Chapter 166: The Chase on Vera Plain
Although the Church of Light did not hold back the demon race, Patricia and Dorothy thought it was normal.
They felt that the plan set by the Church of Light was too “smooth.”
If the demon race was so weak… how could they break through the Western Front?
Of course, this was also because the Lady of Light had not told the two about her use of the “Supreme Divine Spell.”
If she had shared this, the value of the “Supreme Divine Spell,” at least to Patricia, the knowledgeable Great Sage, would have been clear, and she would have realized that the patrolling demon race was not just a simple matter of the Church of Light being unreliable.
After all, the relationship between Cloud City, the Church of Light, and the Golden Peacock was not so close; it was just that the half-plane hidden in Hillenbrand Town needed to be opened by the Golden Peacock and a Sage-level mage.
Also, because of this imbalance of information, Dorothy and Patricia overlooked something…
That is, all these patrolling demon races were coming for them!
Even Patricia thought that these demon dragons were just on a routine patrol.
So, after a simple rest and meal, they did not stay in the cave all night but continued their journey under the cover of darkness.
After all, Dorothy and Patricia had no way of knowing how long the Church of Light’s Oracle Knight Order could hold off the demon race’s regular army.
So, the two reached an agreement—they had to get to Hillenbrand Town as quickly as possible.
“But traveling fast without using magic is difficult for me as a mage.”
Looking at the demon dragon still circling in the sky, Patricia showed a troubled expression and glanced at Dorothy.
After leaving the cave of the earth bear, Dorothy noticed that the Great Sage from the Cloud City Wizard Association was strangely not doing anything.
However, the other’s reasoning was solid—”If I make a move, the demon race will definitely notice”—leaving Dorothy with no argument to stand on.
“Then I’ll think of a solution…”
Dorothy sighed, and her eyes turned a deep black.
This state lasted for about five or six minutes before her eye color returned to normal.
“I found them.”
She said this just as a pack of medium-sized, wolf-like magical beasts charged from the distant plains toward Dorothy and Patricia, all at around Elite Level.
Finally, in front of the two, a pack of about twenty wolves stopped, and the leading wolf came to Dorothy, lying down to show submission.
Dorothy patted its head and turned to look at Patricia.
“We can ride the wolves; it will be faster than walking, and the magical beasts’ scent will cover our presence.”
As Dorothy said this, Patricia’s eyes sparkled slightly.
“Oh—what a brilliant idea! I like you more and more, little girl!”
Patricia said this as she rolled up the sleeves of her mage robe, found the biggest wolf magical beast, and climbed up its neck.
“This is what it’s like to be a wolf knight… I almost feel like I’ve joined the Northman Knight Order—though, it doesn’t seem very lucky, considering their leader is still trapped by the demon race.”
Patricia spoke in a relaxed tone.
“It seems the place where she is held is also Hillenbrand Town,” Dorothy chimed in, “Maybe… we can use this to our advantage.”
“Well, it depends on the situation. After all, who knows what that little girl is like now? She might have completely turned into a servant of the demon race,” Dorothy said with an innocent smile. “Maybe we’ll be captured by the demon race and forced to become their servants—at that point, I’d have no choice but to betray my friends in the Wizard Association… oh dear, that sounds so terrifying.”
She spoke as if joking.
But Dorothy couldn’t smile; she didn’t even want to respond.
No matter how gifted one is, a Superlative Level is still a Superlative Level… She couldn’t be as calm about such matters as Patricia was.
Isabella is a legend-level Grand Knight; Dorothy was well aware of this.
Even she was captured, so of course, it was very dangerous for me this time… Before entering that unknown half-plane, it was already like this.
“Let’s go.”
Dorothy struggled a bit as she climbed onto the back of the wolf magical beast lying on the ground. She patted it, and the beast stood up, leading the pack toward Hillenbrand Town.
Patricia noticed Dorothy’s nerves and pouted, deciding not to say anything more.
Along the way, they saw more and more demon race patrols in the distance, but Dorothy managed to steer clear of them in advance.
However, the number of patrols made both of them feel a bit uneasy.
“Are these demon race usually this careful?”
“Today, The Church of Light is not just barely holding on; it’s completely overwhelmed…”
As their numbers grew, even though it was rare for just two people—Dorothy and Patricia—to be spotted, the demon race’s frequent patrols and large numbers made it increasingly likely they’d be discovered.
Soon, deep in the heart of Vera Plain, a group of trolls noticed a pack of rushing wolf magical beasts.
“Look at that big pile of monsters!”
“Fool, it’s not the right time to feast; we’re on patrol!”
“But those monsters are not hunting or fleeing. Why are they going forward so fast?”
“Who knows… the monsters in the main plane are very strange!”
“I think I should take a closer look…”
“Are you just greedy?”
“Wait… something’s not right. It looks like there are people on the backs of those monsters!”
“What?”
Soon, the troll who was good at hunting magical beasts noticed something unusual about these monsters and ran closer, raising his axe and club.
When Dorothy saw this scene, she realized that she had finally been exposed and continued to urge the monsters to go faster.
“Run faster!”
This action undoubtedly made the simple-minded trolls even more certain that this group of monsters was indeed suspicious!
“Send a signal! Inform the other armies and teams—an anomaly has been discovered!”
“Two humans… they are likely the ones Lord Lolth is looking for!”
The trolls’ deafening roars shattered the calm of Vera Plain, and a massive magical signal flare erupted, causing the demon dragon circling in the sky to veer off course.
“Go check over there!”
“Darn… at this rate, we’ll be discovered.”
Dorothy looked anxious.
The speed of these magical beasts is still too slow.
Just as she felt a bit helpless, Patricia stood up on the wolf’s back and gracefully leaped onto the magical creature she was riding.
“Ah, it’s okay—I’m here, remember?”
Patricia patted her shoulder and said.
