Chapter 19: Northman Knight, Charge! Northman Knight, Retreat!
The Ryman Northman Knight Order is indeed one of the most elite legions in the entire main plane.
Ten years ago, before the Abyssal Demon’s full invasion, the Ryman Empire was torn apart by a civil war for the throne due to the Emperor’s sudden death.
After a year and four months of turmoil, the fifth princess, supported by the Schwarzwald family, was crowned as the new Empress of Ryman.
The greatest credit for this victory went to the Ryman Northman Knight Order, directly commanded by the Grand Duke of the North.
After quelling the rebellion, they repelled invasions from the Republic of Seychelles and the United Kingdom of South Sotua, even reclaiming the Ryman Empire’s lost lands occupied by several Orc tribes.
Following the Abyssal Demon invasion, the Northman Knight Order was the first to withstand several waves of attacks by the Demon Army.
Despite the advanced age of the old Grand Duke Schwarzwald, who rarely went to the frontlines, inheriting the Northman Knight Order had made it an even more powerful force.
The heir of Schwarzwald, Isabella Anne Ruibert zu Schwarzwald, at the age of fifteen, was already a half-step legendary Grand Knight. By seventeen, she gained the approval of Ryman’s most majestic magical beast, the White Frost Direwolf. At twenty, she single-handedly defeated a Barbarian Demon Lord at the entrance to the abyss.
Her story was sung by minstrels almost as if it were legend.
Now twenty-two, despite the Ryman Empire often being marginalized within the Holy Alliance, the limit on the number of Northman Knight Order members meant that the legion she led would not be the main force.
However, the three hundred Wolf Cavalry vanguard, three hundred Light Armor Cavalry, and two hundred Heavy Armor Cavalry were all elite-level knights.
She was accompanied by the youngest Legend Level Knight in human history as a commander.
This was destined to be the sharpest spear of the Holy Alliance!
It was only with such a powerful legion holding the middle ground that they could withstand the almost unreasonably powerful Abyssal Sovereign, Shelldor!
Even those who harbored fear and caution towards the Ryman Empire had to admit the aloofness of this “Ryman Ice,” who was as cold as ice, as ruthless as iron, and even more brutal than an Abyssal Demon.
The Northman Knight Order was truly unbeatable.
Even with less than a thousand soldiers, they matched the organization and treatment of the main army, which spoke volumes.
In every battle, the Demon Army was always defeated, thanks to this small army of less than a thousand soldiers.
Only Isabella herself knew the truth.
What everyone saw was not the true strength of the Northman Knight Order.
Relying on the defense line of the Holy Alliance, they consistently fought defensive battles, never fully utilizing the knight order’s greatest advantage.
It was only Ryman who remembered the most terrifying formation of the Northman Knight Order.
“Charge forward, all forces!”
The wolf riders tore through the formation, the light-armored soldiers divided the battlefield, and the heavy cavalry crushed everything in their path.
Without formation, charging all together!
Everyone’s speed reached its maximum limit. Even the heavy-armored cavalry, with Isabella’s Knight Aura’s blessing as the commander of the Knights, could move as fast as ordinary light cavalry.
This was thunder unstoppable, forged by eight hundred steel and Elite Level Knights together.
Making the Demon Army flee in defeat?
They were just restricted by the battlefield, that was all.
Isabella firmly believed that when her Northman Knight Order truly showcased its strength, the entire continent and abyss, all races and powers, would be shocked.
However, she was not interested in those empty titles.
Since birth, she had been interested in only one thing.
That was crushing the remnants of the demon race on the battlefield, letting them roll back to their abyssal home.
“I will continue my father’s legacy and bring honor to the Schwarzwald family on the battlefield!
I will not let any darkness cloud the bright red family crest where the knight’s sword and lance cross!”
She believed that today was the day for those demons to face reality.
The Ryman Empire and the Schwarzwald family were stronger than the Abyssal Demon!
The light in Isabella’s eyes grew brighter little by little.
Three thousand meters, two thousand meters, one thousand meters, eight hundred meters…
Five hundred meters!
The mine tunnel gradually widened, and at the end of the long uphill path, Isabella could almost smell the restless energy of the demon race abyss.
It’s time to charge!
Isabella thought about it and pulled out the knight’s long sword hanging from her waist.
Unlike the usual cold gray color of metal, the style of this knight’s long sword was simple, but the blade was a strange crimson color—not metallic in texture but more like a clear crystal.
“Northman Knight-!”
Isabella’s voice was loud but calm, with a steady tone, not strained.
But her determined voice was like the best encouragement, inspiring all the knights behind her.
“Here!”
Eight hundred knights behind her answered in unison, their voices echoing loudly in the long-abandoned mine tunnel, almost as if it would collapse.
Isabella raised the crimson-shining long sword in her hand and continued shouting.
“Raise the wolf rider banner!”
She shouted like this and used her other hand to pat her chest.
The simple mechanical device on her light armor triggered, and a flag with the Schwarzwald family crest waving on it rose behind her.
On the black background of the flag was a pattern of crimson knight swords and long spears crossing—a pattern that once made three countries, two races, and countless legions extremely fearful.
At this moment, the three hundred wolf riders behind her also raised flags with a black base and red stripes like this.
“All troops – charge!”
Knight Aura activated. As a legendary level knight, the Knight Aura she comprehended was the simplest and most effective.
“Knight Aura – speed!”
The ability to increase the speed of charging and marching to the limit manifested at this moment, covering the distance of several hundred meters almost instantly.
Next, she would charge with determination until she saw the first demon race!
The White Frost Direwolf took a few steps to the cave entrance, then leaped high up as it exited from inside Dragonspine Mountain.
“Phew—”
A strong wind blew from which flags and wolf hairs fluttered. Isabella gazed towards the horizon. Even though it was late at night, the sky in the west was lit up with continuous fires and bright lights.
Looking down, Isabella saw the shocked Balrog Lord, the arrogant Red Dragon Grand Monarch, and hundreds of Balrogs and demon dragons waiting below.
Wait…
“Where did the Balrogs and demon dragons come from?”
Isabella’s eyes widened, then locked gazes with the Red Dragon.
“Shelldor?”
“Isabella!”
The two of them called out each other’s names at the same time.
Afterwards, Isabella realized something was wrong.
“There’s an ambush, retreat quickly!”
