Chapter 17: I Think There Is Something Strange About That Mine
Two more days passed.
Lolth taught Tina how to manage and organize the farm and pastures inside the prison tower. With the help of a new member, Lolth’s lazy life has become much more fulfilling.
Despite Tina still believing that Lolth desires her body, and worrying daily about her soul’s corruption, she is starting to adapt to the daily hard work routine after three days here.
The small prison tower has a unique sense of leisure different from the tense situation across the continent.
But outside this prison tower, especially on the western front of the battlefield, tensions had reached a breaking point.
Five kilometers outside the Anti-demon Great Wall—where both Death Knights and Paladins could cover most of the distance in a single charge—the Demon Army’s temporary camp had been established.
Hellrock formed a low wall, strengthened with layers of bloodthorn vines for defense and counterattacks; within the camp, eerie green abyssal flames burned day and night, illuminating tents made of giant magical beast skins and bones. Demons and demon dragons circled in the sky, glaring towards the Anti-demon Great Wall.
One day ago, to stop the construction of this camp, the Holy Alliance took the initiative to send out several small forces for harassment, leading to a few minor battles.
However, it quickly ended with losses on both sides, but ultimately, the Demon Army managed to gain the upper hand in setting up the camp.
In the largest tent of the temporary camp, Shelldor, sitting in the main seat, was earnestly studying a map drawn by Lolth and the information on it with her deputy and subordinates.
Using bones of the same kind for the tent was a tradition of the Second Legion and a custom of the Abyssal Dragon clan.
“Hmm… These circled areas should be the Allied camp behind the Anti-demon Great Wall, right?”
“The numbers marked next to these three fortresses indicate their garrison forces! The smaller numbers may represent high-end combat forces!”
“No wonder the Demon King values this intelligence so much. I didn’t expect the details to be so thorough!”
After about half an hour of study, Shelldor finally spoke confidently.
She was reading slowly because she did not know the common language of the mainland.
Before, the Demon Army didn’t habitually use intelligence—the information provided by a group of blind-eye lizard demon scouts, at most, just marked which direction had many enemies, which place had a few enemies, and whether they were far or near.
It looked like a recipe written by a Chinese chef: “Salt, a suitable amount, stir-fry until evenly colored.”
Most of the generals below, although many of them knew the common language, dared not mock Shelldor at a time like this.
Even if they knew the common language, encountering such complex intelligence for the first time felt very strange and puzzling to them.
Even the doubtful ones wouldn’t argue with Shelldor directly here.
So, upon hearing the Red Dragon Grand Monarch speak this way, everyone agreed with her.
“It seems like that!”
“After receiving guidance from Lord Shelldor, everything suddenly becomes clear to me!”
“Truly worthy of Lord Shelldor!”
“Demon King, Lord Shelldor, and Interrogator are so strong!”
“If we keep going like this, we will win!”
“When should we launch the final attack, Lord Shelldor?”
Listening to the chattering officers, Shelldor raised her hand and gestured for silence.
She looked up at the setting sun in the sky outside, noticing the watchtowers on the Anti-demon Great Wall were already lit up. The humans and elves were patrolling on the high walls—ever since she was stationed here, the patrols outside the wall had been canceled.
“Hmm… Considering the speed of reinforcements, fast support may arrive tomorrow morning,” Shelldor pondered. “If we start the battle now, reinforcements would have to rush to the battlefield without time to rest. How prepared are the various legions?”
“The Third Legion is ready!”
A Death Knight wearing a mask stood up and spoke.
“The Seventh Legion was ready yesterday!”
A graceful Balrog stood up, flames rising all over its body!
“The Ninth Legion can depart at any time!”
“Yes, we can always leave at any time!”
The tall two-headed troll also shouted back fiercely.
“Alright, let’s gather our troops separately—blow the horn in half an hour to launch the attack,” Shelldor nodded. “As planned, the Third Legion will lead the assault on White Moon Fortress, the Ninth Legion will delay Molten Iron Fortress and Central Fortress, and the Second and Seventh Legions will each send two-thirds of their forces under the command of the deputy to take down all the outposts and camps of the Anti-demon Great Wall!”
When the Death Knight and the two-headed troll heard Shelldor’s assignments, they showed no signs of doubt.
Only the blazing female Balrog was dissatisfied.
“Shera! Why should my legion be led by the deputy—and you, aren’t you going to the front lines?”
She asked angrily, the fiery red flames on her body seeming to rise a few degrees.
“Achilles,” Shelldor also stood up and tapped the map in her hand. “According to the numbers, we have enough legendary fighters on the front line. I believe in your strength, so I think you and I should go to the back of Dragonspine Mountain… to guard it.”
“Guarding the rear? That’s not like you!”
Balrog Achilles asked, puzzled.
“No, not just guarding the rear. I think there might be a battle erupting there too,” Shelldor explained seriously. “On Dragonspine Mountain, there’s a ‘red cross’ mark pointed out by Miss Interrogator. I’m not sure what it means—but I think it’s suspicious. I checked it out on my way here, and it’s a deep abandoned mine.”
“What’s so suspicious about it? Are you relying too much on intelligence?” Achilles looked displeased, her half-covered fiery face frowning. “You don’t understand the western front—that mine has been there for a long time, with no anomalies or magical fluctuations! Are you really going to send nearly a legion of troops and two legendary-level fighters just because of the ‘intelligence’ provided by Interrogator?”
“Achilles!”
Shelldor looked at her, her amber vertical pupils filled with stern authority.
“Using this information well is advice from the Demon King—and, you don’t know Interrogator Lolth. I’m willing to trust her.”
“If nothing happens at that mine, I’ll apologize to you. But for now, stationing at Dragonspine Mountain’s abandoned mine is my command!”
