Chapter 16: Demon Army Is Heading for Self-Destruction!
The head chef, Lolth, who had been busy peeling eggplants, smashing cucumbers, and cutting pumpkins, had no idea that Tina’s scream had suddenly thrust her, a figure who had always kept a low profile in the Demon Army, into the center of everyone’s attention.
“When the Demon King suddenly promoted a succubus to head the Interrogation and Detention Department, I knew she was extraordinary!”
“That’s right, to torture an elf like that, she is indeed remarkable!”
“Have you heard? Today, Lord Shelldor returned from the front lines with the Second Legion and praised the interrogator’s handling of things!”
“Could it be related to Lolth’s transfer?”
“Of course! I heard the Second Legion is heading to support the western front, and the Elf Princess is a key figure in the resistance alliance there!”
“Did she extract information in just one day?”
“Has the succubus influenced the entire war effort?!”
“No wonder the Demon King has been allocating so much funding to the Interrogation Department in recent years!”
Rumors began circulating throughout the Demon Army, especially with the news of the “Flame Sovereign” Shelldor’s return. Many had never seen the interrogator, Lolth, before and now regarded her with a “mysterious and frightening” air.
However, some straightforward individuals remained skeptical.
“She’s just a succubus after all!”
“Intelligence? Does it even matter?”
“Spending so much of the budget with no results for years!”
Regardless, Lolth’s previously peripheral department was now the talk of the Demon Army.
But because of her enigmatic nature, Lolth had almost no friends within the army, and no one thought to visit her.
The demon race is usually curious, but they don’t pry too much.
As the screams faded and Lolth finished preparing lunch, the discussions died down, leaving only a lingering curiosity among many officers.
Lolth brought a picnic basket and blanket to the rooftop pasture.
“I’m back!”
She spread the blanket on the ground and laid out the food—flavored eggplants, garlic cucumbers, fried eggplant cubes, cucumber with scrambled eggs, and pumpkin congee—arranging them neatly. She then brought out two sets of utensils.
After setting everything up, Lolth looked up at Tina, who had been nervously watching her and patted the blanket.
“Why are you standing there? Sit down and eat; it won’t taste as good when it gets cold!”
Lolth motioned for Tina to sit down, but Tina still seemed hesitant.
“What about those plants from before?”
“Ah? Oh!”
Lolth blinked, realizing Tina was referring to the cucumbers, eggplants, and pumpkins in the basket.
She pointed to the dishes on the plate and bowl, “They’re all here!”
Tina paused, realizing that Lolth’s idea of “hospitality” was different from her expectations.
However, Tina could not admit that she had misunderstood.
A new cycle of thoughts began.
“It must be deliberate by this succubus!” — “I am under soul control!” — “She must appreciate my reaction now!”
After going through these thoughts, Tina blushed again, giving Lolth a resentful look.
She picked up the tableware that Lolth had set before her…
Two sticks.
In a magical world with a fantasy background.
In this world, they do not use chopsticks.
Even if they did, chopsticks would not be the traditional utensils of the Elves… After all, this is not the world of “Lord of the Mysteries.” (Translator: I remember that in Lord of the Mysteries, elves used chopsticks. Don’t remember which chapter mentioned it but it should be a very early chapter.)
If it weren’t for Lolth already holding two chopsticks and picking up a piece of eggplant, Tina would have probably imagined a 300-word inappropriate use for these two small sticks.
However, seeing how Lolth used them, Tina, feeling puzzled, followed suit and tried to use the chopsticks to pick up food.
Like all beginners using chopsticks for the first time, Tina found them very difficult to control.
“*Click.*”
She picked up a piece of cucumber, but it quickly fell back onto the plate. Lolth noticed this and couldn’t help but gasp.
“I almost forgot, you can’t use chopsticks… Let me get you a fork!”
She said this and changed a fork for Tina.
“Even in something as small as using utensils for dining, do you not forget to embarrass my incompetence… ”
Tina took the fork handed to her by Lolth, feeling even more dejected.
However, when she took the first bite of the flavorful eggplant…
All negative emotions were once again thrown aside.
“Mmm… delicious!”
Afterward, she tried some cucumber with garlic sauce.
The strong taste overwhelmed Tina’s taste buds, making her almost cry as if she had never tasted garlic before.
But this feeling… seems not bad after all!
“Are you trying to make me cry and have a runny nose… No, you probably want to see how I can’t help but enjoy it even when I lose control!”
Thinking this, Tina continued savoring the incredibly fresh, even somewhat exotic cuisine. She felt like her soul was sinking deeper. But this was a blatant scheme! She couldn’t resist at all!
While thinking this, Lolth’s voice sounded.
“These new types of vegetables, the green one is called a cucumber, the purple one is an eggplant, and the largest one is a pumpkin… There are many more similar vegetables, and I intend to entrust their cultivation to you – some are edible right away, you can pick and taste them when they ripen.”
Lolth said so, while still enjoying her food, Tina nodded.
No way, she was being “controlled”!
Even as the Elf Princess, she couldn’t refuse to do servant-like tasks such as cleaning and planting!
It’s not because these vegetables are delicious!
While Lolth and Tina were having a leisurely picnic, outside the prison tower Interrogation Department, whether it was the Demon King Castle or the Holy Alliance, the atmosphere was not so relaxed.
At the Demon King Castle, after a night’s rest, Shelldor gathered her Second Legion and marched toward the western front. The demon dragons of the Second Legion flew in the sky, showing their massive, terrifying forms. The western outpost of the Holy Alliance detected this and sounded the piercing call for help from the Anti-Demon Great Wall.
“Demon Army attack!”
“Abyssal Demon assembly!”
“Another wave of war is approaching!”
Different races and powers in the alliance all realize that a great war is coming.
On the central battlefield, General Isabella of the Ryman Empire, who had faced Shelldor countless times, remained calm as she looked at the reports coming from the front in the fortress.
“The western front… Shelldor, you are truly walking into a trap!”
Her gaze fell on the map spread out on her table.
On the map, next to the central fortress, there was a red line running through the entire Dragonspine Mountain!
It was a secret passage that not many people knew about!
In Isabella’s view, the Demon Army would never expect that the Holy Alliance still controlled such a secret passageway.
If the elite army of the central front suddenly attacked from the rear when the western front started the battle…
Thinking about that scenario, even Isabella, known as “Ryman Ice” for her cold and beautiful demeanor, couldn’t help but show a faint smile.
