Chapter 172: God of Demise Should Be His Big Brother
Inside the half-plane, Lolth knelt on the ground, meticulously using magic to examine Tina’s body.
After briefly healing her external wounds with the God of Light spell, Tina’s condition stabilized temporarily. Though very weak, her situation remained stable.
Indeed, the power of Holy Light had some effect on this matter—yet not enough to fully heal Tina. If it had been, there wouldn’t have been so many bones of Land of Light creatures scattered along their path.
“The magic in this fractured place is truly extraordinary…”
After a thorough examination, Lolth couldn’t suppress a sigh.
Tina’s body had been severely corroded by the half-plane’s unique magic.
Compared to the magical corrosion that occurs with high concentrations of elemental magic from alternate planes like fire or water, this situation proved far more challenging.
For “corrosion” appeared to be an inherent characteristic of this magic itself.
Earlier, when Lolth had used this half-plane’s magic to trigger the Plane Magic Tide and open the half-plane channel, she had noticed that this magic’s nature bore similarities to the “Ultimate Power” she had encountered while fighting Chyzh Winchester.
This suggested it was likely a form of divine power, belonging to an evil god connected to “The Final Church”—similar to how the goddess of nature and the goddess of earth, despite their churches’ conflicts, were truly sisters.
So… this was probably its Divine Kingdom.
Upon realizing this, Lolth began to understand why her earlier space magic, though lethal to the monsters, hadn’t achieved its expected potency; even the God of Light spell’s effectiveness had been reduced by half.
The diminishment of space magic’s power wasn’t due to the half-plane’s unusual structure.
Rather, it stemmed from this being a former Divine Kingdom of an evil god.
Within a Divine Kingdom, aside from its indigenous divine power and those chosen by the gods, most powers become weakened—this was fundamental to the rules of the planes, as no Divine Kingdom existed without such principles.
Thus, a Divine Kingdom differed from other half-planes or alternate planes, where certain powers merely grew stronger without weakening others.
Even in the fire element plane, while fire magic was enhanced, a water mage’s spells remained unchanged… at most experiencing slightly increased consumption due to water element scarcity.
Though this half-plane’s god had long vanished compared to the so-called “God of Demise,” the faint divine traces and the humans and creatures bearing clear Church of Light characteristics virtually confirmed activity here. Yet certain inherent Divine Kingdom properties, though greatly diminished, persisted.
For instance, other powers would be weakened.
This explained why Tina, an epic elf priest, had nearly perished against mere Elite Level monsters.
It wasn’t solely due to the local power’s influence, but because in a Divine Kingdom, divine spells of other origins suffered the greatest weakening.
Like eating pancakes in Kentucky might be acceptable, but brandishing crispy chicken and a double giant burger while demanding McNuggets and a McFlurry would surely sour the manager’s expression.
Similarly, this explained Tina’s severe magical affliction.
Though she had survived the monsters, her condition remained critical.
While her mind stayed clear and her Holy Light-wrapped soul no longer suffered, she was now magically depleted and spiritually exhausted, too weak to speak, only able to regard Lolth with grateful eyes.
The divine power here differed significantly from “Ultimate Power.”
Ultimate Power maintained stability after “corruption,” but this divine power did not.
Its erosion proved even more threatening—not only unstable but possessing a strong “alienating” effect on vitality.
The most obvious consequence was its tendency to strip affected life forms of self-awareness, causing dramatic physical mutations that transformed them into those strange, highly aggressive monsters Lolth had previously bisected.
“It’s essentially the Otherworld’s version of the T-virus… Resident Evil, right? Though the aesthetic seems more Bloodborne…”
Lolth muttered, having pieced together the situation.
Regardless of artistic style, it was time to begin healing.
She couldn’t allow Tina to become one of those monsters.
Certainly, if she teleported Tina out and immediately applied the complete God of Light spell, the elf would likely just become severely ill, perhaps gaining an extra limb or losing one as a side effect. An epic elf priest possessed greater resilience than that.
Yet Lolth felt compelled to heal her promptly.
She had experience treating symptoms caused by such evil divine power.
However, given its complete difference from “Ultimate Power” save for its “corrosive” nature, Lolth suspected her special Arcane healing magic would prove ineffective.
Then a peculiar thought struck her.
Since Holy Light’s power had limited effect on this strange divine power, what about Ultimate Power?
On an impulse, Lolth released a portion of Ultimate Power.
Though she knew no Final Church spells, her battle with Chyzh Winchester had taught her to harness and replicate this power.
Upon releasing Ultimate Power, Lolth sensed no resistance from this realm.
In fact, since divine spells typically originated from other realms, she could even detect the Divine Kingdom of the God of Demise that generated Ultimate Power…
Not “distant” from here.
The dimensional waves and coordinates of these two realms lay remarkably close.
As Ultimate Power manifested, the half-plane’s divine energy became exceptionally reactive around it.
And when she brought Ultimate Power near Tina…
Without any enhancing spell, the Ultimate Power first consumed the special divine energy corrupting Tina’s body, and under Lolth’s guidance, formed a stable black crystal in the air!
“Your priority exceeds mine…”
Lolth observed the Ultimate Power in her hand and drew two conclusions.
First, these evil gods shared a closer connection than she’d imagined; what she’d assumed might be distant kinship now appeared more likely brotherhood.
Second, the God of Demise must be the elder brother.
