’t determine what was wrong with the little girl.
In the laboratory, while Lolth channeled magic for Dorothy, Isabella had clearly seen how complicated the girl’s condition was—far beyond imagination.
The blood of a hero, an unknown curse, and that mixed power left a deep impression on her.
“There’s no problem, she just woke up too early and ran around; she fainted from exhaustion and mental stress.”
After a brief check, Lolth shook her head and said.
“This little girl is stronger than I thought. I initially believed she would need at least another day to wake up… But this second fainting spell is just temporary. She should wake up in about ten more minutes. I’m going to cook something for her… You two, keep an eye on her.”
Lolth said this as she walked out of the room.
Next to her, Tina heard Lolth’s words and nodded, using Moon Elf magic to set up a few calming and restorative spells around Dorothy, making the unconscious Dorothy look a bit more peaceful.
Isabella couldn’t help much, so she got up and said, “I’ll go get her a towel and a glass of water.”
Even though Dorothy wasn’t sick, Isabella, as a knight, only understood “taking care of someone” in this way.
After all, she herself had hardly ever been sick… Even when she was sick as a child, her father would just cheer her on, encouraging her to use her willpower to overcome her illness, not even allowing her to take medicine.
Seeing the two caring individuals, Lolth felt reassured and went straight toward the kitchen.
Once in the kitchen, however, Lolth found Kanor, who should have been heading back to the tavern, inexplicably here again, with a turtle on her head.
“Kanor, what are you doing here?”
Lolth showed a curious expression.
“Ah—Master Lolth, I… I didn’t do anything!”
Kanor said this and turned around with a nervous expression.
She tried to use her small body to hide the half-prepared ingredients on the table behind her, but that clearly wouldn’t work.
“Teacher, I’m not silly. Just say it. What’s the big deal?”
Lolth looked at the whipped egg whites, melted butter, and the sliced fruit, and said gently.
To her, it was just this little girl craving a treat for herself.
She completely understood this; when she was in a tough spot, she often wanted sweets after a long day of studying.
Unfortunately, getting a dessert in those tough times was really hard. Back then, she even had to secretly use magic to bring some plants and animals from the main plane.
Every time her cheap mom found out, she would give her a good beating.
The demon race in the abyss has strong healing abilities. In the past, human parents would punish their children with things like rolling pins, feather dusters, and belts, mostly using sticks and flexible tools. No matter what they were made of, they were still considered ordinary blunt weapons.
When Lolth was beaten in the abyss, she faced everything from tridents to maces, thorn whips to magical wands. Sometimes, magical tools were used with buffs added, and Lolth’s cries were so pitiful that several neighboring demons couldn’t stand it and came over with a couple of abyss beetles to tell Lolth’s mother to stop hitting her.
However, after the turtle above Kanor spoke, Lolth realized she had underestimated how mature this little girl was.
“Hey, my lord, aren’t you planning to start a cooking class at the school? This little girl also wants to compete for the cooking class mentor position but is afraid her skills aren’t good enough. So, before the school is built, she is rushing to practice every second!”
The turtle bluntly sold out Kanor.
“That’s not true! Don’t listen to what it says!”
Kanor’s little face turned red as she repeatedly denied it.
If Master Lolth knew that she secretly practiced to compete for the cooking mentor position, she would definitely think she lacked confidence, had no talent, and was too ambitious, leaving her very disappointed in herself!
But she truly believed that her cooking skills improved quickly while teaching others, which is why she wanted to give it a try!
However, Kanor did not hear the disappointed sigh she expected from Lolth; instead, she heard Lolth’s happy voice.
“Ah—it’s very kind of you to think of this, but next time just tell me directly,” Lolth said warmly to Kanor, thinking that this young girl knew how to help her. “In any case, just keep making the dessert you were working on—let me have a taste when it’s ready.”
With Lolth’s encouragement, Kanor looked up at Lolth’s smiling face, and the shadows in her heart disappeared.
“Yes! Master Lolth!”
She replied cheerfully and showed a curious expression.
“But… what is Master Lolth coming to do this time?”
When Lolth heard Kanor’s question, she didn’t hide her plans. While rolling up her sleeves and putting on an apron, she began to answer casually.
“Oh… it seems the little girl we rescued from the Golden Peacock, named Dorothy, is starting to wake up,” Lolth remarked while approaching the ingredient storage. She opened the bottom shelf using a simple magical seal. “Her condition is quite poor, so I intend to create something nourishing, utilizing the finest and rarest ingredients to prepare food that will aid her recovery.”
As Lolth spoke, she took out a few items that looked like ordinary vegetables and meats but clearly had an extraordinary magical energy.
Just like how sometimes powerful mutant monsters suddenly appear among ordinary magical creatures, these are “super” ingredients that Lolth nurtured and carefully cared for during two years of breeding and cultivation.
This time, it was also for Dorothy, and she took out about one-tenth of her stock all at once.
Just considering the amount of active magical power they contain, even some high-quality materials used for level six or seven Magic Potions cannot compare to these ingredients.
Kanor looked at these ingredients and then at the turtle resting on her head under her apprentice chef hat.
“Master Lolth, isn’t the turtle also a precious and nourishing ingredient—and it seems to have a lot of active magical power, too?”
