Chapter 183: Strange Creatures
As Lolth endured nausea and discomfort from the green liquid surrounding her, she felt the slimy tentacles tightening around her limbs, leaving her in a state of hopelessness.
After a few more minutes, she found herself deep in the water, where not a flicker of light could be seen, and she could only use Magic Perception to understand her surroundings.
And here, Lolth finally “saw” the full form of the tentacle monster.
It is not a huge octopus or squid-like something from my imagination, nor is it a creature stitched together like a low-budget horror movie with a shark’s head and a turtle shell.
This tentacle monster is simply a mass of tentacles, just as its name suggests, very plain and unadorned.
Countless dark green tentacles of various thicknesses are tangled together in a ball shape, like the red worms used to feed ornamental fish, with probably hundreds of them, some as thick as a water surface, about a dozen or so.
There are no extra organs, only tentacles, all kinds of tentacles, transformed into different shapes.
Some are thick, slimy, and covered in numerous suckers, likely for attack or defense; others are simply hard and slippery, seemingly functioning as “bones” and “lubrication”; while some are small and concealed, probably for stealth attacks; the most numerous are the ones floating on the outside, with suckers that appear to sense their surroundings, acting as “eyes and ears.”
So Lolth discovered that the core of this creature is quite easy to find.
With a little magical probing, she found that all the tentacles grow from a fleshy mass at the very center of the tentacle ball, wrapped and protected by layers upon layers of tentacles.
The Power of the Evil God in that fleshy mass is even ten times stronger than that contained in the surrounding waters; it might as well have been created by the evil god himself.
“This is the thing!”
Lolth shrugged and then released a hint of Ultimate Power.
The tentacles seemed to meet a higher force. After encountering the Ultimate Power, they loosened their grip on Lolth and even retreated.
Underwater, Lolth wrapped herself in Ultimate Power and moved towards the ball of tentacles.
Even though it felt more disgusting around this thing—both in shape and magical waves—Lolth still had to pinch her nose and get closer.
Just as she expected, Ultimate Power was indeed the superior version of the Power of the Evil God.
Even if strong light energy came here, these tentacles would probably rush to battle against the source of that light energy.
This Ultimate Power not only originated from the same source as the Power of the Evil God, but it was also a more advanced version of the same type of power.
Although it seemed to be only half a rank higher, it was still very effective.
She slowly approached the ball of tentacles, which seemed to open up layer by layer, as if welcoming their master home.
In Lolth’s original plan, she should have slowly approached the core and, in the end, dealt a blow to it when Patricia acted, sending the monster away.
However, as she got closer to the core of the tentacle ball, the concentration of the Power of the Evil God in the environment got higher and higher, even possibly matching that of a Sacred Tool’s internal magical power, and Lolth sensed something unusual.
A thread formed by the continuous Power of the Evil God did not avoid the Ultimate Power or get swallowed by it. Instead, it strangely moved around the Ultimate Power and drifted toward her.
That strange Power of the Evil God did not seem to be coming over “voluntarily”; it felt like it was being forcefully pulled by something!
This unknown, strange Power of the Evil God forcefully passed through the barrier created by the Ultimate Power and drifted down toward Lolth’s body.
“What’s happening?”
Lolth, feeling disoriented by the events unfolding, finally pinpointed the source when the Power of the Evil God circled around and entered her pants.
A small gray stone statue shaped like a whale, the size of a hand, in her left pocket was actually absorbing this Power of the Evil God!
Its powerful suction even completely ignored the rank suppression of the Ultimate Power against this Power of the Evil God!
This faint Power of the Evil God activated the whale statue, which even Lolth could not tell was unusual, revealing extremely weak extraordinary waves.
Lolth had previously examined this object and did not sense anything strange, thinking it was just a “trademark” from Kanor’s alchemical tools.
After all, many alchemy and forging masters have some odd habits; it is not particularly strange or hard to understand that an ancient civilization’s alchemy master would like to include a whale statue in their creations.
But she never expected that this thing could actually absorb the Power of the Evil God.
And…
“Is this thing alive?”
Feeling a trace of life hidden beneath the extraordinary power, Lolth took out the whale statue and exclaimed in surprise underwater.
Originally thinking it was simply a well-hidden alchemical tool… she was shocked to discover it was actually a living creature!
Moreover, the ability to directly absorb the power of the Evil God likely indicated that it was a formidable entity from a bygone era. Lolth, however, couldn’t recall any creature that matched the whale’s traits of both “absorbing the power of the Evil God” and “appearing as a stone statue while asleep.”
What made Lolth even more curious was why this thing suddenly woke up today.
Could it be that it is like the Power of the Evil God?
But that doesn’t make sense; the Ultimate Power before and now, why is it still ignoring it?
It doesn’t make sense to be picky about such tiny differences either.
It can’t be that there is a creature that only absorbs this Power of the Evil God— that would be too ridiculous!
Even if it were made on purpose, it couldn’t be created.
Besides, the chance that this evil god is connected to the owner of that alchemical device is very, very small.
The appearance of this whale temporarily interrupted Lolth’s plan.
She was only a few steps away from the core area, but she paused for a moment to admire the little whale statue in her hand that was greedily absorbing the Power of the Evil God.
Naturally, the tentacles did not attack Lolth, who was still enveloped by the Ultimate Power. Even if she remained motionless, she was not in any immediate danger.
However, time was indeed passing by, second by second.
Above the waters, inside the magic crystal boat, Tina, who was barely holding on, finally heard Patricia’s chant come to an end.
With the final strange syllable uttered, Patricia held the Green Sky Star Heaven aloft and, after three minutes of chanting, cried out the name of the forbidden spell.
“Take this, Insaesya Fear Ray!”
A bright light, as thick as a water barrel and filled with wild magical energy, crashed into the waters!
